Viewers can tell this is animated because the CSX trailers behind the engine keep changing colors and the engines horns keep blowing inappropriately. I live only 3 block’s from the I-5 corridor’s 4-lanes of train-track’s here in Kelso, Washington, so after 21 year’s, I’ve learned the “timing the engineer’s use” when they approach a street they have to cross. 😁👍🏽(there are 2 street’s they have to cross here in South-Kelso, Washington)

a runaway engine is when the engine remains at full throttle no mater what

@@men7mk202 yes you are right it is simulated but if you notice the title of the video is “RUNAWAY locomotive ENGINE” and Xavier is right about a runaway engine is stuck at full throttle and you cannot stop it.

He didn’t cause the runaway, the turbo did, there was oil leaking into the engine and that caused it to get stuck at full RPM, only way to shut one off is to starve the engine for air.

It's a trailing turnout, the locomotive will just force the switch rail against the closure rail and not derail. It may however damage the operating mechanism.

It is an old engine. You can tell by the rust on the top. When it was made most of the technology that we have today on trains wasn’t there yet.

Early non EFI (Electronic fuel injection) GE locomotives had a mechanical overspeed trip that would return fuel from the racks back to the tank. Unfortunately, everything is always prone to fail at any time on old locomotives, sometimes with no warning. Murphy's law is always in full swing on the high iron.
