I have that Tikka Special edition in 6.5 PRC. An excellent rife, had a white tail from ~250m with a single shot and shoots amazing at the range

I just recently bought my first tikka. Actually, the first one I handled, I got the hunter version with the wood stock. The action, like you said, is amazing. I also have a gen 2 ruger ranch, and it will definitely get the most use it's just a handy rifle to carry around and has plenty of accuracy to do what ever I need to do around the farm.

Just left my FFL an hour ago with my 12th Tikka, also a T3x Hunter, 30-06 this time. I'm watching the Ruger Gen 2 for later this quarter to see what barrel length will be on 7PRC and probably 3rd quarter to see if they will have left hand. For the last 2 years, I've become a Tikka fan.

They are in two different categories though. The Tikka t3x ctr is $1150 and the Ruger American gen 2 is $600 both from Cabela's. It's almost half the price and the fact people actually compare the ruger to guns like this Tikka says a lot. Personally I believe you get more quality per dollar from Ruger. I previously had a Ruger M77 MKII and I have yet to handle a rifle as nice as that and you can get the M77 Hawkeye(basically the same gun)for $1000. Even if you don't plan on buying one you need to handle one. It's an amazing firearm.

Tikka originally had a plastic shroud too, but everyone complained and they've changed to metal pretty fast.

I have been a die hard Tikka fan. Had one in 7mm-08, and then another one in 308 that I recently sold, with the plans of picking up another one this year. I was looking at the CTR and others where I would have a threaded barrel, and they are all over $1000. But then this new American Gen 2 came out. For the price point, I am seriously thinking about getting this instead and saving about $400. Can't wait to check one out at a store.

I have a tikka CTR 308 20" and absolutely love it, that being said I also love the look and features of the new ruger american gen 2 and hopefully pick one up soon. Which one do you prefer?

Both are great and it really comes down to what you can afford. The action on the Tikka is slightly smoother but the ruger is still great. If you can afford both then get both.

Excellent video and review The Ruger feels/sounds more hollow because the Tikka stock is filled with foam. Its one of the things they addressed with the T3x vs the T3. So far after using several, their in the field performance is pretty much identical. yeah the Tikkas more refined but the proofs in the pudding. AI mags work and they are WAY cheaper than Tikka CTR mags. My only complaint with those particular models of Ruger American is that the rear action screw is hidden under the mag catch and that has to be disassembled to remove the screw.

Thanks Lucas. Do you need an adapter for the AI mags to work in the Tikka? I've seen a couple different options but haven't had a chance to try anything yet. And I agree about the action screw on the Ruger.

It all depends on what you're going to do with it. You can certainly spend more and get the tac. Some people will buy one of these guns for the purpose of putting them in their own stock or chassis system.

Both are very good rifles for the money. BOTH have cold hammer forged barrels. Both are likely sub MOA all day long. NOTE: You could have put a very nice MAGPUL bipod on the RUGER instead of that Rube Goldberg Harris bipod. It's 2024, not 1994.

@@BoomStickTactical@BoomStickTactical Anyone who complains about a Harris and then recommends the Magpul maybe shoots once a year. They're great bipods if it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't have to push any buttons to deploy a harris and no plastic. I agree going to atlas or accutac (my preferred) is a big upgrade, but at a cost. Keep rocking that Harris! great video.

The Tikki here in Canada wood stock retail price $1,349 cad no scope. The Ruger 2 is priced at $999 cad retail, with no scope. The gen 2 is out of stock everywhere here in Canada. At least i can't find one. I think in comparing both guns, the action and accuracy takes the most priority in my decision on buying a gun. The accuracy in both guns is comparable. But unless Ruger has fixed the mag and the action bolt in Gen 2, the Tikki is the way better choice even though they are $350 cad apart in price. The last thing I want is a guns action jamming or sticking in the field, that is, the difference in bagging something or going home empty-handed.

No real comparison given the fact that the Tikka is quite a bit more expensive. Also, you will not beat the v block bedding if the Ruger. Of the 4 my wife and I have none changes poi after removing and reinstalling the barreled action. But the Tikka is definitely more refined. Take care.

Which, as evidenced by a long history of both types, is of no consequence in accuracy. Despite the attractive features of the new Ruger, the Tikka has a better action in terms of smoothness and man they are insanely accurate. Both brands have hammer forged bbls. Only Rugers I've owned were Mark II M77s and the older M77. I think that's when Ruger was buying their barrels from Wilson(?)
