Mine is based on Ten years of paid professional written reviews of shooting equipment in magazines in England, U.S. Europe and Scandinavia. I have this rifle. Add a Fat Bastard 5 port muzzle break. Atlas bi-pod, Magpul PRS3 stock, Anarchy firing pin and bolt handle. Top with a GOOD high scope. Feed it Hornady 285 ELD-M or 300 Sierra Match with RL26, H1000, LRT, or VV24N41. Go have fun. Of all my rifles. This is my favorite one. I've already have 2,000 rounds through it.

Hey Chris, Really digging your review... Descriptions were spot on for transference of info and you are the first to discribe harmonics recoil concussive applications. I will be studying your other videos to improve my hunting applications. Currently my ethical range is restricted to 425 yards due to limitations of effective bullet expansion of copper. The RPR 6.5 Creedmoor is excellent but I am looking for a longer rifle... Subscribed, thanks guy!

Thank you for your in depth work up on this rifle. I'm in the south eastern US and Just got my hands on this exact rifle. I can't wait to get out there with it once I get my scope rings I ordered. It was nice to see you using a Harris bipod. Some others I talked too said that I need to have an ATLAS bipod, or something in that price range for this rifle due to the caliber lol. I think Im going to grab a harris one like you had there cause I really don't want to spend what an Atlas costs, even if people say they are the best.

Thank you. I am an OLD shooter, never a good range shooter, but over 40 years, I lost less than ten deer in New Zealand bush hunting. Seen a lot of American Gun reporters and demonstrations. This here is so refreshing!! Honest and NO BULLSHIT ra ra ra!! By the way, I am very biased towards Ruger rifles. My wee deer gun was a Ruger of course!! in 44 REMMAG. A trajectory like a u-bolt, but 200 gns at 2000fps. and an accurate range all the way out to 90 yards.

Good Review. I have had mind for less than a year. I have put only a few hundred dowm range, due to lack of available distance. I live in the mountains, so its less common to run into a mile+ shot. That being said, I have spent some time at those distance. I think the rear picitiny comment is a little hypercritical. I honestly never noticed it was lacking in ergonomics until you said something. However, like you I prefer a soft rear rest. The other comment I was slightly disagree with is if being a recreational or training long gun. I would agree that it's set up is out of the box ready to go, and does lend itself to a good training rifle. That being said, it also a greag starting point for a competition rifle. Most people will buy a relatively bare bones kit and build their rifle to spec for competition. This rifle gets you started, but is easily adjustable for really any level of shooting. As you said, add a larger bipod and you will increase stability. I would say that is underselling it a bit. This rifle can be tuned quite nicely for competition. I know some who fire off a soft bag at long range with the RPR and they are accurate and consistent. I also believe too many focus on the rifle and its capabilities. I believe its less about the rifle and more about the shooter. A professional shooter could take a far inferior long gun and out shoot a medium level shooter with a $10k rifle. All in all I agree witb your assessment. As an owner of the RPR .338, I am very impressed and even as I progress, i do not intend to go to another setup. I may make some changes to the RPR as needed, but I don't believe a pro could out shoot this rifle. One side bar. I did almosg exactly what u said about ths cheek rest. I removed the rest from the riflez added a thin slice of memory foam, maybe 1-inch in height, and used athletic tape to secure it. Apply some Sharpie marker for camo and it was not only more ergonomic, but increased the comfort factor. Well done, I'll keep watching.

What is the purpose of holding the stock into your should instead of Loading the Bipod. My shooting mat has a pocket/lip across the front to catch the feet. That way I can push myself into the rifle and use my hand to manipulate the rear bag to adjust elevation. I also do not wrap my thumb around the grip because of the possibility of input from grabbing the grip.

Honestly wish I would have bought my Ruger Precision Rifle in 338. Unfortunately I bought it in the 300 PRC, which is a good cartridge but you just can't find ammo, brass or bullets for it Lol. Because Hornady who developed and marketed it, isn't producing it in any significant quantity. So some day after seeing your review and several others I'll join the 338 Lapua Mag crowd, just wish I'd done more research on the 300 PRC. In your opinion, how would you feel does the Hawke match up on this rifle compares to the S&B PMII. What i am trying to say for the person who decides to buy this rifle why would they want such an expensive scope if the Hawke on paper is much much cheaper and in my humble opinion just as effective especially guys wanting to get into long range shooting on a budget of $4000 for a rifle and scope combination.

Hey Chris, 1954mje here again (KZfaq made me create an account.) Again really informative review! It is my intention to purchase the RPR 338 LM to extend my ethical hunting range out to 500-700 meters. My RPR 6.5 Creed utilizing %100 copper ammo ethical range for me is 425 meters. I would like to try the OSS Supressor on it as it is 338 specific, reduces recoil and noise. I harvest 2-4 game each year after much practice for shot placement at various range. Various other calibers were considered and your statements about harmonics recoil concussive was a crucial factor as practice is essential. Please let me know what you think about the OSS Suppressor idea. Thank you, Mark
@leadcloud
@leadcloud 2 жыл бұрын
Not Mark, but my 2c on the suppressor would be to go with something other than the OSS for a bolt action. OSS cans are designed specifically to have low back-pressure in semi-automatic systems, so they make some compromises that you won't be able to get benefits from in a bolt gun. I would recommend looking at more efficient cans such as the Thunder Beast 338 Ultra or the CGS Hekate for a suppressor on a .338 bolt action

Some rifle stocks transmit resonance/vibration through your cheek and head causing concussion, it's unpleasant and tiring in the first instance and after a whole day with a bad gun, gives you a serious headache, because it is concussion! I prefer guns that DON'T do this, it is an element of recoil in terms of linear friction but, it's the vibration that's most irritating because few heavy tacticool guns physically kick very hard, big game rifles are somewhat different😂
@tinynews11
@tinynews11 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisparkin431 Thanks for that follow-up. So, to be clear, I should not expect the nasty vibration from the RPR .338? I'm being a bit repetitious in the questioning because I currently have an RPR in 300 win mag (recoil is relatively light with no troubling cheek-sting/vibration), and I am thinking seriously about 'trading up' to the larger round. I highly recommend removing this tool if you wish to use the rifle for any duration of use. @@jamesglenn520 I found that if you do a rapid charge with the bolt that the tool gets loose and likes to dislodge inside the bolt/firing pin area. Even after placing it back where it's supposed to be stored, it still gets loose after normal use. I find its just easier to store the trigger tool in my rifle bag instead on the bolt. One less thing I need to worry about getting busted in this rifle.

How does it compare to a Tikka T3X Tac?
@chrisparkin431

Tikka don't offer a 338 last time I looked, it's perhaps comparable to Sako TRG or M10

I've got both and in build quality the tikka is well ahead. The rpr is great at what it is. A big clunky brute. The tac a1 in 6.5 is silky smooth.

Really needs a height-adjustable butt pad (like every other precision rifle out there).
@GripEngineering
@GripEngineering 11 ай бұрын
By design, it doesn't need it. Those other stocks have a greater top-of-pad to bore center offset which is why THEY need the adj buttpad (so it can be raised). Buttpad does have an adjustment for lateral offset to provide a better fit for shooter; either left or right, just fyi.
