We were at the Gravely Dealer Summit this week as Blake was telling me his story and I had to record it and share it with others. Blake grew his company to two million dollars a year but he had to work all the time. He says he wasn’t even making much money because his expenses were so high. One night his wife called him and said she can’t take his absence anymore and she was going to stay with her parents. He was trying to grow his business to make his family proud but all they wanted was time with him. I think every entrepreneur needs to hear this and decide what size and type of company do you want. Do you want to be happy or a slave to your business? Very powerful stuff!

Pete, you are an awesome and inspiring man of God. I am subscribed to your channel and thank all of the God serving you tubers out there. I own a construction company and it is such a mental break for me to watch these lawn videos and try some of these things on my own yard here in MS. Thank you all and may God continue to pour out His blessings on you all!

Biggest company does not mean the BEST. Strive to be known for the "best at what you do", NOT the "biggest company". My story is similar, more employees does not mean more money. Hire employees that fit your scoop of work, pay GOOD wages, emphasize with them when needed, BUILD RAPPORT W/CUSTOMERS!!!!**Charge solid pricing. DO NOT UNDER SALE. Lastly Family First. Good vid!

Thanks Blake and Blake, for this video. Such a great message from someone that has been there and done that. Really puts things into perspective. I'm only beginning part-time lawn care, as I'm nearing retiring from my career job, and hope to make lawn care a less stressful, full time gig in a few years, if I can make it work. I doubt I'll chase anything other than a small operation at this point in life, but great points made. God is good!!!

My experience is 98% the exact same. Over 1.7m with 25 employees. Construction and maintenance. When you grow your focus is meeting milestones and the growth. Most of the time you don’t make much during that process. Last year after realizing the burden to my family, the balance of efficiency and cost, many 20 hour days weekly. I closed up sold some clients and moved my model to me being the lead, running 2-4 guys 2 teams. This year I hit like 550k. Paid myself over 200k and paid 100k in debt. Home every day by 5pm don’t work weekends and wake up like 8am leaving the house at like9. Work life balance - efficiency loss control. Family first. Real business owners who have met the 750-1m+ thresholds are on a different field of hustle

I don’t think chasing a big company is “ego”. I think it’s wanting to win. Being an entrepreneur your in the game and you keeping score. That’s the whole point. There’s definitely nothing wrong with downsizing. I just think it’s up to the individual and also I would look down on anyone wanting to go big or anyone wanting to go small. Multiple ways to skin the cat.
