Coming forward to the media straight after the match and doing the right thing - resigning. In my eyes, he has made some positive substitutes this Euros (Wales game being an example). As well as that, he's made far more mistakes. We did see positive sparks of football by England and I do not want that to be overshadowed by our dismal overall performances. We have to stay united and have belief going forward.

what annoys me is the lack of dedication roy had. he said he 'would not fight for an extension' of his England contract (quote BBC sport). Thats not the message you give your players during a big tournament, that shows the lack of ambition you have as a manager. As with the players, the next manager needs to voice that each and every one of his players is playing for pride and passion. Each of his players needs to earn the right to wear that shirt. I saw no desire to want to win, or the want prove that the person putting on the england shirt deserved to be there. It was a shambolic campaign at euro 2016, no passion or pride was there.

Good Riddance, tactically inept, lacks any sort of any Plan B when his teams are struggling. Would prefer either Tuchel or Ancelloti as coach but Southgate it is.

Simply put, England has to improve their defense. Otherwise it will always be the same old story. The opposition keeps having a field day with crosses and corners, and thru passes. The backs are too soft, slow and unathletic, and somehow seem smaller than they really are as they were unable to stop the offense from creating those successive goals out of thin air, practically. They were too loose in the beginning, overcnfident that that initial goal was enough to coast through to the quarters, and it cost them. Iceland showed superb defense and that is why they won (The English should make an instructional video showing how the Icelandic defenders shutdown their strikers, particularly Harry Kane and force (!) their backs and midfielders to master it) . Joe Hart was a disappointment. Buffon or Neuer wouldn't have made those two grievous mistakes that cost the Tri-Lions the match. Hart, or whoever takes over as goalkeep, should study how they protect the goal and master their styles. Those two early goals put too much pressure on the lads and threw them off their game. Kane had an excuse, being only 22 (although saying his free kicks were horrid is being kind), Rooney, who gave up interception upon interception in the second half, doesn't. He may have scored the first goal but it was a penalty kick, so he was expected to make that gimme, but the mess he created in the midfield after that is inexcusable! Rashford was the bright spot, as Sturridge and Vardy had been against Wales, but he illuminated the field for only 5 minutes. The frontline of this group is solid, except for Rooney. Developing better, swifter, tougher and more athletic GKs, Backs and Defensive midfielders should be the absolute priority for the next manager appointed while keeping that frontline intact going forward. Great offense will put you in the highlight reels, but great defense will win you titles internationally... and Rooney should retire from international competition...
