ARGH! OK, I honestly couldn't understand the comments about this looking as though it has a filter on it because it looked fine on my iPhone. In a bigger format it is SO BLURRY! My apologies. On my laptop in the editing software it is pin sharp, so I don't know whether something happened when I made the file size smaller for upload.. Sorry. It's almost painful to watch on a big screen!

Effaclar Duo saved my face a month ago when it freaked out when i went abroad, into a completely different climate. Although i do use it as more of a spot treatment, many people seem to do the same.

Well without my glasses on everything is blurry and I typically listen to you getting ready for work in the morning so no concerns on my part:). I’ve been doing double cleansing since I found Caroline Hirons. And I just love it! At first I used DIY oil for the 1st step (olive oil and castor oil). At first I was so surprised at how dry my skin was afterwards (too much castor oil). Great point about using a balm/oil for today’s long-wearing products. Ty!

Hi Ruth, I really loved this video; really down to earth and practical skin care advice. TBH, nothing new really but the beauty of your delivery is that it's done in such a Ruth-esque style that I always feel like I learn something new....not necessarily factual or empirical as such but personal and with your own twist. Bit of a rambly comment 😛but lots of appreciation! Oh, and with the hyaluronic acid, I love it madly too (and also use the Indeed Labs one) the one time it's not so advisable - I've heard and am just now experiencing - is if you live in a very dry climate. I've normally lived in humid climates and it's brilliant there but I'm visiting a friend in a northern, quite dry area of Canada now and realise that it's not working for me here and is actually making me drier. So, something to consider :) xo

Since you told me about cleansing balm my skin is great no need for foundation really though I still do a light covering. Wipes just destry good skin in my opinion

You should totally try and do a ‘box’ with your skincare superhero’s in. Even as someone who’s skin reacts badly to salicylic acid (I know, it’s a total pain) I would be all over it!

Thanks for all the great info! I just bought your ColorLab Dry Shampoo and I love it. I have very fine and thin hair and it gave it texture and body. Better than other dry shampoos! On that note, can you talk about your hair products? In particular shampoo. I need a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, but they often dry out my hair. Merci. :)

Rodial stem cell cleanser is a great balm, and smells gorgeous. Not cheap, but I got my pot last Christmas and I've only used half. I take it off with a muslin cloth dampened with tepid water.

If you're looking for a good cleansing balm I really recommend the Heimish All Clean Balm. It's a Korean brand but it's honestly the best thing i've ever used. Never stings my eyes and cleans absolutely everything off in one go!

Helpful video! I love the Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid. I apply it with my hands, not cotton. It actually is also moisturizing.

My love for Effaclar Duo stems from a video you did about 4 years ago. You suggested it then for adult acne, and I haven't looked back. It's my wonder product and was my first venture into French pharmacy skin-care (which felt rather fancy!). Definitely ordering the Paula's choice salicylic acid doofer. Heads up for anyone wanting to get the trial size - it's on offer on the Paula's Choice site for £6 at the minute! X

Here's a possible budget salicylic acid recommendation that I'm trying before anything more expensive, Neutrogena's new Visibly Clear Spot proofing liquid. I'm lucky and don't get too many spots, but I do get bumpy areas of congestion on my forehead. This seems to be working really well and it's nice to use. It also has lactic acid for a bit of AHA exfoliation. It's designed for sensitive skin, which I don't have so can't verify! I'm really pleased with it- it was under £4 in an offer! I'm using it as an alternative to Pixi Glow tonic /Ren

You are looking gorgeous as usual. I have been doing the double cleanse with a balm ,then a cleansing oil and then several rinsed.Would you use an acid on dry skin? You are my beauty Yoda.

Yes, you can use on dry skin. If you have very very dry skin then maybe avoid the ones with alcohol high on the ingredients list (ie Liquid Gold) and go for something like Pixi Glow.

The LRP in the state has benzo peroxide. It’s very much a spot treatment. I like using it around my nose periodically to keep blackheads away

Hi Faith, I use The Ordinary Retionol in Squalane 1%. I began with 0.2% then moved to o.5% and am now on the 1%. I have extraordinarily sensitive and dry skin and thought retinol would be a no no for me but I have had very little reaction to this formula and love it. I have been using it for nearly a year and quite honestly at 58 my skin looks far better. I had a lovely neighbour tell me a couple of months ago that I look like I'm getting younger not older. I wouldn't got near Retin A [Tretinoin] as I know my skin wouldn't tolerate it and I am concerned about it's effect on the liver and kidneys. But The Ordinary retinol I highly recommend. If you don't like retinol in an oil base they have other formulations.

My eye area has become so sensitive recently. I have no idea why but was wondering if you had any suggestions to calm down and moisturise this area as it’s so red and sore at the moment everything seems to sting! Nice round up! Vitamin C would have been my number 1, followed by hyaluronic acid then glycolic acid. I always combine Vit C and Hyaluronic Acid in my morning routine, so found it interesting you wouldn’t?!

Ruth- on your recommendation i have just ordered £60 worth of goods on Look Fantastic. Fingers crossed it works. Past few weeks my skin has been really getting me down..... spot after spot. Great video! Is it dangerous to use hylauronic acid and a vitamin C product at the same time, or merely superfluous? I use a vitamin C serum or cream most nights and I get worried using it after a treatment serum like a retinol, retinoid, Good Genes, etc.

Melissa Elhardt not dangerous, I would just never use two serums as I can’t be arsed. Hyaluronic is in everything from face creams to foundations these days so you can layer it in other ways.. x

Why don't you use hyaluronic acid with vitamun c? I have been in a simple skincare regime for some time now and decided a couple if days ago to buy and stat using exactly those two- hyaluronic acud and vit c. What should i do with them then? Thanks for the reply, i loved the video!

Anascissors I just have them both in serum form and can’t be arsed to layer stuff to that extent! You could use the vitamin c and then a moisturiser rich in HA if you were like me... ;)

Hi Ruth. Love your channel. Thank you for this video! I find it helpful as I too am just starting to understand what benefits products such as these can have for me. In watching one of your other videos, I tried to purchase the medik8 crystal retinal, but because I live in the US, I do not have access to that particular product. I was able to my medik8’s r-retinoate youth activation serum and have been using it for about a month now. I do t have much to compare it to, as this is the first retinal product I have tried. Do you know how this compares to the product you have mentioned or could you possibly provide me any insight to my product? Thanks in advance for any assistance given.

Haven’t tried the serum but the cream, which is about double the price of Crystal 6, is more moisturising and has a more luxurious feel. You don’t need to follow with moisturiser whereas crystal retinal you definitely do.. does that help? X

There is a bha body lotion from Paulas Choice which you can use on your face. It has a lot in it and you save money. Somehow bha doesnt work on my skin 🤷🏻‍♀️

What would you say regarding glycolic or acid toners with eczema cuz I have dry skin but it’s really sensitive and red and when I use them it makes my face sting even if I only use them a couple of times a week x

What’s your take on Lush products? Their Ultrabland cleanser has dramatically improved my skin, I didn’t find that the Effacleur Duo did anything!

I found this so intestesting. I am looking into these. At the mo, I have been using an organic hylauronic acid face cream by Andalou and Rosehip oil. What would you suggest is a good eye cream to firm up the undereye and for fine lines? X

Sonia R love the Drunk Elephant C one, StriVectin retinol one, Zelens, but all v pricey. Cerave do an excellent affordable eye cream. X

See suggestions below, both great, but also UltraBland from Lush! Take a look at the weights though because sometimes the cheaper ones are smaller amounts and price per ml not that different... x

I bought and love Emma Hardie Balm and never found a better cleansing balm think it's the smell. Also liquid gold and prai and La Roche Posey all from watching you. Anything you say is good I take as gospel 😂😂 you haven't let me down yet x

I love Liz Earl Cleanse and polish I have been using for about six years it just melts eye makeup I do double cleanse since I started using this product my skin has been amazing !the serums I use is the ordinary from beauty bay it’s cheap but active ingredients fabulous helping me through the menopause great products then I can splurge on my moisture creams

Dear Ruth, Great and very informative video, as always!!! Just wondering if you have tried Garden of Wisdom - they have Glycolic acid serum 5%, Hyaluronic acid serum, RetiStar Retinol serum 1% ect. and their prices are very affordable but I've never tried anything from that brand and don't know if they are any good?

Am I the only person who doesn't like the smell of EH Balm ? It smells like furniture polish. Very strange.. I did wonder if it was out of date but I used it as soon as I bought it brand new … so I'm guessing not. I really wanted to love it. Such a shame. I have been trying the Paula's choice 1% retinol clinical treatment and my skin really flakes and looks dry a day or so after using it, wondering if the Medik8 formula would be better . Have given up on the Paula's choice now.What do you think?

Pauline Ackerman how often are you using it? Try less often and a very good moisturiser in the areas you need it.

@@elsaafox I started using gradually once a week, then building up and I apply a rich La Roche Possay moisturiser with it ..still flakey skin. I'm thinking it may be too strong for my skin. I was only using it every 2-3 nights.

i m now testing ROC pro correct, which is ROC s range with retinol. roc combines retinol with hyaluronic acid in their creams, so i suppose it is a working combination. till now they are BEAUTIFULL products, perfect for combo skin like mine, and so affordable. i m sorry i didn t know before. i use pro correct serum at night (which is actually like a cream not a serum) and the next morning i use plain vit c serum and a vit c cream (pro renove by ROC) or the 50spf lightweight spot whitening sun block. they are all great products. my skin is glowing after 1 week of use.

I really do want to try that Medik8 product. Caroline Barnes has also spoken about it before. I'm not sure if my skin needs it yet though, since I'm already using so many great skincare products that I love and that are giving me great results. I started using acids about 4 years ago on your recommendation and I'm eternally grateful to you for it. 😘 I don't normally like scrubs either but I did discover the St Ives (Yikes! I know) Oatmeal (NOT THE APRICOT!) 2 in 1 mask and scrub recently. I actually just wanted to use it as a mask because I love Oatmeal and then I lightly massage it into my skin (without applying any pressure) before rinsing it off (no flannel needed for this. It rinses off clean) and boy was I surprised at how amazingly smooth and soft my skin was. I think I'll use it as a weekly treatment moving forward.

I’ve used the Emma Hardy one but saw you used the Clinique one so I purchased that. Which one would you say is best? I found the Emma Hardy broke me out a bit.

April Lane overall? I prefer EH for a luxe experience but in all honestly it’s going down the sink after a few seconds so Clinique is far more practical!!

April Lane I can't get on with the Emma Hardie one at all, it's full of essential oils and perfume, at least Clinique doesn't contain any of that!
