www.vernissage.tv | In this video we attend the opening of Japanese artist and composer Ryoji Ikeda's audiovisual installation "Test Pattern [100m Version]" at Duisburg's Kraftzentrale, within the framework of Ruhrtriennale -- International Arts Festival. Ikeda's work translates the digital data that surrounds us in everyday life into flickering barcodes. On the artist's 100-meter-long projection, the visitor is at the same time viewer and part of the image. The installation is accompanied by a rhythmical soundtrack. Concept and composition are by Ryoji Ikeda, computer graphics and programming by Tomonaga Tokuyama.

One of my favorite contemporary artist, his work is rethinking life based in science and technology (he is deeply aware that life is not consider as natural anymore) in the post digital world. Also, his exhibitions are very impressive, those sintetic sounds and visuals seems so "our world" and what we are nowadays.

This undoubtedly appears to be a fantastic experience but what is the meaning of this? What is the meaning of this for you? I don't find the impromptu dancers or anything else distracting because it seems that Ikeda's work is generally provocative. The purpose of this piece was how an individual would react to it. The flickering light also hinted at the impermanence of life as it looked like people were coming in and out of existence.

Should be a warning at the beginning... some disclaimer that says the crater and channel isn't responsible for the viewer's seizures and the resulting mess if you didn't strap in with a mouth-guard and a diaper.

Roij Ikeda, ist ein Ideendieb, die Ausstellung Mikro Makro hatte ich in Düsseldorf 2006 entworfen und Inszeniert, er hat nicht nur den Titel unter seinen Namen nachveröffentlicht, sogar der Text den ich damals verfasste zu meiner Ausstellung bei "Simon Spiekermann", ist fast Identisch. Mag sein das er die besseren Beziehungen hat...aber er hat keine Ideen.

Well I mean ryoji ikeda said himself that his pieces are more about the people and their reactions, and most of the piece is the people and the people watching the people. I imagine he probably doesnt mind much
