usf has never won a conference title in football, basketball or baseball. Ever. They just went 6-6 only after UCF, Cincy, and Houston left. Let's get serious about this league and wait for the ACC implosion.

They actually do make sense though. They are just as valuable as UCF and are building crazy facilities right now. I also remember how big their fanbase was when we played. We could use some eastern travel partners 🤷‍♂️

I agree…I don’t mind adding WSU and OSU if the network is willing to add those brands….but those other universities no thank you. I think the Big 12 is good at 16 and should wait and see what happens with the ACC.

I can't imagine the Big 12 would ever be interested in Memphis, USF, UTSA, Temple, ECU, Tulane, etc. The next step is adding a few ACC schools.

Well they were sure interested in Memphis 2.years ago. They won more games in the AAC than the 3 who joined, have made a NY 6 Bowl game and had 2 #1 recruiting classes in Basketball, all in the last 5 years. Not many schools the Big 12 is looking at can say that. Maybe the grant of rights is breakable for the ACC, but I have watched a lot of florida state videos, and this is probably the fourth time i've heard they are getting out. You may be waiting for a while. Until it actually happens, i am not holding my breath. It doesn't hurt to have a plan in case it isn't breakable. Maybe the ACC is indeed about to implode, but this is all still allegedly and from FSU the last I saw.

If I'm the Big 12 Commish, I'm building a best of what's left national conference in all of the continental time zones. Control lots of states and big cities that don't have a B1G/SEC outreach like he's doing now. Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, WV, etc. We don't have to bend the knee to the P2 if we don't want to and still be very attractive for a future TV deal. Plus our basketball is already #1.

@@mike111777 Sure, but no reason for exactly 24, or for divisions. I expect the Big Ten and SEC will take 4-6 from ACC (including ND), and the Big XII will take a similar number from what's left.

For decades BYU and East Carolina led group of five schools in attendance. Yes, who has been considered G5 has fluctuated quite a bit. I'm old enough to remember when Louisville, Utah, TCU were considered outside of the big boy club. Also, a bunch of schools that were considered "major/power" schools while in the Big East are now in the ACC and AAC. Syracuse, Boston College and Miami were EQUAL to South Florida and Temple. My point is the labels put on schools have been very fluid over time. Virginia Tech and East Carolina were very equal on the field before the VA governor stepped up to help get the Hokies in the ACC. Despite struggling on the field over the past decade, ECU gets P5 type attendance and streaming numbers. Football averages about 40,000 per game and streams above many P5 schools.

East Carolina University AD was basically begging to be apart of the Big 12 in open letter that he sent to the Big 12 and made public when the whole conference realignment was taking place. The problem East Carolina is running into is that they don't have a rival in the American Conference and they don't have anyone that relatively close to them for fans to drive to.

Drake, Ariz State and Univ of Arizona are different schools. UAz is a great add for basketball. Looking forward to BBall next year. Football is an open question but the hope is they are where they were in 2023.

Mostly agree on the TP convo. BYU is unique. Not only did it nail a much higher ranked recruiting class than traditional for BYU, it gets back RMs from prior classes that did not contribute last year (this happens every year). It's hard to judge BYU (good/bad projection) because it's situation is so much different than all others. BYU could be a 3 win team this fall, or an 11 win team. It's a program that you never really know how to evaluate them. The RM talent is really good.

I'm not holding my breath on the ACC imploding. If it doesn't, I would go with memphis. They almost got the invite earlier, and have the most potential of any of the G5 programs to me.

Texas Tech also has a top 25 recruiting class outside of the transfer portal. So they have good production returning, good transfer help incoming, and good players coming from HS they can pull from for production this year. The Red Raiders are in a good spot talent wise.

I mean, put it in context, perhaps they didn't think the big-12 would make it. The irate eight with a few G5 tacked on does not look like a P anything conference... still, today. But at that time they were saying that the big-12 wasn't going to make it.

@@benjaminhawkes6693 I'm a native of the Tampa Bay Area and have followed that program since its inception in 1996. When UCF got an invite to a Power 5 conference and they didn't, they were incensed and outraged. In the case of USF, they would have accepted an invite to the PAC if it meant they were playing P5 football. USF has even been going hardcore towards building a new, "on campus" stadium to get a crack at the P5. I'd assume that they'll eventually get an invite to the ACC, but there's no way they would have turned down the Big 12, at one point, they were trying to hitch their wagon to UCF and were billing themselves as UCF's biggest rival. I mean, in theory, you could be right, but with their longstanding desire to be on the big stage and the fact that they're in the American and likely could have always returned if their conference failed, I just don't see them having ever turned down the Big 12.

Liberty has a decent football program and a big alumni base considering how young the university is. However, I think they’re a much better fit in the American, which I think they’ll end up in eventually. But I’m an Ok State fan, so what do I know 🤷🏻‍♂️

IMO, Gonzaga will end up in the Big East if change is needed, maybe along with St Mary’s for a travel partner. As a BYU fan I would love to see those schools as fellow conference members again, but at the end of the day the Big 12 doesn’t need them and the non-football thing is problematic. As a Tampa resident who has attended games, I’d say put a pin in USF. The fan base is absolutely disengaged, and I can’t blame them. But they have the same immense potential as UCF. Let’s see what happens with the on-campus stadium.

Despite geography, Gonzaga and St. Mary's would be a good fit for the basketball-only Big East Conference which currently extends as far as Omaha, NB with Creighton. Over a decade ago, I recall serious discussions about Boise State joining the old Big East Conference because of its automatic-qualifier to the BCS post season football playoffs. Geography did not matter then and does not matter today for realignment.

I’d also add big 12 will expand with programs that have had some consistency maybe even one conference titles. Ecu and usf have done neither. In fact both still mediocre. I’d say recent success for USF is relative. They are .500 now vs .250. And it’s very coach-based I would argue meaning both coaches, especially the football coach will leave USF as soon as possible probably by the end of next year if he continues to improve, he’ll have rumors. Once he’s gone they go back to obscurity.

BYU only has about 2 remaining 'ships available after recruiting and returning missionaries unless/until spring attrition. Their focus is on recruiting vice portal--especially after last year's experience. Took too long to gel.

UConn is in the best conference it can be in without having a football brand. The Big East has a good commissioner, a strong core and travel logistics that make sense for the non revenue sports. If the ACC and Big 12 had stayed competitive with the top two, maybe uconn would have jumped in with one of them, but without a "power" invite (which they'll never get now), they're gonna stay put. Eventually, they'll have to go football only in a G5, but that'll work out sooner or later.

As a big 12 fan, we need to add more teams over east. All of the other schools have schools near them except for UCF. West Virginia and Cincinnati may be close to one another, but I would like to see a team in between them and ucf and one in between them and the rest of the B12. But I think it is more important to add someone like Miami or maybe Georgia Tech to connect UCF to someone regionally. I don’t think FSU will join though. I would think that they would rather go Independent than go to the B12 if the SEC or B10 doesn’t take them.

How do you keep ignoring that Iowa State has done so well in retaining talent? They are 2nd in the country with 85% if their production returning. And they get one measley inaccurate sentence saying that they might be #1? Most of the B12 retained roughly 65% of their production. Why wouldn't you he talking about the culture Matt Campbell has put into place that players believe in and stay in the program? This is a gem of the B12 and it doesn't seem like you are even aware of it.

Iowa State . You are correct they were in the Big 12 championship just a few years ago. 9-3 Brock Purdy 49rs super bowl 7-6 last year with one of the youngest teams in the country. Ranked for mostly since coach Campbell started in 2018 .They went to 5 Bowls since They don’t win ?? ?? Wow 😳. Yes the cyclones need more respect!!!

Oklahoma wrestling is staying because the SEC is not a wrestling conference. NCAA DIV 1 needs to be broken in half because half of these teams are not competitive enough for DIV 2, NAIA, or even some community colleges

Trying to game this out. Does the B1G want Florida State? Would Fox change the payment AGAIN? The main reason for ESPN to want to give Florida State a raise by moving them to the SEC is if Fox is willing to overpay for them. I know the chance of that isn’t zero. But ESPN & Fox just called a bit of a truce to partner on a streaming service because the scheme that had them paying big money to the P2 isn’t that stable. If I’m wrong, it’ll be because ESPN is more interested in dropping dead weight than they are in giving two handfuls of schools a raise. But I suspect ESPN wants to stabilize… to the end of the P2 contracts, not the full ACC length. They’re better off keeping the band together for the interim.

Let's not throw UTSA under the bus. The rest of those I agree with, but UTSA is a real school with a real football team, with a large student enrollment in a large Texas city. In the moment, certainly, they are not in any cogent Big 12 conversation, but 10 years from now they certainly could be.

The problem with usf is they don’t have culture, football tradition, they were relevant in football like once 20 years ago, no consistency . They’re just now building facilities. They need to win more. Win a championship make a big bowl game, cause a stir. Everything else is there for them except the athletics.

The leftovers need to take anybody they can get. The ACC will most likely back fill and avoid rhe embarrassment of joining the misfits just for money like Arizona, ASU and Utah. Take who you can, while you can before you officially join the G7.

Also, we should be done with Washington state and Oregon state. I keep hearing that it’s not happening they’re too far out west there’s no need to get those schools they have the Big Ten already have Washington and Oregon, so why would you get the leftovers that submitting that you’re not good enough if you get those schoolsif you notice the big 12 want the full market shared they don’t want half of it that’s why they have Arizona and Arizona State that’s why they have BYU and Utah. Tech does need to earn the respect it craves. McGuire is building a program. The talent is improving. Everyone is waiting for that to show up as W’s. Talk is cheap and the scoreboard doesn’t lie. It also would be a big help to be competitive in all your games. Losing by 50 destroys your credibility.

Watch out for ASU, they could be the "trap game" for a lot of Big XII teams including the Utes? Don't underestimate Colorado, they have the best QB in the conference plus Hunter. If they can put it all together like Arizona did last season, they're going to be hard to beat. That's even with an 'average' O-line (their O-line last season was atrocious). I can't wait for the season to start... GO UTES!
