My old laptop broke down recently so it was time to go browsing to check for prices. I was working with a low budget so I wanted to get a bang for my buck value in terms of performance and this video helped me a lot in my research! I didn't get an HP Pavilion but I did find a Lenovo IdeaPad with the same specs (Ryzen 5 5600H with GTX 1650, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD), a massive upgrade over my old laptop and should last for me quite a while since I don't really play too many high end games on it. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review, even though you sound a bit under the weather. This is one of my favorite KZfaq channels. I really like your videos, and I've been hoping to see some comparison between older discrete graphics and the more modern APUs, and, from this video it looks like the older discrete graphics still wins. I have an older laptop with a GTX1500m, and have been trying to figure out what I might be able to upgrade it too, and hoping some of the newer Ryzen chips might be better, but I guess not. It would be great if you could provide a bit more context in how the various graphic cards/APUs compare, especially now that we are really in need of alternatives to the traditional discrete graphics cards.

I know about the GPU scarcity these days but isn't it possible to get something higher than the 1650? And perhaps you could also include the weight of the PC in your specs info. Thanks

I love this laptop. I upgraded mine to 32GB of 3200 C22 from crucial and I put in a 2TB sata ssd. It's the first time I've had a laptop where I truly feel like I can leave my micro atx sized desktop at home for long trips and not feel like it's hurting my work while doing video editing & audio production. Also the memory on the 1650 can be overclocked to the max in afterburner which really helps a lot of games FPS.

@@zaid9596 When gaming yes it's loud but it's not like high end gaming laptop loud, but louder than my previous Lenovo Yoga with a MX250 and 7th gen i5. When doing daily tasks like browsing the web, video, it's just barely audible. I actually repasted the cpu/gpu so that has definitely helped. edit: Also I have ryzen controller set to a small 3w boost for the 5600H so that also may be part of the noise I'm hearing. At stock it probably wouldn't be as loud.

I'm glad that Microcenter is offering this, and I'm glad that they sent you one for review so we could hear your thoughts. It is slightly annoying that when HP designed the equivalent model for Intel earlier this year, they included a 1660 Super in the configuration instead of the 1650 that is included here.

Definitely perform the upgrades! I'm sick right now as well and I'm across the country from you, just seems that time of year. Regarding this laptop, it seems like a great performer that will get even better when upgraded and tuned. I went with a Zephyrus G15 3070 since I needed the extra screen resolution but I feel like this laptop is excellent value for money and I might have even been swayed due to the price delta if it had been available a couple months ago.

Hey dude. I was shopping around and I bought this per this "review" so far it looks like what I was looking for minus the typing experience, it's great. Fit my budget and I usually play fighters so this is more than enough. Even installed a 1tb SSD as well.

I've used the last two generations of these HP gaming laptops with the Ryzen 3550H and 4600H and they are awesome for both productivity and gaming for either light gaming or a laptop for your kids. I'm sure the latest iteration is just as good. My only suggestion is adding more RAM to the base configuration to take advantage of dual channel RAM. They run cool and quiet - very happy with our purchases.

Been looking to get a laptop for some games for when at work since I have a lot of downtime. This seems like the perfect fit for things like MMOs and older/lower demanding games. Still got my 3070 PC at home so I don't need anything super crazy for a laptop. Plus my local Microcenter has 3 open box ones for 625$. Gonna grab another 8gb RAM stick while there too which will really help with performance.

I actually just got this laptop about 2 weeks ago. Loving it so far, no real gaming outside of Genshin and Citra emulator but it's been good for editing in premiere pro and Davinci Resolve. Still in base config for the moment.

I always built my own desktops but I took a chance and bought one of these and was very pleasantly surprised! I was shocked because I figured I was going to be overloaded with bloatware but whoever built mine had tweaked the services almost as good as I do! I also got the 16gb ram dual channel and this thing still runs any game I every play even in late July 2022. You must get the 16gb dual channel since the Ryzen really seems to blaze with the dual channel, if not You are losing out big time. I would buy HP prebuilt again in the future!

I am surprised that you were not more enthusiastic about this laptop because it is clear that out of the box it is great. I did notice one other thing that seems to have happened as a result of your cold/flu and that is that the gameplay without the commentary, with graphics on screen showing the average FPS and settings was a more enjoyable watch and flowed better to the eye, so would recommend this as a default going forward. Would also be more efficient for your content creation efforts too.
