The way she pronounced the word колобок, sounds like she's telling me to shut up in Brazilian Portuguese "cala boca" (shut your mouth), and I not going to lie, I laughed when I first opened the video and was listening to the history, because I felt like those silly elementary school children who laughs at fart jokes and things like that. I had fun, this is what language learning should be for all of us, and it is for me. I learned English fluently by having fun while playing video games, and now I found this channel because of her review of the new penguin Russian course, and I just ordered from Amazon like she herself mentioned, and in a few years I'm going to surely achieve fluency in Russian, and I'll learn Mandarin afterwards. I fell in love with this channel! You're doing a top notch service for the self taught language learners community! Language learning is a hobby of mine that I do it daily. I'm subscribed to the channel and I'll watch all your videos. This is Dalton Melo, I'm 27 years old, and I live in the the northerner state called "Pará" in a city capital called "Belém". Thanks very much for this charming story, Kristina. Are some of these words obsolescent or rarely used in modern conversational Russian? That is something I have come across in some of Pushkin's tales.

Yes, definitely. The story contains some outdated words and grammar constructions - сусек, сени, остудить, etc. This is common for all folk tales and Russian classics in general, not only for Pushkin´s work. The older the book, the more outdated the language. Recently I tried to adapt one of Pushkin´s stories for my students, and I had to re-write petty much every single sentence. The language was so outdated! At the end I quit in the middle because it was too much work, like writing my own book.
