Ruger American .308 Bolt Handle Upgrade

In this video we upgrade the bolt handle from the standard manufactured handle to the Ruger American 487 Tactical Bolt for improved ergonomics and faster bolt recycling.

My new Anarch Outdoors bolt handle, knob, and tool just arrived for my RAR. I installed it while watching this easy to follow video. My billy badass custom bolt action is now 100% complete. I started with a basic budget Ruger American Ranch AR 300Blk rifle. I did all of the work myself, including the barrel swap. Upgrades: • Wilson Combat 16" 300 HAM'R barrel • Timney trigger set to 2lb • SiCo Omega 9k direct thread suppressor • Primary Arms ACSS 1-6X 300Blk FFP LVPO + low scope rings • MDT XRS FDE chassis • MDT 223 AICS mags • Anarchy Outdoors black bolt handle and long dragon scale knob. Total weight w/o magazine is 10lb 4oz.

FYI the machining on the bolt, and oem bolt knob can be very sharp. I'd wear gloves or check before hand.

After changing the bolt handle, I followed the directions, rotated the firing pin mechanism, removed the firing pin removal tool reinstalled the shroud rotated once and it clicked and then tried to rotate the second time and the shroud popped off. Now I am not sure how to get the firing pin mechanism and shroud to realign

You can line up the “bottom” of the firing pin back with the flush side of the bolt handle, and then use the anarchy tool to remove the firing pin. You don’t need to drop the firing pin back into the “raceway”

So I am left handed with typical configuration of right handed bolt gun. Would I be able to rotate the bolt handle 180 degrees so that it points toward the muzzle?

Sorry I am finally now getting back to this. You made mention that there is a direction for the bolt, it appears there are some recess cuts in the front of the bolt, is that correct, and would my plan actually work. Using Left hand bolt, mounted on right side.@@mwmag

How is your bolt so shiny? I just picked up a RAP 308 and my bolt looks dull.

get some jb compound and lather it on there, then cycle the bolt about 500 times. It will clean up the rougher areas and make it silent along with cleaning it up!

This whole kit cost $120 nit including shipping and tax. Why would you buy a budget rifle to only throw on a $260 stock, $150 bolt, $130 trigger. Just take the extra $500 and buy a $1000 rifle or buy a decent scope.

I understand your frustration but some of us just like to do projects even if there are better options out there. When you see a certain rifle and do your research and see all the possibilities and opportunities of upgrading it has you can turn it into something you REALLY want and will enjoy instead of settling for a rifle may be more expensive and great in its own ways but may not have what you want exactly

@@IsaacGonzalez-fq1ep Isaac it's just sad when people are encouraged to waste their money especially when these gun tubers claim they're poor or broke and how they baught this $400 rifle with their own money and then threw another $1000 into it. The big channels are most guilty of this.

It’s not a waste of money if it is something what you want. I have a a savage model 24b thats not worth much.. i put hundreds into it because it was my dads and I love that thing. To me its worth the money 😊

Some people just like tinkering and customizing. And it’s a lot more fun to do on a $400 Ruger American than a $1,200 Browning XBolt. There are some fully decked out RARs that still come in well under $1,000 (before optic).
