Best interview I ever heard. I was a die hard who ended up being a wrestler on the circuit and being on the inside 10 years ago, you saw the tide change in wrestling what people and who people thought were cool. I'm glad I had OGs that opened my eyes to the business and made me understand what the business was about. Today, too many people don't know their roles. Not every match is wrestlemania , not every wrestler is a main eventer. When done well, Pro Wrestling is the best entertainment in my opinion

I’ve heard many, and this was the best interview involving Russo I’ve heard. Basically because he and Ryback are on almost the same exact wavelength when it comes to professional wrestling and the issues with the current product in both WWE and AEW.

@UCZjrQbOn9VLZtK7-RJIP0eg yeah. It's like everyone wants to be the next new Japan/ring of honor. That all works for the independent sceen, but on tv it's different. And that's what wrestling fans/producers forget.

Bingo. I don't even consider these 30 minute flipfest kickout matches to be "5 stars" either. The guys of the Attitude Era could tell stories and work good matches without becoming a bunch of flippy stuntmen.

One thing I've thought about is maybe the reason they dont let wrestlers get way over is because it makes last eras talent look even better. Make sense? By doing what they do like 50/50 booking and keeping everyone from getting over, that makes the ones before you look that much better.

Even when Johnny Ace was hiring talents at the time, he was hiring nothing but pretty boy body builders with no type of charisma what so ever nor did they have the wrestling talent. For AEW they need more heavyweight guys, the 230s, the 240s, the 270s, etc. with charisma and talent if they're going to ever grow bigger as a company. I love the guys they have there but they need more. To me the Lucha Bros although they're not heavyweights but they have larger than life personalities they need to feature more weekly in angles not just matches. I agree with you guys 100 percent on this topic.

This is an interesting conversation where you bring up how a lot of talent are now brought in that are just happy to be there, do some work and get paid to be on tv. It reminds me a LOT of how the WWF was like back in the 80's. You had Hulk Hogan and maybe one or two other guys at the top and then everyone else seemed to have the attitude like well I know im not gonna get a sniff at the world title so I'll subsist on having Hulk continue to be the main draw and we can just be happy to be there smiling and just be glad to be part of the show. Like, there were guys that I thought and still think why did they never get a title shot? They were certainly good enough and liked enough but for whatever reason Hulk was protected and that was the end of the story. Maybe now as you said there wasn't any competition then Vince got complacent and went back to that mindset.

First time listening to a full Ryback show as I saw Russo on, really liked it. Good to hear two minds who can have the mentality to change the industry from the historically failed formula of the posers currently occupying it. Pro Wrestling will always be about charismatic physically impressive characters, the death of the business to the masses in the last decade goes hand in hand with the social rejects unappealing indy wrestlers not only getting hired, but climbing the card, destroying the entire image of the genre along with them and driving off the masses that the industry is built on. Ryback was getting over big in mid 2012, the only reason he didn't win the belt back then was because Rock booked Punk to job to him at the Rumble. Any other scenario and Punk is losing months before as he was in the middle of one of the worst, business killing title runs in history,. If you look at the quarter hour ratings from that time, Ryback dwarfed Punk and Bryan numbers with a half ass push from the company. He made more of a difference in the 2012 HIAC PPV than they did in their entire career as they collapsed business every time they were depended on to draw. That was pretty much the beginning of the end as a megastar in the making like Ryback wasn't pushed to headline when the alternative was two indy niche performers who never connected on a top drawing level which Vince McMahon admitted to in the conference call when the Summerslam 2013 buyrate came in as one of the worst of all time. Hopefully Ryback comes back in some capacity, I doubt AEW is a place for him unless they change their mentality, and in reality, if they don't change their mentality they will be out of the business soon when the Khan that matters decides to stop burning money away on marks pretending to be wrestlers.

Wow. IF what Vince said is true. I'm very disappointed in what Cody said. That's just not a good mentality of running a business, and don't want him I'm charge then. Cause I want AEW to grow. Who doesn't want to make more fans? In any thing you do? Wrestling. Musicians? Acting, artists more fans. More successful. Crazy to hear anybody say, yeah I just want to keep the fans I have now. I'll still with a few hundred thousand who needs a billion fans watching AEW? WHAT? what kind of way of thinking is that? It's similar to WWE saying they don't want another mega star anymore, WHAT? No mega stars and not trying to gain new fans who's letting these people being in charge of Wrestling?

I understand the logic of Axel, Ryder and Hawkins being underutilized, but I mean the old cliche is true; everyone can't main event Wrestlemania. The question then becomes are those talents better than their booking? Ryder has basically done it all in WWE except hold a world title and I'm sure he's made mega money

The problem I think AEW is going to suffer is the fact that they are only going to hire their “Friends” or people they like. They will not hire people they aren’t “friends” with, and in business you can do that. Not everyone behind the scenes are friends in any promotion, past or present
