when you use contact cement, you have to apply it to both surfaces you want to bond together, wait for it to dry and then join them. Once both pieces touch, it's stuck so make sure you have them where you want them. You can't use it wet. It has to dry first.

Our rig came with a pvc roof. Amazing difference. Best rv roof we’ve had yet.

A skate wheel type hand roller that's used with flooring like vinyl would help you much better than the squeegee. Take that from a old floor man. Rubber knee pads might help also 😬. Another thing is I'm sure you already know but just incase,, the contact cement works best if applied on both surfaces and let "dry" to where it's just a little tacky then matted together. I'm glad I found your channel. Your honesty is top notch and you do excellent work!

I usually use a pool noodle to smooth it out and it’s always worked great but my kids used it as a sword and broke it and I forgot to buy a new one 😂 I do also think that’s why the contact cement didn’t work is because I only applied it on one side…maybe I’ll re try it again on the next camper

great job! I started searching for repairing the front cap on our fiberglass exterior trailer. Our front cap is so bubbled that I don't think it's repairable so I'm going with new fypon and a 91"X96" flexible panel backer(called PWP) that takes curves(available in one piece from Hemet valley RV, Calif and they ship)and comes pre-laminated. Our local repair shop wanted $7k for the repair...ouch! More than the trailer is probably worth. Thanks for posting your videos!

Let me know how that panel backer is! I couldn’t find it in my area, closest place was 4 hours from me to get a different material 😳

Ok so we had bought a camper from a lady that she wasn’t able to fix anymore she had all the parts needed so we bought the membrane from her that cost me $500 thinking it was the right size, well come too find out it was not BUT it had 2 pieces one that was going to be used for the slide out. We looked at that and it doesn’t need replacing. So question is can we use both pieces somehow together and if so how?

I have one like that, metal framed. I just want to turn it into a mobile bunkhouse for company. Just roll it around my property depending on the season. Weight is no consideration I guess. You think I could redo it with Luke ship lap over the door skinning. Any ideas?

This may be a stupid question, but if only a section of the roof is bad will the entire roof skin need replaced?

I can’t believe the contact cement worked?! It looks like you attached the two pieces without letting it dry. Contact cement that I have worked with always has to dry before you let the two surfaces contact each other. I’m curious what the product actually was. Excellent filming and story telling with your video by the way. This looks worthy of subscribing! (Just did).

I eventually realized it was because I didn’t apply it to both surfaces. Whoops 😂

@@fallenintocamping now you’ve got me curious as to what the better product for gluing the surfaces together is. I know that the epoxy tends to separate under heat with a bit of moisture (along with the plywood layers). My guess is as long as the plywood separates, under those conditions, it probably makes little difference. I am quite enjoying more of your videos now too by the way. Keep up the good work!

You make that look easy. I have to replace the roof on an RV but I feel like it's going to turn out like 12 chimpanzees did it.

Question: Would spray foam insulation on the ceiling work? Or does that have problems?
@fallenintocamping
@fallenintocamping Жыл бұрын
I’ve never thought about spray foam, I’m sure it would work as long as it dosent expand too much. The the R value is also really low so it won’t insulate as well as the loose R-13

This is going to sound dumb, but I’m a complete rookie to it all, so how to you know exactly where to cut for the vents and such without seeing it? I’ve been trying to figure that one out for a while now, so might as well just ask. 😂
@fallenintocamping
@fallenintocamping Жыл бұрын
For the ceiling, I guess and estimate with a pilot hole and then go in with my router with a flush trim bit and finish the rest. For lights, I draw it out and feed them through before putting the ceiling in. I have another video I’ll try to tag you in on ceiling repair
