Great advice on the blackberries. I am surrounded by wild blackberries, but intend to prune and transplant them, so I guess I'd better get on it! Also, we grew up in the Midwest, and never had a/c. We went to the lake a lot to cool off. We survived even the hottest days in the water and shade. Now that I live in North Carolina, I simply don't run a/c (I'm off grid anyway, so have limited solar power). I get a little hot in the afternoon, but am comfortable the rest of the time if house/windows are closed down to trap in morning cool temps.

Just a warning about transplanting blackberries. Be sure you put them where you will always want them. I planted some wild blackberries at the back of my property and regretted it. Now I can’t get rid of them. I also planted some thornless blackberries in two different locations, one of which didn’t work out and 8 can’t get rid of the, either. They grow very deep and sturdy roots that are pretty impossible to dig out.

About 22 years ago my son was a baby (under a year). He was scratching and pulling at his ears. Dr. Ship was our small town doctor and he was in his 70s. I my son to see him. He looked in ear and said he has an ear infection take him home and pour a cap of peroxide in his ears. Surprised I asked, No antibiotic? He said, no! Because he’s little do it a couple times per day. But he said if you get an ear infection leave the peroxide in till it quits bubbling (you can hear it) then drain it out. We swim in a 2 acre pond on the farm that the horses drink from. It totally works too!

I was a kid with very narrow ear canals. I did trick skiing, and Free Deep Water Diving... Swimmers Ear for me was horrible. It would get so bad, I actually have a hole in my eardrum from an infection. {We didn't complain much as kids}When I became a young teen, I found about alcohol at 91% & 6% vinegar. I've never had an ear infection since. I didn't mix them, but used an old syringe to shoot the alcohol into my ear, to displaced the water. Within minutes, my ears were dry! I would only use a small drop of vinegar if I felt trapped water. It's truly a gift from YHWH! The kids look like they're all having fun, and I can see the work doesn't stop on a homestead! May YHWH Bless You All!

I was lucky to be able to study with a woman from China, while I was in Grad School. She didn't use tea bags or a strainer. She drank the loose tea. I still use tea bags; but, I do own the equipment for loose tea leaves. I wish Mom had known about your way of preventing swimmer's ear. I nearly died when I was 12 years old, because of an infection in my left ear. I wasn't allowed to go swimming any more after that; and, I never learned how to swim. Your gardens are beautiful.

Beautiful homestead, beautiful family. Yes, God is good. 😊You can also use rubbing alcohol with a tiny bit of glycerine to keep it from drying out the skin in the ear. Really good video, the remedies are very valid... some of the supporting detail needs adjustment... caffeine free tea is more hydrating as caffeine is a diuretic and makes you lose fluids; heat destroys the enzymes in the honey, the minerals should be fine; some bacteria does live in acid, but the rubbing alcohol should wipe those out. Love your joy! The boys are so cute! Hope that info. is helpful. God bless!!

Hi RuthAnn and sweet family! Thank you for sharing these recipes and remedies with us. I grew up with no air conditioning and as a kid it didn’t really bother me. But once I had air conditioning, I just about melted or so it seemed. It’s what your body acclimates to I guess. That brought back memories of my childhood riding my bicycle and using a clothespin with a card to make a sound when riding the bicycle. Of course we didn’t have a bicycle till I was about 8 years old and it was a second hand, but it was new to me. It was purple (my favorite color) with a banana seat. Thank you again and I hope you and your precious family have a blessed day!

When I was a kid in the 50s, my folks didn't have air conditioning in Northwest WI. When it got hot and humid, we would either grab blankets and pillows and sleep with a fan on in the livingroom on the floor, or sometimes even on tthe cool basement floor on a thin mattress. We drank a lot of Kool Aid with lemon added. I like Redbush and Honeybush tea too because it has lots of antioxidants. And it's good cold.

You have such a beautiful family and such a lovely farm. Your videos bring back so many wonderful memories for me. I just love watching you taking care of your children and your day-to-day life. I grew up in the Los Angeles area until I was 13 and my parents decided that they were going to move to the valley and live on a homestead. We always had a big backyard garden and my parents canned vegetables. I used to sell tomatoes door to door in my neighborhood. This was the early 1970's. But I had no idea that my dad knew how to care for farm animals. It was all new to us 3 kids. He bought 75 baby chicks, a Jersey milk cow, and 3 piglets, later came the ducks, and 2 steers. My mother processed the cream and made butter and it was incredibly delicious. The collecting eggs and 2nd milking of Nosey was my job. And I loved every minute of it. I even had an egg stand my dad made for us so I could sell eggs out in front of our house. I am a new subscriber but have been watching your video's and just love them so much. Thank you.

Milking cows morning and evening pouring milk into large metal cans and putting these cans into a tank of cold well water in the milk room. It was my job to clean the milk separator which had about 100 parts to clean (not my favorite job). God bless!

Your tea is a form of switchel. It's a type of drink that has been used for centuries to recover from hard work. It's best served cold. The Townsends channel has a good video on it. Enjoy!
