One of the main reasons I don't won't to be a games developer is this. Imagine working on a beloved series and being forced to ruin it with all the bad decisions from the higher ups, knowing that all the consequences will be on you when it eventually fails.

Matt McMuscles used to be part of one of the earliest (as far as I know) Let's Play channels on KZfaq, the Super Best Friends. Most members of the SBF have ties to the game industry because some of them used to be testers for video games before they started their channel. They split up a few years ago, with two of them primarily becoming Streamers on Twitch who upload their archived videos to KZfaq, but Matt instead chose to make various kinds of content, but primarily chooses to cover the development of games or movies that had rough development cycles. I downloaded the game for free on PS5, I didn’t make it past the first mission before I deleted the game. I really really wanted to get into it, as I got the platinum trophy for saints 3 and 4. But this one was just bad. I get I’m older, but going back to the older games, I still enjoy them as much as I did when they first came out.

DeadlySteph being a Deep Silver employee should also say a lot about how awful their marketing is.

Deep Silver yet again. I cant believe how poorly they managed this game, how greedy they were and their awful meddling with the plot. They didnt see what fans wanted, they just wanted something to throw at the market even if it didnt work with the IP's expectations. But what can you say when you completely ignore your fandom requests, and just make this reboot completely blind, underpowered, understaffed, send your media staff to mock weary fans, like damn how out of touch were they to have such high demands but not want to actually support it. Just wanted it on their desk by monday. They ran this series into the ground. As terrible as Volition's ideas were, Deep Silver's meddling held them to it. Just so much ego and arrogance to do this.

How bad must the other rewrites have been, if thats the turd of a story and characters they went with.

Yo I’ve said Time Machine in my videos and to hear they actually were going down that path makes me happy. It made so much sense in there wacky realistic universe and a perfect way to get grounded again off of one more wacky thing. It’s said the Zen have time travel we could of went back to the yacht or the plane or when zenyak attacked

"2nd in sales for a week" isn't really a flex when you're the only new game on the market and you're only beating games that came out 5 years ago

It would be very interesting to see how this game developed, from the earliest concept arts and info I found, they were settled on the hipster direction but what’s presented in the video suggests the complete opposite. But there’s no archeological remnant if it. Most of the pain could have been in the drafting stages. With that we could compare it to development during the first game that seemed to have a unorganised schedule.

More lessons to learn as more info comes out on what not to do developing a game. Especially a beloved franchise. A beloved franchise that left a bad taste to a lot of fans' mouths and cause a split a decade ago.

This is why none of the businessmen should be allowed at been involved with entertainment. Especially with video games. Because they have no idea, what video games are and what makes a great video game. They only care about the money and always stick their long pointy nose in to where they should not to. They should only deliver the money for the development and that's it. They should not go beyond that. But they do, and that is why we have so many games that failed and studios that has been shut down forever. Because, businessmen stick their nose in development, tell developers how to do things, as if those fat f-cks knows, how to develop a good video game, and at the end we ended up with this piece of crap. And then studios get shut down and their creations gets lost in time forever, or gets picked up by someone else, who thinks that they know what to do with it, when they are not. Thus why any businessmen should know their place, or otherwise we gonna get more losses in gaming industry than wins.

Damn did they take every misstep they could with this game.

I guess God of War remains my go to example for a reboot done right, not an absolute dumpster fire that Saints Row 2022 was.

I loved that they decided to bring things back down to earth (literally) and go with a more grounded feel. I also thought the map design and weapon modification was brilliant. But everything else sucked big time. I literally couldn't make it past the 15th story mission and had to uninstall the game. If anyone wants to ever go near Saints Row again in future, just give us A re-release of Saints Row 1 on PC + other platforms or just release Mod Tools for Saints Row 2 on PC. PLEASE. Other than that, perhaps its best to just let the series remain dormant.

Deep Silver is also the reason why I never played Payday 3, continued Dead Island & play the Metro series. because of there attitude and their involvement with the Saint's Row reboot

As a big saints row fan, i dont really blame volition for making a bad game on purpose. One thing i did like was the wingsuit. Also at 3:35 that looked kinda sick.

SR 2022 might be the worst game I've played in quit sometime. The only thing I liked what the character customizer. I also only laughed twice! The bit where the boss shoots that guy after getting voted out and the time the boss threatens that guy who gives them their phone to find their boss or something. I don't even recall the names of the gangs lol

It’s laughable to think the game cost $100M and had devs who were not simply looking for a check. That is pathetic. I think I could get a far better product with a tenth of the budget and far fewer devs, all of whom simply want a check.

I preordered this and have been playing since day 1. While i don't think it's the worst game i've played, it's by far the worst saints row game though. It had so much potential with being a reboot, but they somehow managed to make a game that was so empty and lifeless that i now give so much love and care to the games i once used to hate, SR3 and 4

How I would have made a Saints Row 2022 1. Make it a reboot but like Modern Warfare and Mortal Kombat 1 by keeping character from SR1 like Gat, Julius, Lin, Troy, and Dex as well as characters like Ben King, Hector, Victor, and the SR1 gang. The protagonist join the Saints and attack the Rollerz, Vice Kings, and Los Carnales. Rather than the game being similar to SR1, it is a reboot meaning that the story is changed. Lin doesn't die,, Gat is still badass, and Juils didn't backstab the player. 2. Stilwater is bigger but not as SR2 but have a countryside as well and a prison. 3. Mechanics like Checkpoints and some weapons like SR2 and 3 are available. 4. There are some missions choices and decisions. Story: Protagonist get attacks by the three gangs but was saved by Gat and Julius. Protagonist got canonized wnd joins the Saints. In each arc, he kills a major part of a gang. In the Rollerz, he kills William Sharp who was dealing with a gang in Europe. In the Los carnales arc, he killed Angelo in a shootout. In Vice Kings, he kills Tanya who backstabs Ben King. After taking over the city, Dex backstabs the protagonist by being a member for Ultor and Troy was an undercover cop. Dex "kills" the Protegagonist by shooting them in the head and Troy arrested the Saints. It is reveal that the Player was alive and he float in Europe. The sequel will be the cancel game or the original plan for Saints Row 3. First, I would do a prequel with King and Julius rising the Saints. That prequel will have Dex, Gat, and Lin in it. It will reveals more about Julius. Then in that sequel, Saints Row: World Domination. The protagonist wakes up in a prison in Europe owned by Ultor. That prison is underground. It is basically SR2 opening scene. Story: The Player have been in a coma for 10 years (original concept for 2) and they woke up being mess by a kid named Carlos who brother was in the Saints. They escape but the player realizes he is in Europe. The player learns that three gangs have ruled various cities: Morningstars ruled London, Ronin ruled Tokyo, and Son of Samedi ruled Jamaica. The player saves Gat from prison who was going to be executed in America. They recruited Shandui, Pierce, and Kinize who are tagged for each gang. In the Moringstars arches, the player suffers a loss when Carlos was killed by Dewinter Sisters in an assassin so the player got revenge which end up in a shootout, killing Phillp Loren. In the Ronin arc, Johnny Gat's girlfriend, Aisha, loses her eye but she survived which Johnny and the player finished off the Ronin by killing Akuji in a building explosion. In the Son of Samedi arc, help from Pierce and Shandaui, the player destroy the drug rings and kill Sunshine, later killing the General. After defeating all of the gang, Dex sends Ultor after the gang. The player with his new gang will save Lin. Troy was ordered by Dec to kill the player. It is reveal that Juils was the one that orchestra the event of the pllayer being backstab. Dane Vogel and Dex started an expansion on a city known as Steelport. Game features: Everything from SR1 and 2 and 3. An option to not to have to be required respect to do missions. Cities: 1. London 2. Tokyo 3. Jamacia 4. Stilwater The games 1. Saints Row: Retutn to the Row (first) 2. Saints Row: Origins (prequel) 3. Saints Row: World Domination (sequel) 4. Saints Row: Bloody Saint (sequel)

Eh, I don't know. I was very disappointed with Saints Row 3 and that was before Deep Silver bought Volition. I'm sure Deep Silver played a part but let's not act like Volition was completely innocent with the direction of Saints Row.

i thought the community manager was since SR3, failing to understand how much of a spoiler should leak showing professor genki, with the saints row ip i hope it goes to a group who actually cares and can come up with a clear vision, volition may have cared but it sounds like no one had a clear vision for the game needing several rewrites

Fixing the story doesn’t fix bad gameplay and dead open world and bad art direction. They made a 2011 and released it in 2022. Whoever were the directors of the game ruined the project it sounds like it was horribly mismanaged.

funny thing is the DLC for saints row 4 gat out of hell there is a ending basically where you can reboot the world where the saints never existed so technically the reboot is canon

how do you not know matt mcmuscles? have you never heard of super best friends play? you could make a version of this that works the problem is twofold maybe even three. 1. The new gang they made was the worst choice they could have made. the characters were insuferably 'quirky' and that dragged the game right down. 2. they didn't have faith in their setpieces. yes saints 3 and 4 had big setpieces but honestly I remember the ones from 2 more. the samurai fight on the yacht, the voo doo boss fight, escaping the caverns with maero. all of these were way more engaging and intimate than what you'd find in the latter games. the only ones I can remember personally being the first penthouse set to power and the one with the giant saints flow can shown in this video. oh and the bank heist from 3 I guess. note that the ones I listed from 3 are from the very beginning of the game and the one from 4 as mentioned before was In this very video. The third is their attitude in marketing. I still remember haters gonna hate. They drove their audience off. you reap what you sow lol

Maybe it's best for the Saints Row IP to be put to rest. Hell with all the money Volition lost on thanks to the reboot I doubt we'll even see the Saints Row Movie on the big screens. SR 2022 is just saints row for kids lmao. SR1 and SR2 was the true saints row

Some of this still pisses me off because, the first pitch would have kept the time travel bullshit cannon, and aliens in SR4 even though we didnt like it. And they wanted to do the same thing with SRTT, which is just make up a new story on a whim because they didnt want to alienate new players... which is why they never follow up on shit in the story. People can just go back and watch the older games to see what happened or they can show a summary like SR4 did during its missions, they dont need to reset the story every single game, and every time they do, they always half ass the story because of the mentality they kept from SRTT where they cared more about the scenario than the story and plot. They should have just rebooted off SR1 and retell that story or make slight changes like what MK1 is doing. It just sounds like they didnt learn from the criticism of SRTT and SR4.

I didn't see a problem with the games gameplay. The story is weak and the game gets really buggy in co-op. Those are my issues. Other than that it can be a genuinely fun game. That being said I also play on the hardest difficulty.

Some of the game is actually really fun.
