I would like to make it very clear. I know absolutely nothing about surfing. The only thing I do know about surfing is that Jeffreys Bay is a very well-known surfing destination in the world, a surfing mecca of sorts. So, there was no way that we could not take a drive through this place. Of course it has its big and beautiful houses and the stunning beaches but it also has a very busy beachfront where you can find all the pubs and restaurants for a wonderful night or day out. We truly enjoyed visiting Jeffreys Bay. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #jeffreysbay #surf #ocean #beach

Wow, that was a trip down memory lane.. I used to live down there.. can't believe how much Jeffrey's has grown since I was there last.. feeling quite nostalgic.. you two are giving me itchy feet, making me hungry to get back on the road again . Only problem.. I now have 8 cat's 🤦🏼‍♀️🐱😸😹😻😼😽🙀😿🥰.. living on an overgrown old nursery that's gone wild, in an old stone cottage that was built in 1820..a cats paradise.. the longest Iv ever stayed still 😄. They used to call me the coastal Gypsy 😂 I've traveled our whole coastline (not in one go) from and including Mozambique... up the west coast to Namibia. Thank you both for sharing your journey..love seeing old roads Iv traveled and roads I never discovered, you two are awesome 🚗🎉✨💖

We're so glad that our video reminded you of some good times. It's certainly a much bigger town than we expected. 😱 As fellow cat lovers, we can identify with you fully. We moved back from the US with four fantastic felines and we lost the last one just over two years ago. 😥 We still miss them very much, but we're now finally able to travel. We're happy that you're travelling along from the comfort of your home surrounded by your precious furry children. 😍😻 It sounds like you've done a lot of travelling yourself and you must have so many special memories of your trips and experiences. We so appreciate you enjoying ours.

Jeffreys Bay has changed from the charming litttle town I knew back then into an Up-You Mecca. Sorry to be negative but this doesnt turn me on at all. I love little out of the way places that havent been spoiled by the material world. Sorry if this is not okay, but I have to voice my own preference. Its different strokes for different folks. Give me the wild places with animals and birds, trees, strange plants, and dust!

We will always prefer gravel roads and obscure places, but it's also important to us to document our entire journeys, which will from time-to-time include busier and bigger towns along the way. Thank you for watching! 😁🚗

I lived in Mangaung and Tshwane, then in and around Cape Town, but only ever saw the white beaches of the Western Cape. We also have a beach with very dark grey sand, but the dark yellowish beaches of KZN did surprise. I can only guess that it must be having a very different mineral content. I spent a few days in Durban, and found that only the ice cream was safe to eat. I suffer from a cardiovascular condition, which is triggered by spicy food. Therefore, it is unsafe to go there, as the food sellers in Durbs are sadistic indeed. One should be able to choose, and not risk dying of stroke even when you bite into a regular burger.

On our way to natures valley, my wife and I would usually take the old road and turn into J-Bay just for the fun of it. Brings back good memories, thanks guys. Some massive mansions have grown up there, we could,ve bought a plot there 25 years ago for R40 000, imagine what an investment that would,ve been, but 40K was alot for us then. Safe travels

@@CheGypsyWay how sad, my dad sold our family plot with a shack on in natures valley. It was really a garage converted with two toilets and a shower heated by a donkey. I live on one of SA's most popular beaches, internationally renowned. The overcrowding and rich kids riding electric bikes, segways, wheels and scooters, mean that we can't enjoy it. Little kids, pets, elderly or otherwise frail are too unsafe because of folks not knowing how to have fun. And that's regardless of the day of the week. On Sunday nights, traffic is very congested until around 11pm. And everybody whose dog knew your dog in 1963 wants to visit; we want to go live in Vosburg or Fraserburg instead. And that could start a trend that will eventually overcrowd little dorpies.

Now I know you guys are going to say ,"NO way, this can't be true. how can this guy been everywhere in the EC" but here we go. Last time I have been to Jeffreys was a long time ago, I was a tiny little place with a bunch of VW Combi's withe a bunch of long haired dudes with some really dodgy looking girls (Engelse van die stad af as jy weet waarvan ek praat). It was such a little backwater the only thing it had going for it was Surfing, which my dad told us kids were no good people smoking some weird stuff and lived in the bush somewhere. Now, I have been living abroad for the past 30 years and about 15 years ago we went back for holiday which we planned with my parents for a year to stop over in Jeffreys for 2 days so we can catch up. My uncle who was a General in the Police had a brand new house built there which they rented out to "holiday makers" at enormous prices +- !00 pounds UK per day. For them it was R1500 per day and a lot of money but for us coming from London it was like half a days wages. So my father ever the penny pincher asked them if we could rent their house for 2 days, but the answers from my uncles wife was a "NO" it is "Very Expensive and Upper Class" and they will feel very bad having us pay that much. My father being a no nonsens kind of person sniffed the "Shit" a mile away, said to my uncles wife "Ag toe nou, drik die huis in jou gat op, in elk geval dit klink of die kinders eerder op Shamwari wil ontmoet" BAM, my dad said my aunt went white as a sheet as she tried to stay on top of her dignity for that was the death blow, "Shamwari". Bit of trivia here. The old governments Dutch, Afrikaans and English used to supply farming families with a free donkey so that their kids could travel to school. (G.Aunt was a teacher in 1910). So the donkeys would graze near the schools while the kids were learning, then were used to ride home on. So part from the military use of donkeys, schools did so as well and hence many places having large donkey populations now. (I doubt that they are used for that these days, but who knows the way the world is going.)

There was a very large portion of Jbay you missed. Next time go check out surf village as well as da gama, one street up from the road you thought was where it was happening. There are also lots of hidden treasures in terms of restaurants, like the Marina and Aston side. As far as beaches go, you will need to go to Paradise beach if you are looking for long stretches of safe and beautifully secluded areas. The sand dunes between Clapton and Aston Bay main beach is also something spectacular. You definitely need to find a local next time you're in town to show you the less touristy spots to enjoy. ❤

The 14 minute mark shows a fence and razor wire, is crime that bad there?
@DustBugsTravel
@DustBugsTravel Жыл бұрын
We live in the Western Cape and we don't have any knowledge of the crime statistics in the Jeffrey's Bay area. Fences and razor wire are extremely commonplace in South Africa though, so that alone would not be an indication of crime levels in a certain town. We find them literally everywhere, even in areas where incidents of crime are relatively low. Each property owner decides what security measures, if any, would be appropriate for them, based on their own personal circumstances. 🙂
