Ryan Gates 311RS Time Attack Evolution X is back at AMS for a refresh to prepare for the 2013 Super Lap Battle finals in November. Ryan's AMS 2.2L Big Bore Crate Engine has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and rebuilt to assure maximum performance and reliability. Here is a time-lapse of his engine block being assembled by our Special Projects Technician Ivan Phipps.

The main thing holding most people back from building their own is tools. I mean micrometer, dial bore gauge etc. i would say more like 90% of us could build most internal combustion engines if you just do your research. And you can take your time, you dont have to do it in three mins lol. Sorry had to..anyway people that have never tried or even know how one works. Give it a shot some time maybe just disassembling an old motor. Once you have the tools then your set for life, and you kinda slowly acquire them along the way. Build it if You break it✌️

GE,T A LIFE more like 90% of us could build most internal combustion engines--YAH IF I HAD TOOLS I COULD BE A DOCTOR. YOU MEAN I STUDIED PURE MECHNAICS, HAD SEVERAL MECHANIC COURSES , WORKED WITH LATHES, MILLS, AND ALSO HAD A LOT OF METROLOGY AND MATERIAL STUDIES. and years of experience ... for nothing... THE FACT IS, 99% OF MECHANICS CANT TECHNICALLY REPAIR AN ENGINE

Absolutely Beautiful! I cant imagine the feeling of anxiety I would have piecing that motor together. To see it transform into an absolute monster...and then ride the monster when your done. Evo = Way Of Life

In the mechanic world ist said. WHAT MAKES A MECHANIC ARE NOT THE TOOLS. So most of you, dont have the idea of waht are talking about. Sometimes this is kind f annboying have to lsiten stupid people saiyng, i can make surgeries caus i have doctor tools.

djm93 you can't. You can only get access too it through all data ($20 for one car for a year). Manufacturers no longer have printed service manuals. It's all online

Dude those pistons are Soo tiny!! Lol I just got done rebuilding my 318 in my Fifth Ave.. been around vintage V8s most my life so I've never really seen the inside of a modern four banger despite having an 08 Lancer.

***** it's a type of liners in some engines that gives maximum cooling to the combustion chamber by having the coolant directly in contact with the cylinder bore. Cause downsides are the coolant can sometimes corrode the engine faster. Upside is you can easily replace the damaged sleeve extending the life of your engine block.

not at all, the right man assembling a motor can do it in a day. if the parts are ready and prepped properly it's simple. I put together a v8 in a day.

Top two comments are right. They should do another without the time lapse and all the specs on the blue print AND commentary. Also those crazy ass sleeves and how this block is different from a 4g. Just curious. Also you guys COULD ship a shortblock to jafromobile. This guy LOVES going over the differences between 1 and 2g dsm's, oil galleries, pumps, even did a complete video on the design of the oiling system.

Because it require precision measurements with extremely expensive tools and the parts alone are about $1500 lol. Plus too many people are too scared to do it themselves. If you're decent at math and have the tools it's not hard, it's pretty relaxing too compared to doing a clutch or swapping an engine lol.

Zachary Palmer good at math all you have to do is measure it and make sure its within the specs it should be.. theres basically no math

Measure what? For PTW you have to measure each piston individually at the skirt, then measure the inside of each cylinder. Say if you want .04" PTW you'd have to hone each cylinder to (OD of piston + .04" = amount you need to hone) For rods and mains you have to measure the big end of the rod, thickness of the bearing x2, and mic the rod journal. The [big end + (bearing thickness x 2)] - rod journal measurement = oil clearance. It's not rocket science but at the same time it's not 5th grade math lol.

99.5 %, and many times the "mechanic" - he sjust read the manual book of the engine, imagine the book just vanish, or it has some errors i would pay to see someone to fix it.
