I just got this sprayer based on this review. Not many KZfaqrs do a lot of in depth tool reviews. They just repeat the information on the box and move on. I am very happy to see a demonstration and some robust testing based on your usage and the box claims. Subscribed!

If you grow food, I suggest you don't use Roundup and then use a bug spray on the plants even with a good cleaning. Roundup kills plants by restricting water intake at the roots. Even a dilute solution on plants could be detrimental. I never use the same sprayer for herbicides and insecticides.

I am a former Home Depot Supervisor and left to start my own construction/ handyman service company. Not to bash specific brand names but I have tried all brands of tools from the yellow to the red to the blue to the green to the orange. I have experience using them both in the store and on the job site. All of my main tools are red but there are a few Ryobi tools which I use professionally. I will say that most I would generally recommend Ryobi for home/diy use but some tools such as their battery brad and pin nailers work well for professional jobs. I have not yet tried this sprayer but after this video I now think that it is worth a try. Many times I have spoken with the regional Techtronics rep. To the comments about the style of battery he informed me that the goal with Ryobi tools is that although through the years things such as indicators and amp hours have changed the main selling point is that if someone bought a drill in say 1996; they can simply purchase a new battery in 2020 when the old battery gives out. The new battery and older drill will still be compatible. I have seen this demonstrated. Most other brands (including Techtronics brands) change their battery style every so many years. I do like this concept which works well with homeowners who may not have a specific budget to buy new tools each year. Thank you for this great video. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing other videos. Again; I may have to purchase and try out the sprayer now!

I was an early adopter of battery power tools and I own tools from all of the name brands except Ridgid. Some years ago I began switching to Ryobi 18V power tools solely because I didn't want to upgrade several thousand dollars worth of tools and batteries with the switch from Ni-Cad/NiMH to Li-on. Companies don't make much money on the tools, but they make a killing on the batteries. Yes, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, (etc.) tools are more powerful, but I've not felt that the switch has impacted my work in any way. Also, hands-down, no contest, if you are careful, and patient, you can not get better tool deals than what Ryobi offers. The one caveat is that I only recommend Ryobi's top-of-the-line tools unless you have very little use for a power tool, then get the budget packages - or better yet, corded tools.

The battery "stem" is a remnant of the older NiCad battery packs, which allows the 18V Li-Ion One+ battery packs to function in older legacy Ryobi tools. Seemed to me, at the time, to be an odd choice on Ryobi's part and makes even less time as time has marched forward. Ryobi, Rigid (at least the consumer tool side), and Milwaukee are all owned by the TTI company and your observation is spot on. Ryobi seems to be the low-end test bed for weird and whacky tools for TTI. Honestly, as long as the engineering and quality control is there the new Ryobi tools in the fluorescent green have been pretty good. I remember the old blue tools: I agree, generally middling to poor performance and/or quality. Thank you for sharing your thorough review!

I love the Ryobi brand. I started with it 11 years ago with a powerdrill and have since expanded when i needed some tools.. I can report on the battery quality. The battery i first got 11 years ago is still working fine and i have used it for all my tools i have. That is great! I bought a grass trimmer a few years ago and that one used a bit more energy so i ended up buying 2x 5Ah batteries and with those i can go on forever with my powertools.. I use the small one for stuff that does not use that much power, like the drill for example where its handy to have a smaller battery... So far i have the following tools and i love them: drill circular saw hand vac glue gun (did not realise it when i bought this one, but i use it A LOT, and i love that its cordless) palm sander (this one vibrates a lot when running, not so great).. soldering iron grass trimmer ... next on my shoppinglist is this sprayer... Will use it for fighting weed and also apply cleaning agent to clean the wood walls on my house before repainting the house .. Thats a big job for it... and i dont want to pump and pump and pump... :)

My favorite battery powered tool is a small portable air compressor made by Ryobi. It has a low pressure side for blowing up inflatables for camping, boating, etc. But on the other side is a high pressure side for tires. Ive had it for probably over 6 years and have got some extremely high use out of it. It was the best $40 I spent (mine didnt come with a battery but I already had 4 batteries). I actually used it so much I have been looking for another one to replace it when it dies but I can't find it. I don't think they make it anymore.

I really liked your video. It was very professional and lighting was excellent and you spoke very clearly so I subscribed but the Ryobi sprayer that you’re using is made so you can fill it without having to take the green upper pump part off every time-the measuring cap is designed to be taken off to add your water and measured chemicals and then put that measuring cap back on to seal the unit for pressurization. I just bought the 4 gallon battery unit by Ryobi because I spray 16 gallons in a typical spray session on my property.

@houseonthemend

Seth coverage is based on the product you are spraying. I can easily spray insecticide around the entire house with one gallon. I would not spray fertilizer on a lawn with this because it would take too long. The spray is very concentrated. I would broadcast dry fertilizer or use a garden hose sprayer instead.

I bought one a couple weeks ago and just used it yesterday. I'm not impressed with the pressure, it started out pretty good but quickly dropped off to a fizzle. I was spraying dawn and vinegar mixture to get rid of wasps. Good thing they were still sleeping, there wasn't enough pressure to combat them if they were lively. I'm going to call Ryobi today and see what they have to say, if they fluff me off with nonsense, I'm returning it. My pump sprayers work quite well, I just have to keep them pumped up. That exercise won't hurt he, but a bee sting would my death, I'm allergic. :(

Question. Did you get a resolution to this? Mine starts off too. Then trickles down to nothing really fast. I noticed it started off good. Plenty of pressure, then simply trickles out. I got use to using it that way, but it still pisses me off that it’s so weak. It’s got a prostate problem or something going on. I’m on KZfaq seeing if others have similar experience, and if there’s a way to get this thing some Viagra or something to boost that pressure up. Mine has been like this out of the box. My dad bought one the same day and turns out his is fine. So, mine has some issue and I wish I knew. I bought it a couple years ago and now I’m sure there’s no recourse.

Clean the intake screen and the pressure will be like it was when you first bought it. Remove the screen and soak it in warm vinegar to dissolve the encrusted mineral deposits. As soon as I cleaned the screen, the pressure was up again, and I was getting the fine mist. I always blamed the device, but the solution to the problem was very simple.

@@richardarthurnorton - Thank you for your reply kind sir.. however, I already did that. That did increase the pressure, but the pressure was bad to begin with. I am looking for a way to increase the overall pressure of the sprayer. I'm looking for a pressure reg, or, an output modification for these.. I cleaned that filter and showed my dad how to do it as well on his. But, it's always been just a weak prostate stream.. I want the thing peeing like it's 6 years old again, up one side of my aunt's bathroom wall trying to hit the tub from 50 ft away.

Nice Video. do you have an update on the sprayer after 3 years? I live in Florida and much treat the outside of my walls twice a years. I did it for the first time a few months ago with a Harbor Freight pump and I don't want to do it again. I am trying to decide if I want to buy the unit you reviewed or the bigger unit. I need to also do the attic. A professional fogger would be great but too expensive. I hear the Ryobi foggers don't do well with herbicides. I still might get one and do a quick light spray in the attic. Its not a space I want to spend much time in. Any suggestions?

It is light weight and works pretty good. It’s woman friendly. It doesn’t have a wide spray so you need to be patient. But, you can use something like neem to rid the average size house of serious pests in a few hours. I will use the direct spray to rid the yard of crab grass on about 1/3 and acre. If you need something faster then probably a company would be best. Some people just don’t have the time. I do. I’m going to spray for fungus now as I have clay areas that cause slip in the very rainy times.

I’m a dewalt guy BUT they do not offer anything like this. Dewalt has a very large backpack style but at five gallons I have zero use for that. Dewalt simply isn’t making anything like this for the consumer. I’ve noticed that Ryobi has a ton of consumer based power tools. For example glue guns, sprayers, power cutting tool etc. ryobi has cut a nice niche for themselves in this sector.

I ordered one of these sprayers, exactly like the one in the video. Ordered 5/11/2020, picked up around 5/18/2020 - I've used it, possibly 3 times at most in that time. Worked great the first couple of times I used it. Now, it will not pump - period. Motor runs, I've taken all the connections apart, cleaned them, blew everything out with compressed air - nothing. To be fair, I did not clean it at all, after the first couple of times I used it. I'm using a mixture of cleaning vinegar, epsom salt and dish detergent for weed control. I guess I'm gonna have to take it back, because I don't know what else to do.

Do not use malathion in this sprayer or any other chemical that can damage plastics. I should have remembered after my previous experiences using malathion. It doesnt go well with some plastics. It will melt them or distort them. My 1st experience with malathion damaging plastic was when the one ounce clear hard plastic measuring cup melted after measuring the amount I was mixing some for my hand pump sprayer. It also discolored it making it a milky white. By itself Malathion is clear, but when poured in water it turns the water a milky white. When I used it in the Ryobi sprayer I did not rinse it out and clean the sprayer after using it, but the damage may have already been done. The pick up tube which was a clear soft plastic turned milky white and also swelled up some. The plastic filter screen fell out of the end of the tubing and the tubing was loose where it fit over the barb for the pump suction inlet. It would no longer suction any liquid placed in the tank including plain water. I was able to order a new replacement suction tube with screen to replace the damaged one. Prior to using the malathion I had used the sprayer to spray Roundup and had not had any problems at all. I am still using it for Roundup but the motor will no longer completely shut off when I release the sprayer wand squeeze lever and fluid continues to trickle from the spray nozzle, so the pump and internals were probably damaged by the malathion. I am trying to find a replacement pump for the sprayer, but will probably buy another one anyway. I will only use the malathion or any similar chemicals with my pump sprayer in the future.

So I called Ryobi the following day on Monday and got the rudest customer service rep. She referred me to one of the service centers and the fella was very nice but told me not to bring it in for the next five or six weeks because they were very backlogged. I think what I am going to write a review on the Ryobi website because I saw that Ryobi responds to negative reviews. I hate to do that but I paid $85.00. With that kind of money I would expect the product to last longer. Personally I don’t think the unit is repairable.
