Mojang just announced the new Sniffer Minecraft mob for the Minecraft Live 2022 Mob Vote! So... I ruined it.

The sniffer is an interesting new Minecraft mob which may be in the Minecraft 1.20 new update. This new Minecraft mob which will likely be released in Minecraft 1.20 [if it wins the Minecon Live Mob Vote] is born from an ancient egg and can smell out seeds for new plant blocks. Its fate will be decided at Minecon 2022 during the Minecraft Mob Vote, where it will go up against the Minecraft Rascal and the Minecraft Tuff Golem (yes, there was a Minecraft mob vote leak). This is how we got Minecraft phantoms, Minecraft glow squids, and the Minecraft allay. Will Dream rig the Minecraft Mob Vote this time?

Oxygen Tank - Tank able to contain moleculs of O2 in it to be used later, can be highly explosive

Honestly, unless there's another mob with an awesome mechanic like the Sniffer's or a cool spoopy halloween mob, then this is probably one of the best options for this year's mob vote.

Your version of this mob will most likely be better than the actual version. The only thing is that these little guys when they grow huge with an oxygen tank would probably become hydrogen bombs.

Don't lock in yet. What if the seed is just some other variation of tall and short grass and flower. Like that one mob everyone voted for because it that one guy, you might regret it

I still can't believe that there are people out there who can model such high-quality models in such a short amount of time... Like seriously! This mob just got announced like 7 hours ago! And on top of that you added accurate behaviors for it? Amazing!

That's the thing with Minecraft, if you know what you're doing really well, then stuff like this doesn't pose much of a challenge. It's visually a very simple game by design, so, especially with a concept piece like the mob vote trailer to work off of, the model and texture is fairly easy, while the behavioral stuff is mostly comprised of code, which already exists in the base game. It still takes dedication to the craft to pull this stuff of so quickly, but it isn't rocket science.

Mate just learn to use blockbench and even a relatively new person can do this in 2-3 hours if they know how to draw textures decently. Minecraft is one of the most inviting games to learn to model for.

@@loveluclins Blockbench is an absolute lifesaver istg, if you know how to model and know how to do pixel art you can implement a new mob in the game really fast. Granted, it'll probably take you much, much longer to come up with ideas for the mob if it's not based off a real creature, and bugtesting + polishing will also take a while. But just adding it to the game? 2-3 hours as you said If you ever want to learn game development or game modding Minecraft is a great option

As a builder in Minecraft and Biology/History nerd, the sniffer really has a friend in me :) This mob itself gives so much new content and designs(size variants, eggs, new plants overworld and sea etc.). Maybe also archeology lore?.. closest thing to dinosaur we will see in Minecraft i guess.

The reason I prefer the Tuff Golem is that archaeology is going to be added no matter what so this Mob would probably be added anyway.

@@omega0422 no archeology isn't sure it's going to be implemented, it isn't confirmed anywhere, and once a mob have won, the other 2 wouldn't be seen in Minecraft ever again. The other exceptions are the mobs of the first mob vote, where the other 3 mobs that lost got their features implemented in the game in another way

I think the sniffer is based off of a Bunyip. A Bunyip is an aquatic, Australian, mythical creature that is occasionally described as having a beak/bill and floppy ears.

I love the design. It has everything....Unique design, lore potential, cute, multiple sizes, new plant life. What more do you need from a mob vote? The rascal is gonna be a villager varient and the tuff golem is probably gonna be a tougher golem with a possible new game mechanic. I feel like I already know the winner... I can smell it.

It doesn't have any sense to get the sniffers an oxygen tank, because, the minecraft earth never got meteorites or asteroids, so the oxygen would be very more elevated than in real live, and in a proof, we got the spiders, they are a lot more bigger than a tarantula in real live, almost by 1 meter (1 block equals 1 meter) by 1.50 meters...

Id love it if it would be possible to ride sniffers in the game and even put double chests on them because of their size but they are much slower than horses, almost like riding a travelling elephant

Thanks for the visualization of this. The idea of it collecting seeds makes it another cool utility mob. That is if we vote it. We'll have to see what the other mobs are in the following days, though.

Don't vote for it on the basis of potentially new seeds. If last year's Minecraft Live is anything to go by, a "we want to do this" is still no guarantee, that a proposed feature will be added. The idea of adding new seeds along with the sniffer is just a "maybe we will even do this", not a promise, just a chance. So vote for the sniffer based on the idea of bringing an extinct, more fantastical creature to life and having it generate seeds (even if they are just vanilla) and nothing else. That is the only way to avoid being disappointed by the sniffer's actual implementation, if it wins.

if the sniffer is affected by the amount of oxygen in the air it would not be a dinosaur as the Mesozoic had a pretty similar level of oxygen to the present.

is no one talking about thte fact that the mob might be copied from the chillo from the mod "frozen up". similarities: they are both big in the center, the beaks are almost the same and they both dig up items that only they can find. the diffrences: the chillo is white while the sniffer is colourful, the sniffer has to be summoned by the player and finally, instead of truffles, the sniffer find rare seeds.

Yeah, especially with how little we can trust them now after last year. Anything that isn't mentioned or has a wording around it, that isn't an outright promise can't be taken as a guarantee. Like the sniffer's official proposal is literally just it being an adorable, living seed generator, which you can choose to bring back from extinction. Even the idea of it coming with its unique set of new plants is just proposed as a "maybe we will even do this", when a "we want to do this" proposal never even got to the experimental snapshot stage.

ok but seriously, what does it drop if you kill it w/o the oxygen tank??? i was thinking maybe a clamping beak being a splash damage thingy from prehistoric poisons a sniffer hide to make sniffer armor (the moss hide) and sniffer meats that actually have extremely effective dna so if you eat the meat you will be turned into a sniffer and have to make your way to a chest for an oxygen tank before you oof
