Please remember that when you think of all the games Volition made that were great (SR 1 & 2, Red faction, Punisher), remember that ZERO people that worked on any of those game were still working at Volition when they shat out the reboot. It was only a matter of time until they were shut down, I just wish that it happened sooner. Don't feel bad for the devs that were working at Volition, any that are worth their weight in salt are gonna get scooped up by other studios. Volition finally shutting down was a mercy killing, nothing more.

You forgot to mention that Volition was the same company that praised Anita Sarkeesian for her thoughts on Saints Row back in 2014.

The crazy thing is, they didn't need to make the game about friendship - it was already present in the original series with Gat and the Boss, they were ride or die to the very end. The original games knew how to show that, not tell us or shove it in our faces. RIP Volition.

I swear, EVERY TIME i see the "get the f* away from my friends" part of Saints Row trailer i have this insane urge of dislike the video immidiately. Only then i realize it's a RPG, Flippy or mrsaintgodzilla video and decide not to. That shit traumatized me. I might have PTSD.

Saints Row 2.5 would've done incredible numbers, hell Saints Row 1&2 double pack remastered would of outshine the saints row 3 remastered and SR4 re-elected.

It's a mix of the saudi deal breaking which made embracer fire a bunch of people from a bunch of companies, deep silver's handling of the game's tone, style and reaction to fans giving embracer mpre reason to target volition and the game's combat and gameplay further giving embracer reason to "restructure" also house hexagon also has a pretty good video on this giving more thought

I heard that Deep Silver wants another Saints Row game ASAP and Volition didn't want to make any Saints Row games, anyway, so I see why Agents of Mayhem and the "reboot" was a thing. And also, PLAION is the new developer for Saints Row now.

Why would I feel bad for Developers that make Trash deliberately if I was a developer at volition I would have complained if no one listened I would have left I wouldn't want to be known as a developer that worked on this game I couldn't imagine this being on my resume especially if I know what the fans needed and wanted this wasn't a happy accident this was a deliberate fuck you from volition and I'm glad we voted with our wallets

This was by far one of the best videos Ive seen discussing why Volition shut down. Most people in this situation tried to pin all the blame on one thing. This was the only video I've seen discussing multiple different possibilities. It was straightforward, and straight down the middle. Excellent job RPG. 😌👍

I can only imagine how depressing it was for the handful of devs who were at Volition from the beginning or around the 2000's up until closing. Its one thing seeing it from the outside, but to be there from founding to ruin is just tragic. Especially if you saw what was going to happen but were in no position to do anything to avoid this fate. All I can say now is that I wish the best of luck for those devs who were trying to give it their all under the most lose-lose circumstances.

The sad truth about game development today is if a developer is owned by another studio or company then it's usually the higher ups in that company that call the shots, that's why EA is so hated. Apex legends success is proof of this, EA was so preoccupied with ruining anthem that they completely ignored Respawn while they developed apex and it ended up being a hit, who knew that if you let a developer that had a track record of making good games before you bought them do their own thing, they'll probably make a good game.

I remember waking up and my friend DM'd me about the Reboot trailer already released I saw it, and at first I was a little bit optimistic, afterall at that time I have been waiting for a long time for a new Saints Row game But after seeing all the dumpster fire from Twitter and terrible story reveal, I just gave up trying to be optimistic about the game, I also gave up on Volition when I saw the gameplay and reviews I can only enjoy Saints Row 1 and Saints Row 2 while forgetting about the reboot and the rest, that's how I cope with this franchise lol

Those who are completely pushing the blame for the disaster that was the reboot onto Deep Silver should know that the ultimate blame still goes to the ones who created the game and not who funded them. If they felt that much forced to do something like the reboot, they could've easily went the kickstarter route like how Larian studios did during their struggling phase, i bet their fans would've funded the project within few hours. Its no excuse, they created an abomination willfully and that was seen in their overall attitude from their employees like Jim Boone. They were embarrassed about their past and wanted to create a game that would be prefered by modern audience without getting blamed for things that would trigger certain groups in US. This is a sad reality of how broken US has become over the years and its people. People take games too seriously and want to reflect themselves onto something that is fictional and made purely for entertainment but instead of that the focus becomes how misogynistic the game is, or how diverse it is, does it cater to feminist ideologies or does it encourage "male gaze" etc. It's a good thing the Volition got shut down because it gives a stark message to other companies. As for Deep Silver, if they thought a game like this would make lots of sales, they wouldn't have green lighted projects like Dead Island 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance, these games are absolute gems. The only games lagging behind in their catalogue was made by Volition, Agents of Mayhem, Saints Row reboot even gat out of hell. I am not denying their could be radical elements in both Deep Silver and Volition but if they truly wanted they would've took a different more feasible route. Embracer quickly got rid of them because (if anybody seen their recent investors call) Lars the CEO of embracer said the layoffs are done where company saw significant low ROI. Volition investment is way more than the returns it was generating for many years. This game was nail in the coffin. I just hope going forward game developers stop ruining their established IPs just in the name of "make the game relatable to modern standards".

Actually Neither Gearbox nor Deepsilver possess the IP anymore. According to Deepsilver themselves Volition's IP's are with Plaion who is Deepsilver's holding company. This is like a temporary placement by Embracer until they figure out what to do with it.

I told them it wasn’t good and all they did was retweet it. We wanted silver water back, the original saints. Not this, when you was able to go to heaven and ask for one wish, it should’ve been for silver water to go back to normal and then boom they could’ve put everyone back in silver water.

To be honest I don't really believe the whole they wanted to make a Saints Row game with gangsters and stuff but they couldn't. I don't believe that if they wanted to do something they could have found an excuse to do it. But they didn't because they don't care they haven't cared and they never will. There’s obviously multiple reasons for volition being shut down. 1. Made a expensive game that was hated by pretty much every. 2. Harassing and bullying the gaming community instead of listening to the player base and fans. They might not have been directly from volition but they didn’t stand up for the player base. 3. Bad deals 4. Bad leadership with no good judgement.

It sucks because IMO there aren't enough AAA sandbox crime games any more. In the PS4 and Xbox One gen the only major ones I recall that weren't remasters or remakes were the Saints Row Reboot and Mafia III. I enjoyed both even if I consider the Saints Row reboot one of the two worst games in the series (I haven't played the original in so long I honestly don't recall if I prefer it or the reboot) but there need to be more games of this type IMO not less. I suspect the failure of the Saints Row reboot could make other developers or publishers shy away from this type of game and we'll be left with Grand Theft Auto (Whenever Rockstar decides to make new ones) and Mafia. And the rumors I've heard about Mafia Iv's era and setting sound disappointing to me. As much as I like Saint Row though Red Faction was my favorite Volition franchise but I don't really see much they could do with its story after Armageddon besides a reboot.. Edit: Actually I just thought of something. There was a scifi book series I read part of many years ago where Earth's government invaded an independent colony and they retaliated by sending a number of operatives (I can't recall if they were sent during the invasion or were sleeper agents) to wreak havoc on the enemy facilities on Earth. Something like that could work for a Red Faction sequel.

It was caused by embracer group going around and buying studios along with a Saudi deal falling, and in order to cut costs and save themselves time they shutdown volition and are cutting staff from gearbox. It wasn’t about video game reception or anything else. Dumb theories aside, it was unfortunate business.

Their last 3-4 saints row games were ass as well as red faction hasn't been doing nothing for 10 years. Their biggest games dont make money anymore. No 10 min vid needed g. They have no money
