One issue not addressed is that the Advanced Exposure film used would be a different film with a different density of black than the user would use. I use the Stouffer scale but it has a similar issue. Best to create your own gradient tests in Photoshop using your own printer and film to arrive at the Base Exposure time. Redo if you change film or printer or emulsion. (As it happens, the next video cued up in KZfaq is "how to make your own step wedge for digital negatives" by Scott Barnes!)

extremely helpful. I'll just be trying this with the speedball emulsion kit since I'm using a black light u.v light which is stronger than their tutorial.

@@Ryonet hopefully it will. Catspit productions also tested yellow over black film and it worked , so that will be part of my test as well. I have both yellow and black on the same film.

very helpfull thanks ryonet, may i ask you some questions? 1. i seen white rope on the glass, what is the function for? 2. what about the lightning spec, such as how many lamp (lumen / watt)? 3. what about the distance beetween the glass to lamp cap? 4. what about surface area of the glass (wide x long)? i hope you would love to answer all of my questions best regard....

using the exposure unit do you still need to post Harden the emulsion as you need to do using a halogen light?

What about using aluminum foil to block out the light??

An perfectly exposed screen is good substrate-to-substrate across the board. So in short no it's not different. What this test ensures is that you have the right settings to get the most detail out of your screen and initially have a crisper final product.
