Woodwright Shop fans unite and grab your tool tote for the trek in the wood to the shop. What you don't have a tool tote? Then this video is for you. Plus I detail a stupid simple method of making compound but joints by hand. No angle charts or compound miter saws necessary. As usual, no electrons were harmed in the making of this project.

I believe Roy built his from diagrams in the book "Problems in Farm Woodwork." You can find PDF files of the book online pretty easy. There's lots of farm-related projects in there like gates and chicken coops, but there's a lot of workshop and home related things in there too. You can tell the book is old when the tool tote is described as "small enough to fit under the seat in a carriage."

wow. that was incredible. I have been building with wood, fiberglass, and carbon fiber for several years. this was complicated (ref: 7:05), yet you made it look so simple. Great job and great tote. I love those tools you use. Subscribed!

I enjoy simple projects myself. I just mentioned it because you usually go whole hog on projects. It's a sweet tote.

Really great tooltote, the video was a bit quick for me to follow, had to watch a couple of times. I wish you went bit slowly and explained more for noobs like myself.

I did put glue on the handle tenon though it isn't necessary. Once the box is assembled there is no way to remove the handle due to the length of the handle and the angle of the tenons.

As you say, it's nice to be able to toss a few tools into a tote to haul them to a small job away from the shop. I have a concern about longer totes, it's easy to have more weight at one end than the other. That's why I prefer a tote with a handle that runs the whole length so you can grab it at the balance point wherever that is. On another note, why didn't you use hopper dovetails like you did on the little chest you built? You did a really nice job on those.

Rebate, rebate, rebate. Puhhhleeease! A rabbit is what I put on a plate and eat! Lol! Thanks for this... Just what I need. Only bigger! Cheers JW.
@RenaissanceWW

Jazzwayze thats why I call it a rabbet not a rabbit. You mean you can't hear the difference in my pronunciation? How 'bout we compromise and call it a filister
@Jazzwayze
@Jazzwayze 9 жыл бұрын
Hey there Renaissance Man. Just a 'play on words'! I think. Must be the old Pond between us that makes the difference! Sure it's a fillister as well. I can't think of thing we eat that could be related to a fillister; unless you count a fillet steak. Thanks for the video again my friend. Keep up the good-woodwork. JW

Jazzwayze it would be interesting to figure out how we colonials managed to mutate the word. I can think of no accent that would make rebate sound like rabbet. If it makes you feel better I still spell mouldings with the U included.

+Jazzwayze You are correct, a rabbit is a furry animal that hides under my spruce trees and eats our tulips, so he may end up on my table if he doesn't find another place to live. The joint discussed here is a rabbet, which is from Old French rabbat, "a recess into a wall," and rabattre "to beat down". I would guess that since we are the great melting pot on this side of the pond that our language is a collection of words and phrases from many languages (UK English, German, French, Spanish, etc,).

5quint1 I made it. Check out my channel and you will find a video on the resaw frame saw, or visit my site and you will find several articles and videos with links to the blacksmith and bladesmith I collaborated with to make the saw. I also added an annotation to this video with a link to the video to make it easier.
