VIETNAM TSUKA_MAKI

VIETNAM TSUKA_MAKI

5 жыл бұрын

In this video, I used a iaito of Ryan Sword and cut down the tsuka a little bit to make the sword more balance
After that,I thin the tsuka with a small wooden plane, sanding it to smooth and cut in two trench each side to apply the new samegawa
I used the tradition method to wrap the ito so I need a Kusune stick made by resin, vegetable oil and bee wax
I folded many hishigami made by washi paper to wrap in the tsuka, using my awl to wrap and a big clip to hold the ito
In the end, I wrap the ura and omote knot by using 2 thin steel leaf,can cut the soda can and sanding it, tape it to the end of the ito and use it to thread through the knot
And look the result, the tsuka now is tight and good balance for practice, I reuse the old ito so it a little bit dirty, but it still good
Any way, like and subscribe me to see more video and here is my Instagram : / ngochominh

Very beautiful work i had to learn the hard way on how to wrap tsuka-ito by myself by sacrificing one of my tsuka. And then practicing 1000 times meteforicly speaking i don't think people understand how much work this is and how painful it is on the hands. So i say again beautiful work🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

Way better than the factory wrap, but you should use a full same (as rawhide, not tanned) wrap for handle integrity(a world of difference) and a darker color ito so all your hard work doesn't get marred easily by dirt and grime. Put it all on a nice blade and you got something really worth showing off.
@binderdozen

I always wanted to wrap full samegawa but it's because of the budget of my customer :) there're some one I fullwrap and its very strong hold for all the tsuka, I loved it ,added 2 pieces is just for decoration, I still learning and practicing so I'm very appreciate your advice sir :)

plus full wraps on nihonto where just as common as non full wraps i seen more planels on 5k nihonto than full wrap it seems it does not matter to them really just for looks

@@micahcampa clearly you just wanted attention to revive a commentary a year old. In any case it does matter structurally. Educate yourself before wading into the adult's chat.

@@tainowarrior5781 i mean yea can help but in most cases you have to shave down more of the tsuka to put a full wrap on so less strength in most cases unless it is done right and i have educated myself i own 6 nihonto and have studied for 13 years dont know why your so aggressive towards me and i am a adult btw im just pointing out the japanese did not care as much i have seen more than 200 tsuka that where just panels so they where just as common as full wraps i could care less about attention i dont do it for that i do it to teach people that full wraps dont allways means good
@tainowarrior5781
@tainowarrior5781 2 жыл бұрын
@@micahcampa and you have conceded my point. A full wrap is a structurally sound build. Cheap wood is used by these ebay forges and are often cracked and poorly made. A full wrap would add to rigidity and safety in the likely event of tsuka breakage. No one said panels weren't used. I'm done here.

As I don't have the skill to re wrap my handle just yet ( I am still practising ) is there a way to stop discolouration and a white wrap from getting dirty? It only takes me touching the cotton once and it become blackened from oils on my hand, is there something your can recommend so this doesn't happen?
@binderdozen
@binderdozen 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you need some cleaning for your Tsuka and when it clearly you should lacquering it to protect Your ito better and easier to cleaning. You can research the lacquer ito method on googl:)

You can also wear thin cotton cloves however it does make tsuka-maki more difficult to do especially if you do not have the clamping tool you could also try rubber gloves however i have done neither.

what is the purpose of those two little medallions you put under the wrap? Or is it symbolical?

This is Menuki (目貫):The menuki are ornaments on the tsuka (generally under the tsuka-ito); to fit into the palm grip and originally meant to hide the mekugi.
