In Monaco in 1973 I went to the post office to mail a race poster home, and there was a BRM crew member in the queue ahead of me and I said, “You’re looking good here with Regazzoni”, and he said, “Keep your eye on Lauda . . .”. Four years later I was present for Lauda’s last victory with Ferrari, at Zandvoort.

One man cheated death because the other pushed him so relentlessly to get back in the car. The other....chasing life for equally compelling reasons. The ending to this movie could change more lives than their own when you really listen to the messages given by both in this riveting ending scene. Both learned from each other. When Hunt tells Niki to stop making racing all about the percentages, you can tell that message resonated...and when Lauda reflects on the kind of life James led, watching him roll down the tarmac, there exists that tiny amount of envy coming from the ever calculating world champ. You could see it in his eyes. The ending cut featuring the legend himself is one of Ron Howard's finest cinematic decisions. So powerful to hear Lauda's words...reflecting on missing his friend. This is an incredible movie, not just for racing fans but for those who appreciate what it takes to win...and to live.

Maxx61 beautifully written, I️ could not agree with you more. You have reassured my faith in people’s ability to not only appreciate great movies but to wonder what they have to say about life, and in turn what can be learned from them.

Hunt was a big baby that throw away his life, family, and any sense of responsibility for cheap sex, drugs, alcohol and a good time.
@Maxx6110 ай бұрын
@@RK-um9tu Clearly it was Hunt's goal to live life on HIS terms, which ran so contrary to that of Lauda's, the consummate pro that it would seem improbable elements of jealousy existed between them. I'm sure there were times where James told himself greater success might have come his way had he been more methodical in how he approached racing and in Nikki's case perhaps there existed a bit of jealousy in how Hunt relished life. A great many would find a life chasing booze, women and the next thrill to be a life well lived. It has to be written that while both made their money driving cars at speeds so terrifying most would struggle to understand the logic behind it, one left that daredeviltry on the track and the other brought it home with him.

Niki Lauda: When I was in hospital. The toughest part was pumping the shit out of my lungs. While in there I was watching television. Watching you win all my points. James Hunt: Your points? Niki Lauda: I remember thinking I hate that guy. Then then the doctor comes over and asks can I offer a piece of advice? Stop thinking of it as a curse to be given a enemy in life. It can be blessing to. A wise man learns more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.

Only very few films can make you almost become the characters portrayed. When I watched Rush, I was Nikki for a moment and James for the next! I think we all have a Lauda and a Blunt in us. The urge to go over the edge at times and the urge to listen to logic at others. Life is, in my experience, a collection of split second decisions. Much like in Motorsport. Some are lauded as heroic and others bluntly mocked as untimely. An absolute beauty of a movie with excellent acting, great dialogue and of course Hans Zimmer!

If you didn't already follow the sport, how could you watch this and not fall in love with Formula 1? Sure it's a borefest Verstappen victory parade every raceday right now, but you get years like 2021, or 2016, or 2008, or most of the 80s, or here 1976, where there is no greater season-long drama in a sport anywhere else in the world.

If Nikki really wanted Hunt to return for another year, he wouldn't have come at him like this. He would have challenged him by saying that he wouldn't be a true champion until they finished another season. He could have leveraged him back into the car by telling him that everyone knows his win was just luck because Nikki crashed out. If everyone told Hunt that he would never be a true champion until he beat Nikki Lauda, there wouldn't have been anything that could have kept him off the track.

Should've been nominated but of course liberal Hollywood doesn't nominate movies that don't have anything to do with LGBT, African Americans, muslims and feminists. But The ending was pure gold. It shows that niki was a very smart man who used logic and reasoning and thought that happiness was an emotion that weakminded people get taken over by. And who was the one that died from living such a risky and immature lifestyle? The infamous, partying, drug using, James hunt. Truthfully, in real sense, Niki Laudawas the one that actually won
