I genuinely believe he is probably the best referee in any sport. He commands respect, is extremely respectful himself, allows the game to flow, explains everything very clearly so there is no confusion and actually has a personality that adds to the game as a whole. He doesn't make the game about him, but the way he is is very complimentary to the game and adds a little bit of humorous sparkle from a referee which you don't get in many sports.

@@Leifr952 Only in football I've seen players surrounding the referee and shouting at him. I love to watch football but there are things that need to be changed, one being the communication between the players and the refs.

Like a parent scolding his son!!! And....all 6' 5" of him says "sorry sir"!!!! That is why I love rugby....I love soccer as well, but the players of the round ball game have a lot to learn from the gentlemen of rugby. (That is from a soccer referee, now retired, of 32 years experience).....loved every minute, but some soccer players see officials as sworn enemies!!!!

I love how the refs dont take crap from no one and at the same time listen to the players and when the player makes a good point in the discussion the ref will agree with him. Thats proper sport right there.

It's the same in all sports, except rugby over-celebrates every single act of fair play with a commemorative video. Must be something to do with the inferiority complex.

If you're going to engage in debate then please learn some basic grammar. I'm not hating on rugby- just the weird and tedious behaviour of many rugby fans, who can't say anything positive about their sport without constantly comparing it with football. It's pathetic and it needs to stop for the good of rugby.

The sanctions help. Dissent is 10m closer. Yellow card is 10 minutes off the pitch. Normally worth a try. Culture is different as well.

I went to a secondary school that was rugby union first. The very first lesson our games master told us ....always respect the ref But if the ref doesn't serve justice.... you do!

The try was disallowed because he didn't tap the ball to start the play, the ref awarded a 22m dropout. TJ said if he never tapped the ball then the penalty was never taken so it should still be their penalty
