I'm Greek and a polyglot. I speak fluently 4 languages and have been learning Russian for a year and a half. It is probably the most difficult one, but I love it and see it as a challenge to achieve fluency. I also love to write it - it's similar to Greek, but also so different. A really cool language and is spoken/understood in so many Eastern countries.

I’m so impressed with Fedor’s obvious commitment to his learners. He’s just a natural teacher! I started learning when lockdown first happened - wasn’t too sure at first but Fedor’s enthusiasm helped to keep me going. We’ve just started a U3A (University of the 3rd Age) group in Plymouth (UK), but we’ll only meet fortnightly, so these videos will be the mainstay of any progress I make towards being able to communicate in Russian. It would be nice to have contact with Russian speakers, but this is pretty impossible at the moment! Keep up the good work, Fedor, and thanks for the inspiration!

However, a lack of good resources to learn grammar is killing me. Then I discovered Fedor on this channel. Удачи, мужик! Я не из России, но научился свободно по русски и ты сможешь. Вот правда я из Украины, в моем городе все по русски говрят, с детства меня учили русскому, а не украинскому, поэтому я скорее учил украинский язык в школе, а русский и так знал, но мне приятно видеть как иностранцы изучают язык на котором я говорю всю жизнь. Русская грамматика вовсе не сложная, а слова можно ставить в любом порядке. Кстати, откуда ты, если не секрет?

So I figured it would be cool to talk to them in their language. They spoke perfect english but I wanted to learn a new language and this was as good as any time to learn. And now the little I have learned. Now I have some Russian buddies who are very cool and I talk to them almost every day so thank you for what you do.

Oh this is bringing back memories! 1981 I took over my brother's basement apartment and I met my Russian landlords, Susan and Misha. They had a 9 year old daughter Annie who was totally bilingual. I could actually read a first grade book. Well all that faded through the years and all I remember was yes, no, thank you, and goodbye. For me being a little hearing impaired the endings of Russian words kinda to me run together unlike French or Spanish. But I'm going to save this and try to learn these words. It'll help me with listening and trying to get every sound. Susan was the one trying to teach me and she was very patient. Then they moved. On my father's side I'm part Russian amongst other things.

It's incredible to see how many words in russian sound and mean something similar in spanish or other languages. Makes you think about all the intersections our cultures have had over millenia of development. Spanish, for instance, has over 4000 words that come from arab, beeing the second most influential language after latin for it.

"Здрастье" сильно отличается от "здравствуйте", первое очень фамильярное и в некотором роде пренебрежительное, и его не следует использовать, если хочешь оставить хорошее впечателение о себе. В обычной повседневной речи при общении с людьми, которые не являются близкими и с которыми вы сохраняете уважительный тон, нужно говорить только "Здравствуйте"
@Yaroslav_Rus

I was watching this while messaging a Russian friend (he uses a translator to message me in English, but I want to be able to talk to him without him needing a translator) and I said, «Спокойной ночи» and he responded with, “Good night.” Interestingly, a similar thing happened a while back when my German grandmother got surgery. (She immigrated to the USA several years ago but still doesn’t know English.) The anesthesiologist said, “Gute nacht” and she responded, “Good night.” before falling asleep.
