It's been almost a year since we went from living vanlife to buying property to build into our off grid homestead in Tennessee. It's been quite the transition with plenty of ups and down....was it a good change for us? Do we have regrets?

Farming, Ranching, Homesteading, Gardening , is a full time job . No days off . That is real. It is good to be real.

Freedom is expressed in different ways with different kinds of actions. Homesteading is 100% action . It is daily creation, daily unfolding, daily learning .

The world is out there for one to grab, always remember you can do anything you want to do. You all have the true heart in homesteading and you're doing a fantastic job at it. Proud of what you guys have accomplished!!!

I've heard vanlifers say it leads to homesteading, so do preppers (not the doomsday type), and a lot of city folk. What that means to me, and is a bit of a caution for me is, Homesteading can be a very very diverse and vibrant community, where every person, couple or family brings so much to the table. The value is immense, if we accept it and don't get that "Appreciation Fatigue".

I am so happy your channel took off . You guys deserve it. I was watching you during your vanlife travels and couldn't understand why you didn't get more views then . Oh well , you persevered and overcame. You seem like two very bright young people. Remember to Never Stop Dreaming, and for every tear, there will be two smiles

Sorry... Cass, you asked me to Telegram you but have no idea how to do it. Am 71! I guess you could not find that video with title: My 5500 Gallon Rain Barrel System from Simplify Gardening. I guess he changed the title. I searched for the content and found it under title 20 Rainwater Tips That Any Gardener Can Use - Beginner Or Pro

Good things take time, it doesn't matter what it is, it takes time to be good. But what is needed is a structured and organised priority list and plan. On any block of land, follow the basics: 1. Access. 2 Purpose. 3. Water..4.. Security for yourself and your property including livestock. 5. Management plan including strategic management plan for property. 6. Fencing and livestock management. 7 Skills assessment. 8. Vegetation and livestock management. 9. Alternative methods. 10. Opportunities.

here is the thing, if you still have your wander lust, with a trusted neighbor and a specific list of daily /bi-weekly, weekly things that need to be done, on the homestead, that you can compensate them with either money or barter,... who says you cant go for a week for semi local travel?

I'm a fairly new viewer who never saw you during your van life. Rather I searched KZfaq for info on Tennessee and that's how I found you both. I've been living in my van since 2013 and you hit on a lot of good points about the pros and cons. After so many years living in my van I'm ready for something new and am moving to Tennessee. I'm looking forward to a new way of life. But like you I won't be selling my van. It's been my home for 11 years and I just can't bring myself to do it. Kudos to you both and hoping your garden is flourishing! Winter gardens are always tougher than summer ones so I'm hoping you reap the rewards of your hard labor this summer 😉

Security is what comes to mind first. If you own your own land you can grow your own food without depending much on the grocery store. The food can be much healthier too.

I felt the same about wanting a project and a purpose over ft rv life. I'm close enough to some nice cg's and lakes that I feel that I can get away often enough to still feel like I can go camping. Not boondocking, but enough of that environment (during the week) to get another source of peace. No animals yet. Maybe rabbits at a point in time.

Thanks for this one. It's safe to say the honeymoon faze of traveling has worn off. I totally understand the longing for community. Lately, I've been thinking of an apartment or even buying something. Whether it be land of a house. Not for homesteading. I live that through you. Lol. At the same time, Idk if I'm ready to come off the road yet. I miss the stability of friends, but im still having a blast out here. It's nice to hear someone else talking about it. Makes it a little less lonely.
