I think Josh was shooting a brand new or fairly new rprr. Reason being when i first got mine i had all the same complaints. However because of cancer i had to stick with the gun. Now, 2000 rounds later, it shoots like a dream. The action has smoothed out considerably, its like butter. It groups cci standard at 3/4 moa all day long. I have thought about shooting better ammo, but once again with cancer i cant justify spending more money for 1/10s of a inch. I have done two mods to mine. I foil tape bedded the action block and i swapped the trigger return spring for one from a zebra pen. Easy mods to do and really do help. The spring swap lowered the trigger to 1.5 lbs. But the biggest thing that helped it was shooting it, it has to be shot in. Mine hit the sweet spot at about 1200 rounds.

I agree with your assessment. All the reviews I have read are either hit or miss with various things. Mine was a hit. I didnt have to do this and could have let it run in but I took a ceramic stone and every sharp edge on the bolt, I smoothed. I didnt polish it as it wasnt necessary. The bolt was noticeably smoother after I did that but it was never sticky like Josh's. He got a miss. My action block was tight and didnt need bedding. I agree with Josh on the 15 round magazine. The 10's fit and feed way better. I had no bolt shaving but many did. If you round the edges on the bottom of the bolt, which I did from the get go, that will fix that problem and maybe why I never had it. CZ is not without faults as I had a bolt in a 455 dragging hard on the sear that holds it in. I bought it used but hardly shot because the original owner didnt like the bolt and sold it cheap. CZ customer service sucks. They never answered my messages about that gun. Ruger is way better in that department.

Sold my ruger and got the 457 pro varmint, only had 20 minutes of range time due to sunset after work but managed to get my zero + 2x 10 shot groups. 2nd string grouped at .23 and 3rd string at .11 with federal gold medal target... my mind is blown! I also have a CZ 457 AT-ONE. The only improvement was a spring kit for the trigger. My CZ likes a warm barrel before it really groups well. Now that it's coming winter in my parts I'll just be shooting my 2nd and 3rd runner up ammo till it warms up again. Mine likes SK Match and Standard Plus the best and will get 1/2 inch groups at 100 yd when I do my part and one inch when I don't. Not to bad for someone in their 70s Still working on it and that's the fun of it anyways.

I love my CZ457 pro varmint. With the long range Sk ammo it’s super accurate. I’ve ordered the Lilja barrel with straight .9” taper. If it’s an improvement then it will be a .1” gun. The factory 16.5” barrel is very capable if I do my part. I just can’t leave something alone for long. I’ve always shot Rugers but figured I would give the CZ Pro Varmint a try and even brand new with only the factory test rounds through the barrel it beat my Ruger American and 10/22 geoups by .3-.4”. I’m a CZ fan boy for life till I buy a stupid expensive Vudoo. Great job on the videos. 👍👍

I'm playing dress-up with a CZ 455. I have a couple Ruger rimfires that I've done a fair bit of shooting and tinkering with. But hands down, the CZ out classes and out shoots the Rugers. You have to get into an M77-22 to approach the CZ. And then you still need a really good trigger job.

Hey Josh - Thanks for all the great video's - I really enjoy your series. I would like to ask for some assistance. Our club is starting NLR22. I am looking at two rifles. The Ruger American Long Range and the CZ varmint topped with a Monstrum 6x24 FFP or a Simmons Tactical 6x24 2ndFP. I am looking to stay in the stock division for now. I know you say spend the money on glass however, budget does not allow that at this time and with either choice of firearms no even half way decent glass will work. My one concern is the 22" barrel on the Ruger and losing velocity and hard to find anything on the accuracy of one. The CZ Varmint great barrel and action. The Ruger seems to have all the check boxes from stock to heavy barrel. The CZ would need more stuff out of the box. I know you love CZ, but what would be your recommendation having been there done this? Since I can't afford optic and firearm. Looking for a accurate platform. At least that is my thought. Stock price limit - 1050.00 Ruger American Long Range Target - MSRP = 719.00 CZ Varmint - MSRP = 625.00 Monstrum G3 6x24x50 FFP - MSRP = 259.00 Ruger total - 978.00 - leaves 72.00 until max CZ Total - 884.00 - leaves 166.00 until max Thanks in advance

This is an excellent video. His At One just shot a fantastic group with crap ammo, right out of the box!! I've had all the Ruger 77/22's ,77/17 etc etc. A most beautiful rifle as it looks like a rifle should look in it's walnut stock. With a trigger spring kit the little Rugers shoot from great to good to good enough. Then guess what? along comes CZ and designs a more accurate 22RF rifle and actually for less money. Shame on Ruger for allowing this to happen. I just bought a CZ AT One based on the reports and video's like this. The At One is a beautiful rifle and for the money it can't be beat.

Excellent comparison! I'd agree with everything said. I'd just note that for anyone going the CZ route, MDT makes a CZ specific 20 moa rail for about $65. It doesn't have the bubble level like the Area 419 but it sits a little lower on the gun and is a great fit if you don't have a cheek piece.. Because I found it perfect on my MTR (without cheek piece, with low rings and 50mm objective Athlon). hth

lousey comparison (every barrel prefers a certain ammo) so you can make any gun better by adding a barrel tuner and finding which ammo that barrel likes! as for the quality of action cleaning and lube can help the rpr but the cz is probably better. for the price you can have a great gun in ruger.

The fit and finish of the barreled action will be good to go. The synthetic stock may degrade the accuracy slightly but its still going to be an accurate rifle for you. Good thing is you can just buy a second stock or chassis and use it for both hunting and target shooting

Would like to see you do a comparison between one of your CZ457 and it. It would be fun to see Vudoo taken down a notch. Even if it shoots a little better, does it warrant the $2000 plus price difference. This is not a challenge in any way. I think, doing this, could bring a lot of interest to your channel and I do respect what you are trying to do. Would gladly volunteer to let you use mine for a reasonable time to do so. Ive had a CZ452 for 30 yrs, since the wall came down and we could buy from the Checks. my buddy n I spent several summers trading 22s and bench shooting them. Till you were ready to drop a grand on a rifle ,the CZ is the best. He bought a kimber american last. It was a complete gun. artfull wood beautiful. super sweet trigger and yu could feel the bullet goin down the barrel. best ammo s for accuracy and price 1, remmington subsonics 2 federal gold metal match. RWS subsonics were in there for accuracy but up in price. the other gem was agiular 60 grains very consistant but a rainbow round. This is aged info, supossedly during the ammo shortage prior,22 manufactures thinned the cases to save money.. Id like to see rem subs shot as well as Fed gold metal match. The rems out preformed every type Eley round out of our guns and 1/4 the price. we could keep 4 rounds touching at fifty and have a fifth drift a bit, but im not sure we shot any better than that. My dad told me most factory guns will shoot bettr than you can hold form. it takes a lot of time on a bench to dispute that.

Noticed that you are using 15 round mags with the Ruger. It has been discussed (although I personally never tested) that 10rd mags are better for precision shooting than the 15rd ones (they are totally different design mags) due to round scratching issues in 15rd mags. It might be an interesting test video though.

Put some extra money in the RAR LRT, that is an amazing rifle, thick barrel, 22 inch, it’s massive and not as flimsy as the RPR. My rifle ways about 5,1 kg (scope and bipod included) and is a super stable platform. Well, it’s all personal in the end.

Something reviewers rarely mention is results vary, X ring did an accuracy review on the Ruger RPR and a CZ457 and the Ruger's accuracy was better. As we all know, ammo, even the best stuff shoots different out of different rifles. I have one rifle that will shoot Federal Target a 1/4 '' at 50yds and my other target will only print 1 1/4''. Point is, the reviewer should mention that using different ammo the results could be opposite and yes you could luck out and get an accurate barrel or get one that does not shoot that well. To get a better perspective , watch multiple reviews on any given product to get a more accurate overall view . Josh does a good job, but just failed to mention that there are variables and using different ammo could easily change these results.

True statement. After having owned several of both rifles the laws of average heavily favor the 457 outperforming the rpr.

I have a CZ 457 lux and while it is a beautiful firearm, I noticed my front sight has already come loose after about 200-300 rounds. It is not my first CZ rifle to have this happen. I also own the CZ 527 in 7.62x39 and the same thing happened only that it was worse because the actual front sight came flying off. Not sure how they're attaching the front sights but I think CZ needs a better job at making them not get loose so easily. Now I am in the market for a 22WMR, and I am thinking of giving the Ruger American a chance due to my luck with CZ. Now it won't matter much to those that scope their rifles immediately, but I love irons on my rifles so it is a big deal to me.

I own a Ruger. The bolt is very crunchy and the stock has a plastic feel, but for the money, it is a great value. I would like to see you try another shootout with a few different ammo selections to see what the Ruger likes. Mine shoots about .75" group shooting Lupua Center-x. Great job on the video.

Like I said I have the ruger and it is smooth not crunchy but it gets cleaned and oiled after every shooting session. It’s a bad ass gun for the money. I also have a SAR 9 and it out shoots the glocks. It feels better and seems like it’s made better too after testing a Glock then the SAR the SAR killed it. Don’t what all the complaints are about.

Salut Josh, Here I am, an adoring owner of a CZ 457 MTR, then you went and videod the CZ 457 AT-ONE in comparison with the Ruger. I have only just persuaded myself NOT to add the CZ 457 AT-ONE to my collection, can I really justify such an unnecessary investment? When I say “justify” my problem is I need to convince “her in doors” aka “she who must be obeyed” ...... after 46 years of marriage (to the same woman) I have truly learnt my survival skills. How would you compare the MTR and the AT-ONE. I know they both have so much the same with the Match chamber etc, and I know the main difference is the adjustable stock ..... but the fact is that the Boyds stock looks so good, so which one do you prefer to shoot and why? You will probably say they are equally excellent, however CZs are very addictive, and as the bad guy lying on the pavement said to Dirty Harry .... I just gotta know! Cordialement RB P.S. If you only borrowed the CZ 457 AT-ONE, I could live with that and stop tormenting myself!

It sounds like you just really don’t like the RPR at all. My brother shoots a CZ pro varmint and I have the RPR and I have just as good of groups at 50-100 as he does. If he isn’t shooting SK ammo then I can almost always get just as good or better groups using Norma Tac or CCI standard. It did take the ruger a while to get shooting tight groups but after 2000 rounds through my ruger and not one failure to feed or stove pipe, I’m completely happy with it. He shoots NRL 22 and I’ve seen the CZ misfeed multiple times during competition and cost him points. It’s a great rifle but I overall I just prefer the ruger. I also get much better groups with a silencer co switchback suppressor.

Its just my opinion of the rifle based on the 3-4 ive shot. There is a reason why you dont see them nearly as often as the 457's, t1x, b14r's etc in competition. There is always good and bad examples of any rifle mass produced. So naturally there are rpr that would walk a 457 and vicr versa. But if you averaged them out across total ownership i can almost guarantee the cz wins by a landslide for fit and finish, accuracy, reliability, and consistency. I have 0 affiliations with either rifle manufacturer or ammo's tested in this video. Its just my honest opinion on two rifles. It wont line up with everyones opinions or experiences
