The 6.5 Guys discuss annealing brass cartridges and provide an overview of the Bench Source annealing machine. We cover why this particular unit was purchased based on our needs versus similar products or annealing practices. We review items needed for setup and walk through fine tuning the adjustments to prepare for running a batch of cases through the annealing process.

Gday guys great videos .Stuart from Australia here. Sorry to be a debbie downer but that machine is very complicated requires big gas bottle, gas hoses quite a big set up for something very meanial. The best way hands down is running the cases on there side in a rotating cylinder against a guide bar with the torch focused on just the neck and shoulder. Much like the anneal eez which is available in your country . I have something similar to this for my case annealing and it takes 3 mins to set up and around 10 mins for 100 cases to be done. All my cases turn out like brand new factory annealed cases. At my club no one has bothered buying a machine they have copyied mine or i just do them at my place for them because it is so simple and fast. Cheers guys keep up the videos.

Great video guys. I'm getting ready to purchase the AMP (annealing made perfect) machine. Any thoughts on this product?

Correction: In the video I state the Bench-Source will work with everything from .50 cal to 17 HMR. I meant 17 Hornet, although the Bench-Source web site claims 22 Hornet as the smallest cartridge. .50 cal also requires a different turntable supplied by Bench-Source. As for the cartridges we shoot, the Bench-Source does everything from 5.56 to .338 Lapua with the same configuration.

I was looking at the Bench-Source manual, it shows the temp paint on the outside of the brass. Why did you paint the inside of the neck?

Would you be able to set a small torpedo level across the blocks for the torch heads to aid in making sure they are level and aligned with one another? I realize they pivot as well, but it seems like it would get the basic heights pretty darn close pretty quickly...

Great idea Monte. Your suggestion along with some other suggestions we received can shorten the setup time. We'll summarize those suggestions in a followup video and article.

Great video guys. I'm having a problem trying to find out exactly how well this machine and the Annealleez actually work. When I look at the AMP site (and believe me, I don't want to spend $1,400 USD on an annealing machine), they state that "We can say with some certainty that optimum annealed neck hardness is 95 HV - 100 HV. This also happens to be the neck hardness of most virgin Peterson, Lapua and Norma brass.", and their machine anneals to this standard. With this said, I can't find ANYTHING on the Bench Source or Annealleez site that state what HV we can expect to achieve with their machines. Just saying that we're "Annealing" the brass without actually knowing whether or not we're annealing it properly for our specific use, is just, well, a waste of time and money. I just wish I could know what these two flame anneallers were ACTUALLY achieving? Nothing against your video, I just want us all to have the right information from these folks who want our money, and right now, it looks like AMP is the only one willing to say that their machine actually achieves the RIGHT result.

I think 750° f is too low, and the AMP guys say in an interview that the 750 is not hot enough. They also test salt bath annealing at 930° F to 1000° F which also shows too low heat to achieve proper hardness (about 100 Hv). This probably indicates that their induction heaters use temperatures above 1000° F. We only need a color chart to see the brass glow in the right red color, and AMP has made every effort not to reveal the temperature they are using.

Hi guys good video. I've purchased the Bench-Source and want to use a 5 lb tank with y splitter. I had a retired propane distributor guy that I need a low regulator on this setup and I see you guys aren't using one. Thanks Terry

I played around with a regulator but in the process of doing so switched to the induction AMP annealer.

6.5 guys can you tell me where I can buy that Y splitter at the connection of the 5 gallon tank and the Benzomatic extension hoses? I cannot find any Y splitter regulators that will fit the benomatic size threads at homedepot and lowes.

Tony Vu Hi Tony, thanks for watching. We used the Bernzomatic UL2317 pencil flame brass torch. You can find them at Amazon or Home Depot for sure (maybe at Ace or Lowes). www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-Pencil-Flame-Brass-Torch-329207/100079143?keyword=UL2317

bob10475 Hi bob10475, thanks for watching. Here are the links: You can get the Coleman or Camco splitter (we've used both. The Coleman is just as good and less expensive): www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000014514-Propane-Tee/dp/B0009PUPWY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427308081&sr=8-1&keywords=coleman+propane+splitter www.amazon.com/Camco-59893-Propane-Adapter-Handwheel/dp/B007HG7VWU/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1427308113&sr=8-7&keywords=propane+splitter You can use both Coleman and Camco hoses (we've use both, but I like the Coleman hoses better even though they are shorter.): www.amazon.com/Camco-59043-Propane-Extension-Hose/dp/B00192QBPQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427308512&sr=8-2&keywords=camco+propane+hose www.amazon.com/Coleman-8-Ft-Propane-Hose/dp/B0009PUQBO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427308568&sr=8-2&keywords=coleman+propane+hose The Bernzomatic UL2317 Torches can be found at Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
