7:20 Both 4650U and 10750H are 6C/12H parts. Intel scores 2632 for 45 W , 58 Points/Watt while AMD scores 2955 for 25 W, 118 Points/Watt. That's a pretty rough estimate but that could explain the efficiency jump from 14 nm to 7nm. In other word, AMD is not only ahead in node size, but has already cought up to Intel IPC performance (as if it wasn't obvious from the Single Core score, duh?)
@andersjjensen
@andersjjensen 3 жыл бұрын
AMD is far ahead of Intel's IPC, but it is somewhat negated by the memory latency of the infinity fabric. If you lock the frequency to 1GHz on both Intel 10th gen and Zen 2 parts on SKUs with similar L3 the AMD one is about 10% faster in integer/ALU workloads and about 25% faster in FPU workloads. With Zen 3 being 8 core CCX instead of 4 core CCX (thus getting unified cache for all the "smaller" SKUs) that alone should give them an even further advantage... Now if AMD has also fixed the latency issue with the infinity fabric, Intel could be in for a real fun ride :P
@bartholomew4487
@bartholomew4487 3 жыл бұрын
@@andersjjensen "IPC" is a generic term that doesn't mean anything. AMD is better in some workloads, Intel is better in others. Neither one has better "IPC". This may change with Tiger Lake-U, Zen 3 and Rocket Lake-S.
@andersjjensen
@andersjjensen 3 жыл бұрын
@@bartholomew4487 No, IPC is an absolute real concept in computer science. Marketing departments, however, have somewhat redefined it's meaning to be "IPC huddled together with the implications of the memory subsystem". Most RISC architectures (Like ARM, MIPS and Power) execute one instruction per clock tick (provided no memory bottleneck) whereas SISC architectures (where x86/x86_64 is the last surviving) has pretty varying execution times depending on the particular (set of) instruction(s). In many cases x86 can execute more than one instruction per tick, as FPU instructions are fed to a different execution pipeline and some ALU operations are beefed up with speculative branching and/or clever prefetch. This comes at the cost of more transistors. AMD currently have more transistors per core (especially expended on the FPU portion, as is evident by math heavy benchmarks) because they are on a denser node. So, yes, obviously this will change with upcoming architectures from both vendors as they utilize node advancement to create ever more complex circuits. The overall IPC at 1GHz on a Pentium 4 is only ~20% the IPC of one core at 1GHz on a 10th gen even when the workload is adjusted for smaller cache size of the Pentum 4. So roughly speaking, you'd need to overclock your P4 to 20-25GHz to keep up with modern architectures.
@claritoresdiano1021

@@andersjjensen 4000 mobile series doesn't use chiplet design like dekstop zen3 3000 series. Which correlation of CCX ? Ryzen 4000G Dekstop use an internal memory controller inside sillicon lottery, That is mobile and dekstop cpu both are same or not ?
@andersjjensen
@andersjjensen 3 жыл бұрын
@@claritoresdiano1021 The remark was not aimed at OP, but at the goof that said that IPC "means nothing". Yes, you are correct that 4000 mobile uses a monolithic die, which corresponds to an 8 core CCX (that is, all the cores access the same L3 cache). Zen 3 is, as far as we know, going to use 8 core CCX'es but still have the memory controller on a separate die. TSMCs 7nm yields are so good now that AMD can still keep the price advantage despite moving to bigger chiplets. But to answer your question: No, mobile 4000 and desktop 4000 will not be the same architecture or layout.

The ThinkPad T14 is exactly the type of laptop I would buy, so I did. I ordered the Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U version with 2 × 16 GB RAM and a 1TB SSD on Lenovo UK's web site. I also chose the brighter non-touch-sensitive low power display. I've been waiting since February for a 4800U laptop but this one ticks all the boxes, including having a cabled Ethernet socket. The only problem is the 5 to 6 week wait for delivery.

While desktop CPUs are easy to benchmark, I have often found that while benchmarking laptops, apple to apple comparison is very difficult. This may be attributed to the manufacturers tweaking a lot of stuff under the hood and providing hardly any options to change in the BIOS.
