Joan Crawford was a very good actress, far better than she ever realised. But she was a very needy person and she needed to be loved in a controlling, insecure way. So she tried to bully Bette Davis into liking her, by buying her gifts etc. But Bette would have none of Joan's guileful ways and the more Joan tried the more Bette rebelled against what she rightly perceived as Joan's attempts to gain control. Though this is probably apocryphal, Bette apparently said of Joan "If you hang around her long enough, you'll pick up all kinds of shit".

Eh. A woman locked upstairs for what, decades, taken care of by her mentally disturbed sister, would not have looked or acted as angelic as Joan probably insisted that she would be. She looked as beautiful as could possibly be - conditioned hair, rosy lips - while her character was slowly dying on the beach. That kind of choice was good for her image but it did not make for a compelling climax.

Looks great in color! And, I will say, great job with the editing too, both the visuals and the soundtrack! It really emphasizes how much this movie is a thriller, and also how hauntingly sad the story is at the same time. Very good job!

Joen. JC was not paralysed. When BD picked her of the bed they had to weigh her down with a special belt to make it more awkward for BD to lift her off the bed. Watch the dinners being given to JC by BD. She was trying to kill / starve her to death. In the film BD was to say the least JEALOUS of her sister. Watch BD ordering the Gin. Making out she was her sister. JC was unable to go downstairs. JC played the paraplegic. They both went to a party one night. BD was so drunk she could not drive. In the film you see JC turn round as she is opening the gates to the drive. Not thinking BD would put her foot on the accelerator and drive into JC . This is all explained either during the film or at the end. The beach scene shows BD has lost it completely. This is why I have said watch it several times to understand what really happened. You cannot take it all in one go. PC. 02. 08. 2022.

Miss Davis gave in this film, what will forever be the most deserving Oscar-winning performance not to have won. I suppose that Bette Davis did at least have the consolation of two previous Oscar statuettes to keep he company though. Imagine how Glenn Close must feel...so many deservedly winning performances, and not a single statuette from the Academy.....yet!

Brilliant job! Never thought in my lifetime I would get a chance to see it in color, as I have always thought what It would look like if it was. There are many who refuse to see a black & white film because they feel it is 'old looking'. Though they miss the point why many were, here is their chance to finally check out a film, in color or black & white how still effective it is so many years later.

This short sample is enough of what might have been. I find black & white draws me in and keeps me there in a way color doesn't. People that refuse to see a film for this reason are brain-dead pieces of s---- that deserve the constant over stimulation saturation of the latest Marvel comic film or whatever the latest they-all-look-alike film is. Don't even bother with people like that William. They're not fit to lick your feet, OR maybe that's all they're fit for. Uggghk.

On the contrary - there are many who think it is heresy to see a B&W film "colorized" (or as I call it, "bastardized"). It was shot in B&W and meant to be seen in B&W. Color destroys it.

I love that BJH didn't just serve Blanche her own parakeet like it was any old rotisserie chicken she picked up at Costco and served on Dollar Store plates. Oh, no . She served it on a silver tray and on a bed of sliced tomatoes, no less! It's that exquisite attention to detail, that care for presentation that is so often sadly lacking in culinary design.
