Thank you! I am American and in my small state (Vermont) we have about 100 Russian students work at a resort each year (before COVID). They always impressed me and I want to visit Russia. I am a bit worried because I was a soldier for 27 years, but man, what a huge country. I want to see St. Petersburg and do the Trans Siberian Railway. Thank you for your kind efforts.

Thank you Elina. My native language is English. I learned Russian from my mother as a child. The next languages I learned were Spanish and Portuguese which both have formal and informal conjugations (tu, usted, voce, o senhor). When I spoke to my mom I was always addressed as Tbi and addressed her and my uncles back as Bbi. When I learned Spanish, it was among friends so I learned the informal first. It was tricky at first because the same conversation would be spoken a different way depending on who you are talking to. But then i remembered the formal and informal in Russian so I had something to reference. I always say that language and culture go hand and hand. You can't understand the culture until you understand the language and you can't understand the language until you learn some of the culture. Saludos desde Texas.

Informal seems easier. Looks like I'll have to make a lot of friends. I am learning Russian because I want to travel all around Russia and the former USSR countries. I just hope the US and Russia could get along like their people (us) do. We won't have to deal with those pesky visas then! Love the lessons, Elina.

I started to learn elementary Russian language during 1 year because a project to Perm, where I received drawings in English/Russian. Hereafter in 1993 I went alone to Moscow for ab.1 week, but it was difficult for me with my poor Russian because english was not so common at that time. OK I visited Bolshoi Theatre, sailed on Moscow River, Museums, Metro, ect. and saw that Russian people had photos outside Mc Donalds in Arbat and western music was obviously new and popular. Since that many visits in Russia and I like the people, culture, food, ect. and I think that nowadays it is very important that people learn each other between countries, which make a more friendly world.

I must agree with one of the comments below that if words could be articulated a tad slower, it would be absolutely fantastic. Especially to get the pronunciation right between "o"'s and "a"s for example (noob alert). Really love your videos, though. Thank you. Informal is what I'm accustomed to hearing. My great grandmother was Polish and did not speak English. We were not taught. I later in life worked with Russian and Ukrainian's and heard them speak it and seemed to understand some (the Ukrainian not so much) . I learned the basic phrases and out of respect would greet my crew with good morning in Russian I live in Vancouver Washington, and there is a large Russian community here. I am working in a bank and I want to learn Russian to better assist the Russian only speaking community.

Great refreshing of my poor Russian knowledge from classes in 1968 and 1969. I learned Russian because in the east most people use it as lingua franca. Unfortunately the polish people could speak Russian well but they were unhappy to converse in Russian. They preferred English. Though Russian is a challenge it is attractive to learn the language of Tolstoi, Mendeleiev, Kurchatov and Landau, to name a few of very many outstanding personalities from Russia.

Priviet, Elina! Thank you for this first Russian lesson! I have a suggestion for improvement: It would be better to show the Russian words longer, so that persons who are not used to the cyrillic script have more time to decode the words without having to stop the video each time. Apart from that, the video is great! I can´t wait to see more of it! Greetings from Vienna, Austria! Paka!
