If patient have FPD in 3 tooth in 2nd quadrant and 2 tooth in 1 Quadrant then my doubt is that should we count this FPD in russel periodontal index and ginngival index

Can we record Russel’s periodontal index, if any tooth/teeth is/are missing?Is it mandatory to record this index, only in case radiographs are available?(Score 4 denotes this), but overall what are the criteria during which this index should be recored?If patient has chronic apical periodontitis, should we record this index?Kindly explain please.🙏🏻

Answer for 1st question - if teeth are missing then divide the total score by no. Of teeth present and examined Answer for 2nd question - radiographs are not mandatory, but you cannot give a score of 4 without a radiograph Answer for 3rd question - apical periodontitis is not a periodontal condition as such, as it is a sequel to pulpitis there fore Russell index is not needed in apical periodontitis

Why did russell didn't use 3 and 5 in scoring criteria ?

Russell's scores correlate to stages of periodontal disease in an epidemiological survery. That is score 2 denotes stage 2 and so on... Stage 3 and stage 5 were not assigned any scores by Russell.
