Please keep Alan reviewing shoes! I love the simplicity, the important takes, and in-depth review. There are so many shoe reviewers and it just seems too much however Alan just nails it on the spot! Thank you REI!

Already purchased my pair since weeks ago and I LOVED IT! Highly recommend to all hikers out there.

Just to clarify - through hikers are replacing their shoes periodically on trail. Yes, they usually wear a pair longer than recommended just due to the lack of resupply points on trail, but they are not wearing the same pair for 1800+ or 2100+ miles. Typical replacements are about every 500 miles.

Love this review and love the lone peaks! I used them on my first thru and never looked back. Please have Alan make more videos- he is so knowledgeable! On a side note I saw Alan at the REI flagship store in Seattle but was too shy to say hello 🥺.

I enjoyed this video. I have both LP 4.5 and 5s. The 4.5 was fantastic but the sole gave out early (I'm 6'4" 220+). The 5 I'm still wearing and does better but there is just something about it that I don't like as much as the 4.5. Appreciate the deep dive to the nuances of the shoe and will be picking some up with my REI dividend! As someone else mentioned, throw the Vibram lite sole and these and you might have a PERFECT shoe!

I honestly love the lonepeak series, i switched to the shoe from just using regular nike running shoes when i got a bit more serious into hiking and outdoorsy stuff sometime last year and been in love with it since. I honestly use this for hiking and when i travel abroad now and it has work wonder from rainy forest to dry az dessert this shoe can handle it give it a try :)

Stopped by my local REI today to look at Salomon's but the fit wasn't great at the ankle. The Salesman suggest I try the Lone Peak 6. The fit was amazing and I walked out with the same color Alan is holding.

I'm happy to see that they are making them tough again. The last ones I had were the line peak 3.5s because they fit well and when they went on sale I bought a few pairs. They have outlasted my old altra Timp 2s by a lot. With the Timp 2s I was rotating between two pairs and they both tore out on the inside of the shoe ahead of the arch and behind the ball and about two days apart. Amazing timing. If the lone peak is tougher I welcome it. The Timps lasted only a little over a month for me per pair which wasn't that great in my opinion.

I've run, hiked, and hunted in the LP 4.5 and 5. I thought the 5 was a bit sloppy across the top of my foot and they don't drain as well as the 4.5. Sounds like Altra is addressing both with the 6.

LP6 corrects some of the flop I felt in the 5, better fit for me (about same size in toebox too) but the MaxTrac really needs some work or just slap that VIBRAM Litebase on it and call it a day; still dangerous on ice/snow/wet.

I had to size up to a 10.5 wide LP6 from a 10.5 LP5. Otherwise, super. Just as good as LP5s.

great video. would you recommend the LP6 for someone with a low arch and kind of narrow midfoot? and how would you describe the shape of the Superior5 in comparison to the LP6? (I dont do longer stuff than 15 Miles and cushion isn't my first concern)

The lateral support on the stocks Lone Peaks is horrible. I over pronate and couldn’t get more than 100 miles out of a pair. However, with the addition of a pair of Superfeet Trailblazer insoles, the Lone Peaks became a near perfect shoe. Mileage went up to 500 on a pair before the mesh in the toe-box blew out, with still plenty of useable tread. Note, REI sells the wide sizes in Altras too.
@helpfulcommenter
@helpfulcommenter 2 жыл бұрын
doesn't adding insoles to a pair of zero drop shoes pretty much defeat the purpose?

Excellent review. I guess I was just looking for some reassurance, I just ordered my first pair of Lone Peaks. I'm not hugely adventurous, but my current running shoe rotation doesn't include anything that'll keep my feet dry and warm during hikes and runs this fall/winter. I went with the Alpine version, which have a bit more of a casual look. Any truth to the rumors about the LP 7 being pricey as well as heavier as its predecessor?

if you're main concern is traction then try salomon speedcross or saucony peregrine.... they put lone peaks to shame

Why, o why Altra, did they delete the metal gaiter hook?!? My favorite feature in both the low and midrise models which I own for running, hiking, hunting, you name it. I’m buying up all the Lone Peak 5 I can find in my size so I’ll have the hooks as long as possible. I really, really hope they bring that back in the 7.
@yichispiritual
@yichispiritual Жыл бұрын
You can hook it onto the shoe lace itself and not sure why metal is needed? Also metal adds weight

Is the tongue thinner in Lone Peak 6? Altra seems to be making thinner tongues (Torin 4 is lightly padded and comfortable; Torin 5 is thin, stiff, and IMO uncomfortable). Is this only to reduce manufacturing costs or do some actually find thin tongues comfortable? Thanks for the review! ..Mike

how wide is the toebox compared to the 5 and 4.5?
@andymytys
@andymytys 2 жыл бұрын
REI sells the wide sizes as well, so if you were looking for something wider they’ve got you covered. If you didn’t like the amount of room in the toe-box on previous models, you might still want something narrower than the standard width. I’ve always felt the roominess in the toe-box of the Lone Peak was part of the attraction.
@robopecha
@robopecha 2 жыл бұрын
no. the toebox. not the shoe. read the question before you answer. i am not interested in what you like i dont want to chat with people here. i want to know whether the toebox is narrower, the same or wider. a one word answer would be perfect. how is this so hard to not get harassed by idiots here.
@rei

Alan says, "The 6 feels a little less roomy, but mostly from an overall volume and length standpoint!" Hope that helps.

@@rei thank you! :) i feel like starting with the 4.5 the toebox got narrower or less stretchy with each new model. i wish they wouldnt do this and just keep it the same.

I don't get the zero drop hype. I tried some on today and they were awful. But I'm a salsa dancer and have been wearing 3" heels for the last 25 years, I guess they're for dudes or whatever.

You have to use them for a few weeks get used to them then your legs become stronger . Just trying them on isn’t a fair review. When I first wore the ones I have they made my legs and feet hurt and I couldn’t walk so fast or far. But now I’m running in them just as fast if not faster than the elevated type of running shoes I used before. If I don’t get injuries as often as with traditional running shoes I won’t be returning to the standard running shoes
