Royal Enfield Himalayan rear suspension preload adjustment/ tail bone pain relief

Hey
Another one for DIY people. Re manual recommends taking it to a service center to do preload adjustments. Here is the simple hack of how to do this at home.
If you are having back pain issue the simple reason is that preload is not properly adjusted. Preload defines the movement space you are allowing for rear suspension spring. The freer the spring the more it has to travel and Visa versa. I am 5'10 and 80 kg dry ( without riding gear :D ).
There are plenty of videos on how to get proper preload sag adjustments done. But if you want it simple and are suffering from back/tail bone pain issue, it simply means the rear is not properly adjusted according to you weight.
I just move one notch up at a time to get the preload sag adjusted where my back feels comfortable.
So just sharing my experience of adjusting the sag.
Please note sag calculations are shared online aplenty, please do refer those. I will post the link if you guys require.
Cheers :)

Move it all the way to the top setting. You don't need to dissassemble anything. With a proper (big) screwdriver you can turn the adjuster perfectly.

Thought I would put it here for those having difficulty finding the right tool and adjusting on the go. With an ER-32 C type spanner wrench (usually used for power tools collet chuck nut), you can adjust the preload from the side-stand (left) side without removing the link assembly brackets/bars.

Hai i am 5.3 (163cm) 55kg and by adjusting the suspension will the bike sits low?
@leuheanrede
@leuheanrede 4 жыл бұрын
hey mate. I might feel a bit lower. It comes at 3 notch/groove from factory, if you bring it down to second notch, the rear suspension would feel a bit softer, and one you sit on it, it would go a bit down because of that. But over all it wont make much of a difference. But trust me, dont go below second notch as it would hamper the handling characteristic aswell by changing the rake and trail of the bike. And you would feel it if you ride with a pillion. At 800 mm the seat height is very accommodating, trust me. Take a test ride, as single and with a pillion and you would feel how comfortable it exactly is? Its the chassis and how the weight is managed that matters and RE(read Harris engineering) has done an excellent job at that :D Cheers :)

This setting was to get softer or harder?
@leuheanrede
@leuheanrede 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, This is for preload adjustment only, It will not make suspension hard or soft. Moving it up will take care of sag, you can think of it like free play, before suspension starts engaging. It will give the spring less space every time you move up a notch, thus it may appear that suspension is getting harder

@@abhishekdhibar9641 sure mate. I am not sure where it comes as stock on perak. But say for example is its at 3rd setting you need to move it to 2nd. But that's only given the fact that you are feeling it to be too stiff. Cos sometimes loose suspension can bounce about too much and that bouncing about may give a feeling of stiffness. Like was the case with himalayan becos of too little preload. And in himalayan doing the opposite helped like raising it to 5th.
