Sometimes growing vegetables in a wintery climate can feel like an extreme sport... So when I received an email from Nate of the Manti Homestead sharing how he built an off-grid greenhouse that's growing bananas, passionfruit, and more in the Utah snow, I was intrigued.
Nate shares a wealth of knowledge in this value-packed episode. Prepare to have your gardening paradigm challenged in the best of ways!

I grow banana's and oranges here in NE Florida. It freezes here a few times a year. I mulch a lot and when it gets cold I use incandescent Christmas lights around my banana and orange trees. The lights keep everything warm while keeping them covered with a sheet. They do great and make it every year. Just saying keep trying people! Thanks Jill not only for the great videos but, also for the great beef I get from genuine beef co there in Wyoming!

I use diatomaceous earth for aphids. We had aphids on our potatoes, and only on the potatoes, this spring in our smallest greenhouse and it has worked great.

@@mantihomestead Thank you Manti, I checked out your channel. To be completely honest, The scary thumbnails turn me off. I struggle with severe depression and anxiety, and I try to stay away from gloom and doom. Worry can send me into a downward spiral that I may not be be able to navigate myself out of in the future. I do what I can, but I am not in a position to be any kind of prepper. I lost my homestead after losing my husband to cancer, and I am still trying to pull the shards of my life back together. I can only trust in God at this point, and do my best to rebuild.

Not interested in most tropical fruit, but a few citrus trees & black pepper plants would be a blessing as house plants.

LOL good one. But 2007 F150 isn't that old. Our NEWEST vehicle the we had ever had between us is the 2001 F250 Super Duty commercial truck. That is soon to be up for sale as it simply is too hard on gas and also the commercial suspension is HARD on a body LOL. We have a 1994 Lincoln Town Car in the process of repair that will be sold as it simply doesn't work out here. The replacements are a 1996 GMC 4X4 and 1994 Chevy 2 wheel drive truck.
