As someone who has to run a car on a shoe string it triggers me intensely seeing idiots seemingly on purpose doing £3000 engine damage to their car apparently for kicks. They just don’t deserve nice cars😠

Yep I had my first nice second hand car in my 30's and my first new car in my 40's. all previous ones were bombs that I would service myself having no money to pay someone and getting spares from the wreckers.

Epic! I was taught in Australia when driving through floods to have windows down and seatbelts off. We did have a Toyota Landcruiser with a Snorkel fitted.

Plus enter slowly and continue at the same speed to create a bow wave and push it away, rather than suck it in.

@@johnough4893 first of all you don't attempt it if is to deep or fast flowing. If you are determined to drive through it you go slow to stop the front causing a tidal wave which swamps the bonnet and gets in the air intake which ruins the engine. If a petrol car this will also drown the ignition. You also need to keep the engine revs high to stop water entering the exhaust. To do this and go slow you may have to slip the clutch

I cannot believe the stupidity of some drivers, they risk very expensive engine repairs doing stunts like this,if they make it through they then go tearing down the road with possibly very little braking power because of water on the braking surface’s,their not wrapped right.

Engine repairs.? In most cases it's a new engine, plus the labour to take the old one out and fit a new one. Plus the VAT. Best guess is 10 grand plus 👍

I can only imagine most of them are company cars as opposed to privately owned, so they don't really give a monkeys. That's my take anyway.

The intense heat caused by Friction between the discs and pads will burn off the water within milliseconds, imagine driving in heavy rain on a motorway, your brakes will still work perfectly because of the above mentioned reasons. Maybe drum brakes would lose some efficiency because they will hold a certain amount of water before they drain off.

even with oil on the disc and brakepads it still breaks fine. the difference is very small and not really noticable. i tested it. do you know how many mechanics forget to wipe off the oil from the brakediscs with breakcleaner??? as soon the disc make one rotation it is almost as good as it is without oil. the engine itself takes the air usually above the engine itself. if you drive trough slowly and the wave does not reach the intake you are fine.

Going fast does not mean you can MOVE the water away and not cause damage instead you will cause water to flow over bonnet flooding your airbox meaning car can not BREATHE...

It has been legally closed by the council since Dec 2022 & currently stands to be closed until June 2024. The reason it is open here is cus a farmer dragged the blocks/barriers out with a tractor. Council have since been back & put the barriers back

I always drove through deep water, slow to reduce splash & engine flooding, keeping the revs up very high, rocking the clutch to keep actual speed low. Maybe modern cars are different.
