Yeah, exactly. The fans are very enthusiastic in those countries. They sing the mellody like a one man. So in unison. It´s a progressive rock instrumental and they sing along like it was a big radio hit. But Rush can groove. It grooves like crazy and the mellody is catchy. And not every progressive band grooves so much.

The Morse Code was at the very beginning: first, it was Neil tapping it very faintly on a cymbal or other metallic percussion piece. Then, when Geddy and Alex come in hard, they are playing the same riff over and over, which is "YYZ" as it is heard from the Pearson International Airport (Toronto) radio beacon. The three band members are from the Toronto area and that sound over the cockpit radio meant they were headed home to see their loved ones. The 3-letter code for that airport is YYZ, which is what they put on your luggage if you're flying there. The music is meant to express the feelings you get when you are at an airport: the frantic hustle and bustle, the Middle Eastern sounding guitar solo representing the exotic destinations, then the melancholy synthesizer section which represents both the sadness of travelers leaving their loved ones behind but also the warm, loving feeling of greeting loved ones as they exit the plane. Once you know what it's about, you can almost see the scenes in your mind as you listen to the music.

YYZ is the indicator code for the Toronto International Airport. Alex Lifeson the guitarist is also a licensed pilot and was flying them back to Toronto when Geddy and Neil heard it and it stuck with them. They were always h.appy to see YYZ on their luggage as it meant they were heading home to their families. You two are adorable together ! ❤❤ Other Songs The Trees from Exit Stage Left Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour Natural Science from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto Analogue Kid from the Time Machine Tour Cheers 🇨🇦

Crazy my Lady?! NO. You are just showing and feeling the emotion that music brings...more to the point RUSH. What you are showing is what I felt buying my first RUSH album in 1977. I had never heard of them at the time, but saw the album cover of their live album, "All The World's A Stage." I had just started playing drums and had never seen a drum set like Neil Pearts. I had to hear what he sounded like...changed my life.

Not long after WWII, there were so many airports around the world that it was decided that a three-letter code would be adopted and assigned for each airport around the world. For some bizarre reason, the Canadians decided not to fight for three letter codes to match the names of their major airports (e.g. TOR for Toronto, MON for Montreal, or VAN for Vancouver). Instead, they decided to take all of the "Y" codes. Thus, Toronto's main airport became "YYZ," Montreal's became "YUL", and Vancouver became "YVR." One day, after they had finished recording in a rural studio near Montreal, the boys from Rush flew back to Toronto. At the time, the guitarist, Alex, was learning how to pilot small aircraft. Thus, they found themselves approaching Toronto's airport when they heard the morse code for YYZ. It sounded cool to them, so they decided to base a song on it. At the very beginning of the song, you hear Neil hitting a triangle. What he's doing is tapping out YYZ! With the rest of the song, the band was trying to give us a musical feel for what it feels like to be at/in a busy international airport (specifically: Toronto's Pearson International Airport, code named YYZ).

Some say that music can bring out emotions so real as to bring about feelings never felt before. If you want to experience this you must listen to Limelight. The guitar solo is the epitome of life on the road, missing family and friends. And as a side note, this sing changes time signature at least 12 times. Check it out.

This is the tip of the iceberg. I like directing newer fans to the lyric-video of "Marathon". The musicianship combined with the brilliant poetry it what made Rush, Rush in a lot of people's books. Early Rush songs are just some sci fi or fantasy things like every Prog Rock band from the 70's did. By the mid 80's Rush matured as musicians and Neil Peart (drummer and lyricist) as a poet.

Excellent analysis. Rush was always complex so it wasn't super popular which is fine. Critics hated them for the longest time until late in their career when ALL the other great bands from that era were long gone. Rush continued on and as Trent Reznor said, he felt fhey were on a "righteous path" which is both a great thing to say and a helluva compliment. Wonderful seeing your enthusiasm and recognizing how talented all three guys are. Rush were the last of their kind but people will learn, listen and admire them forever. Not many musical artists can say that.

Rush had put out three albums that went no where and were about to be dropped by the record label. The label demanded a hit album. Rush didn't want to do that and instead if we are going out we will put out the album we want. 2112 was not only the album title but one side of the album. Call it the shot heard round the world if you want it started it all. As a note: There are lots of hits from the first albums. Some songs they played till the last show. RIP Neil.

With that said, review the rest of the songs from the first side of their album from 1981 Moving Pictures. You've done Tom Sawyer and YYZ so check out Red Barchetta and Limelight and The Camera Eye from side two. Moving Pictures was brilliant from beginning to end and is arguably considered their masterwork.

Rush is one of my favorite bands along with Camel, in this type of progressive music, and this is one of the craziest recitals I've seen of Rush, great Canadian musicians. I also include here Triana, a Spanish group. It should be noted that Rush on his tours has reached my country Chile, with his tremendous music, where his drummer helped in a collection for the Chilean Red Cross, in approximately 2010 due to the event of the miners trapped by a landslide. Within what could be called a branch of progressive music is rock with Andean and Latin American roots, from a group that has been making music of this type since the 60s, they are called Los Jaivas, who have an extensive repertoire of very good, highlighting their originality for the use of ethnic instruments and almost their own authorship, since they modified some to obtain the sound they wanted. From Los Jaivas that I suggest you listen to for the first time is 'Mira Niñita', and if you like it I can recommend other songs, such as 'La Conquistada', 'La Poderosa Muerte', 'Aguila Sideral', 'Tarka y Ocarina', 'Guajira Cosmica', 'Corre Que te Pillo' etc etc. Los Jaivas. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q-CUlpN0ntadmGg.html Mira Niñita (Video Oficial) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNCTqJmGvcvRmGw.html La Conquistada kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJeed7p_yMi7cYU.html La Poderosa Muerte kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7Wjf6yal7_LcYU.html Sube a Nacer Conmigo Hermano Thxs for the Reaction.
