Lauren seems like a princess and Sarah seems like a fairy. I don't know if it makes any sense to another but it's how I feel watching them. Both gorgeous

I feel like Lauren's is more a regal/Queenly depiction of the Sugar Plum Fairy while Sarah Lamb's is more Youthful Fairy-like. They both portray Sugar Plum amazingly to their own though. It's suits them how they dance it.

They were both gorgeous! Lauren was such a classic, graceful sugar plum, while Sarah was quick and spritely! I love the artistry of both of them!

Both ballerinas are stunning and exquisite, it’s kind of like comparing oranges and apples. Side by side comparison shows that there is so much room for individual interpretation when dancing to the same choreography. Thank you for sharing this magical ballet moment!💕🩰💕🩰💕

Lauren is an English rose. I've always thought she had the most beautiful lines. I love to watch Sarah, but Lauren epitomises the English ballerina for me. She is very musical, feels the music and savours her steps deliberately which I notice all the time. She has a regal poise and elegance which I have always loved - every move she makes is about beauty - you can tell she thinks of it like that.

As beautiful as these videos are, I wonder if this split screen format hasn't inspired an excessively critical mindset in viewers: Should the purpose of videos like this be so we can pit one artist against another? Or should it be to appreciate their different interpretations and the nature of the role itself? Ballet is already an exacting art that can challenge dancers to push themselves to the extremes of their physical, mental, and emotional ability. As the audience, we can play a role in supporting and appreciating rather than deriding the artists who give us their incredible performances.

No one is deriding. Everyone is just enjoying the differences.

As a dancer, I personally agree with your statement. Sometimes friends will send me these videos and ask me who did it better and want to hear my opinion about it but the truth is that I want to give each dancer a high level of attention to each of the details they put the effort into adding to the dance and the comparison with split screen doesn't help at all. Superficially, the only thing it helps me with is seeing the difference in music interpretation so that I can mimic myself

Constructive criticism and feedback. They can see what people prefer to see. Accuracy to the music or more flowing free-form. Though these two had similar dance styles, each one was either ahead or behind que on several occasions throughout. It doesn't ruin the performance by any means, unless the viewer is a perfectionist for being on-que to music.
@NadoriKaija

@@gorzkawodka Exactly. They have tight standards to uphold, and this feedback can give them information on if they need to tweak lesson plans. Sometimes the teachers can slip over the generations too. This helps correct that before it gets bad.

It's so cool to me to see the differences in what these masterful dancers bring to the role. Even with the exact same choreography and counts, they bring a different flavor to the role. I love going to performances to see different dancers live and how their execution changes the vibe of a variation, but it's a really cool experience to see the side by side comparison as well. It highlights more of the technical points you don't see as much in a live presentation

WOW!!! They both have their own musicality while dancing, and it makes sense for each dance. They are both in time, they make all their steps beautiful, it is just a slightly difference in their personal style of dancing. You see them both making their own ersion which makes it magical seen side and side. FLAWLESS, EFFORTLESS, NO MISTAKES, and yet their own personality. I wish I could find the asian sugar plum fairy video again, it was my personal favorite version :( Just like this queens, they all dance beautiful.

only major thing that swung my opinion were the gargouillades. sarah’s are much less hasty and strained. but even then both are amazing, and gargouillades don’t even deserve to exist so i really don’t mind that part at all.

They are not dancing to the same music, you can't judge their musicality and if they were 'on the beat' by this.

Bear in mind that the music is dubbed. They are both actually dancing to different conductors conducting different performances of the music, so we can't really know who is more musical or more on the beat.

I think the way I would compare them is that I prefer Grigorovich's choreography (Balachine's is probably my favourite for the rest of the show but his Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy feels too fast) - it feels so much more ethereal than Wright's. I am, of course, a complete pleb and haven't danced since I was about five but this is my opinion 😊

Live orchestra
@annlidslot8212
@annlidslot8212 5 ай бұрын
Hi, So Caveat: I do freely admit that I have no knowledge about ballet. Are these danced to a live orchestra? To me it seems like they have a slight difference in timing, even though the landings ar mostly very much at the same time. The only reason for this that I can find is if there is a live orchestra and different conductors drive the orchestra differently. Unless it has to do with interpretation, of course, but that's beyond my understanding. From my (not so large, but much larger) opera experience even the same conductor drives the orchestra a little bit differently on different nights. A three hour opera can differ with as much as three to five minutes, if the driver has a flight home that night. With my non existent knowledge of ballet, my favorite is the dancer to our left. She shimmers a bit more, if that's something a dancer can do. I'm given to understand that this is a fairy not a queen. The dancer to our right is a queen to my eyes, for some reason. A little more gravitas and a tiny bit less sparkling, perhaps, and I like the sparkles. At least in this piece. Yours, Ann

The only thing I took away from this video other than that both dancers are beautiful artists. Gargouillades are dumb and stupid and we should abolish them from ballet. They are way to hard and don't look that pretty. It's the jump at 1:26 for the ones who don't know ballet terminology.
