2 жыл бұрын

In the final years of the First World War, the Russian Empire was coming to its end. It had been devastated by revolution and finally transformed into the first Communist country in the World. In the years following the Revolution, non-Russian nations that lived under the House of Romanov sought to secure their long-lost independence. One of these was Ukrainе. From 1917 until 1921, the Ukrainians had struggled to build and secure an independent country, fighting against the new regime, against their neighbors in the west, and also among themselves.

And I would love to visit. Ukraine, Americans are learning true freedom from you. The flag of pride and freedom is your flag, and when the peace comes I will come as I am. I am one of many, but right now I do what I can for you. I do not expect anything, but one simple wish. I wish to walk the streets of a prosperous and free Kyiv, with no schedule and the sounds of childrens' laughter and the guitars of street performers. I long to have my hardest decision be "What should I have for lunch?" and followed by fretting over a dressing on a salad. But right now, this war is more important. If what I do saves even one life, then I will be proud. 2008 was my darkest hour and I fully intend on being of use for winning this war. People now see my past and recognize my pain. I detest Russia's leaders as much as you do. It pains me that the foreign language I first learned in school was Russian. And it fills me with pride to see that Ukraine, a nation of peace is the mouse fighting the Russian lion. The mouse is the wiser one, as the lion may be brutal but he is ultimately a fool. What matters in life and death is courage. Слава Україні! Героям слава! Mar.

In Finland, people have started protesting invasion of Ukraine (2022) by singing song based on poem, which our national poet Eino Leino wrote in support of Ukraine independence struggles in 1917. The song is called Terve Ukraina (eng. Hello Ukraine). This has been the poet's less known poems/songs, but has FOR CERTAIN REASON become more widerly known.

While I always enjoy these videos, it was rather difficult for me personally to keep up with how the geography played into the progression of this part of history. A map was only shown once or twice in this video. More maps would definitely help illustrate where the battles were taking place and how the outcomes of each affected the geography. So much happened in such a short span of time and was so pivotal to the history of Ukraine. The biggest take away from this video is that independence and freedom is ingrained in the history of Ukraine.

Essentially it was similar to the US pulling out of vietnam but the land disputes are similar to the 38th parallel between north and south Korea where territories previously under north korean control went to South Korea and vice versa in order to make the border straight across the 38th parallel. The polish were fighting the soviets on their own soil, and the soviets decided to go to negotiations with poland. Poland was in ruins by the soviet invasion in 1920 so they werent in a position to repel further soviet invasions so they were forced to just accept a peace treaty with the soviets and unfortunately werent able to further fight on Ukraine's behalf. Also the lands poland tried to claim from ukraine were previously polish lands that were not returned to poland after poland was divided by 3 countries and completely off the map for over 100 years

@@irkeria7597 That is a good question. Personally, I believe most wars are started due to a leader's need for (I am not sure how this translates into Russian) "Big penis energy". World War 1 was started because multiple men wanted to prove their big penis energy. This war (and yes, it is a war) between Russia and Ukraine started because one man wanted to prove he had big penis energy: Vladimir Vladomorivich Putin.

@@irkeria7597 And I hasten to disappoint you too, irkeria. Sometimes, things are simpler. Sometimes, it's simply the desire of a 69-year old man full of nostalgia for his country's glory days and a desire to be remembered that makes him do things like claim neighboring countries are illegitimate, invade without just cause, bomb Holocaust memorials, etc. When Russia decides to stop pursuing violent methods of "big penis energy" and decides to join the world, everyone shall prosper.

The Ukrainian War of Independence was a series of conflicts involving many adversaries that lasted from 1917 to 1921 and resulted in the establishment and development of a Ukrainian republic, most of which was later absorbed into the Soviet Union as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic of 1922-1991. The war consisted of military conflicts between different governmental, political and military forces. Belligerents included Ukrainian nationalists, Ukrainian anarchists, Ukrainian Bolsheviks, the forces of Germany and Austria-Hungary, the White Russian Volunteer Army, and Second Polish Republic forces. They struggled for control of Ukraine after the February Revolution (March 1917) in the Russian Empire. The Allied forces of Romania and France also became involved. The struggle lasted from February 1917 to November 1921 and resulted in the division of Ukraine between the Bolshevik Ukrainian SSR, Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia. The conflict is frequently viewed within the framework of the Southern Front of the Russian Civil War of 1917-1922, as well as the closing stage of the Eastern Front of the First World War of 1914-1918.
