We stopped by the side of the road to have a cereal breakfast, ensuring our tummies were filled before continuing our journey to the small town of Paul Roux in the Free State. The road we travelled on into town offered a glimpse of the unique charm awaiting us in this remarkable place. From the historic church building to the iconic Postal Tree, the National Bank, and the Rock 1908 Pub & Grill. We also encountered many more fascinating landmarks like the old hotel and the Pink Tricycle shop, not to mention the site of the old inn where the horsemen of old changes the horses to continue along on their postal route. Exploring this quaint town, brimming with rich history, proved to be an enjoyable and enlightening experience. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #paulroux #freestate

My idea of a perfect little "dorp" with tree-lined gravel roads and beautiful stonemasonry everywhere, and life still caught-up in the early 20th century. If only the walls of the hotel (now the lodge) could speak. Awesome video. Thank you.

Hi you two! Thank you for this trip over the wonderful wide plains of the OFS. Paul Roux is a real sandstone gem of living history. The DR Church was really unique, so is the woodwork of the old furniture at the hotel. Surprises everywhere along the treelined gravel streets - beautiful! Greetings from the Waterberg foot hills with on/off internet. Until next time, Keep safe!

I was very happy that I could get inside that gorgeous church! These folks in the small towns are so proud of their church buildings and it's never too much trouble for them to open for us. 🚙💒 Luckily this church hasn't needed high fences, the community has looked after it and its grounds very well over the years.

In the last couple of episodes you have mentioned the colourful cosmos flowers growing by the roadside. These plants are indigenous to Central and South America. During the Anglo-Boer War, the British imported fodder for their horses from Argentina and Mexico. Some of the fodder was contaminated with cosmos plants, the seeds of which found a new home in South Africa resulting in the plant having spread to many parts of the country.

Paul Roux I know it so well. Been to it many times. Later this year I'll be in the Western Cape. Out and about looking for good images to photograph. The Eastern Free State I know very well. And its awesome photographic site.

Thanks for sharing video of your trip to Paul Roux; the NGK interior was soothing. The map at the start of your video seems to be filling up with dots marking the places visited. How many towns in the Orange Free State have you not visited already? 🤔 Biddulphsberg farm mountain retreat gets good reviews, so it might well be worth a visit in future. ☮️

@Tim_Kent thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed Paul Roux with us! While I keep track of the places we've visited on our map, I can't tell you offhand how many Free State towns we've been to, but it's many and we hope to visit many more in the future! 🚙😁

There was a bit of a hair-pulling session during the Boar war at biddulphsberg on 25 May 1900 when a detachment of British troops from Gen Rundles 8 Corp & a Boer commando clashed on the slopes of this mountain, hence the battlefield (cannon) symbol on the route marker. During this fight, being in the winter, the veld caught fire resulting in some wounded dying in the flames. Paul Roux has the additional, trick or treat, distinction of being the birthplace of P.W Botha.

I'm not sure if you know what a huge job editing three videos a week is, especially if they're as long as ours are. We still work full-time and I still have to eat and sleep sometimes too, so there'll always be a period of time between our travels and when our videos are uploaded. 🚙😁
