Part 2 of our Alaska & Beyond overlanding adventure series. In this episode takes across the border from Yukon Territory into Alaska. We cover about 200 miles in the Alaskan backcountry and then head for a camp in the Chugach Mountains on our way to Valdez. Except something unexpected happened in the Chugash Mountains....
Valdez could possibly be the most beautiful area I've ever seen. Absolutely amazing.
From Valdez we take the Alaska Maritime Ferry, with our Patriot Campers X3 Trailer, to Whittier through Prince William Sound. Again, more absolutely amazing scenery like I've never seen before.
Finishing off we drive through the 2 1/2 mile Whittier tunnel on our way to Anchorage to meet up with our friends who flew in from San Diego, CA. They are renting two overlanding vehicles from Alaska Overlander ( ‪@alaskaoverlander‬ ). We prep, back and enjoy Anchorage for the weekend before heading out on an epic 2 week Alaska overlanding adventure with them.

Yeah the Memorial Day is a bit early for touristy stuff unfortunately (depending on how much snow we get that year), but like you said you get to beat the crowds :) June is probably the best time as it's not as rainy and snow is gone from lower elevations.

Yep based on what we found in July June was less traveled by others. But last year everyone said "wow this is a rainy June". But at least it was all light rain for the most part. Thanks for watching!

Nice job! We ate at Moose's Tooth Pizza when we we in Anchorage six years ago. What program do you use for your maps and routes you show? Before I start ,y Alaska videos I need to finish a few that have been just sitting on computer. Working to finish up ones from our Grand Canyon trip from a couple of years ago. I am finally home for a few months lol!

Thanks! I use Apple Motion for all the animated maps. Yeah, I still have a few videos to finish up 😅 But I can't wait to get back out.

I'm just curious to know what you're using for cameras to shoot your video what resolution are you shooting in and uploading it

We use a variety of cameras. All video is shot in 4K but frame rate and color depth depend on the platform. Primary cameras are the Sony A7SIII andl A7RV with a variety of lenses usually at 60fps. Next is the Insta360 X3 shot in 5.8K (recently upgraded to the X4 at 8K). However post production reduces the resolution to roughly 4K. We have a couple of GoPros at 4K and 3 drones Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic mini pro 3, and a Mavic Air 2. With most cameras we shoot in log mode and all video goes through manual color grading in post production with the final video being rendered in 4K HDR (HLG format). The HLG format seems to work best with KZfaq. With the Insta360 and GoPro their log format isn’t the greatest so we shoot in HDR and I still tweak the color grading. It’s labor intensive hence we are way behind in getting releasing content. But the quality of the content is very important to us. Thanks for asking!

@@adventurebeyond60 That explains a lot. I have been slowing migrating to 4K but its brutal on my computer hardware, I guess I need to bite the built and spend about 5K on a system that will handle it. I appreciate your detail and explanation

@@BackcountryNomad Yes it takes a lot of horsepower to do video post production. And don't forget to budget for backing up the data!
