Having enjoyed lunch in a nearby café we board to our train for the return run to Tuzla. This part of our journey included a number of photographic opportunities where we were able to leave the train to film staged action shots of the locomotive with its train. The run by locations gave participants a chance to enjoy the sight of a steam train in action, surrounded by pleasant rolling countryside, carpeted in wild flowers, set to a chorus of wild birdsong. The Class 33 locomotive is a bit grimy, the tracks are overgrown and the waggons have seen better days, creating a scene reminiscent of the last days of steam on branch lines throughout Europe in the 60’s and 70’s.

Hello Tim! As always, a wonderful video of you. The steam locomotive 33, looks almost exactly like our class 52 of the ÖBB. A real workhorse for heavy freight trains. You can see that she already had to do something in her life. Still nice that she is still driving. Until next time Tim von Hans from the Millquarter in Upper Austria.👍🚂☺

Hi Johann, I'm glad you enjoyed the it. The locomotive is based on the Class 52, it was designated as Class 33 in the former Yugoslavian countries.

The organisers of the event did a fine job getting the train to perform for video!

These tours are often a one off, no two itineraries are the same. The train crews enjoy them as much as the participants. The Railway Touring Company do a great job putting these adventures together.

" locomotive is a bit grimy, the tracks are overgrown and the wagons have seen better days" is exactly how I like to experience all historical trains. Thank you Tim for another cool video!

Hello Hugh, I'm glad you enjoyed it. There is something special about a train looking like those on the UK network towards the end of steam.

Hello, dear Tim! Very well. But I did not understand the purpose of these strange locomotive maneuvers at 0:50 to 4:15 -- two-way train return? /And at 7:20+ and too; and at 18:30+ too, but one-way return./ Of course, I see freight cars attached to one passenger pullman... Hmm, really these maneuvers specifically for the tourists who shoot the train? Or were there films not only they made? /I saw in video this shaggy microphone of the TV journalists couple of times... :)))/ Very nice your shooting and shown beautiful landscapes on this land. Have nice day!

The participants of these tours only get to see the locomotive in action if they are able to leave the train. This is the reason the train reversed, then ran past the waiting participants so that they could take photographs of the the train in action. It can only be done on lightly used railways such as this one. The wagons were added to make the train look like a mixed passenger train from the 1960's. A local TV company filmed the train for a news item to be shown on Bosnian TV.

Great trip very much enjoyed. ? What is the side guards 7:53 on the front of engine for? To keep trees from hitting it. Also noticed some train action at 5:48 passing wood to engineer-Why? Thanks for sharing your trips with us. Safe travels ahead. Going to watch your playlist of Yougoslavia trains :) God bless

Hi, the large metal plates either side of the boiler at the front of the locomotive are smoke deflectors, they keep the view ahead clear of smoke to give the driver a good view ahead. The piece of wood had caught fire, so they put it in the firebox to burn with the coal. It's good that women like to strut their stuff, it shows they are confident with who they are.

Curious how the loco would back out, then come back in at various points through this video. What was happening there? Great video, nonetheless!

Hi Neil, glad you enjoyed it. The train reversed so that it could make a photo run past for participants of the tour to photograph the locomotive in action.

Aha! The loco likes to pose! Shee-eesh, what an ego! LOL (Can locomotives have egos? They say steam locos are the mechanical equivalent of human beings.... ha-ha-ha!)
