The main problem with a camera - you won't put it in your pocket and carry it everywhere you go.

There's no real match between a full frame sensor and that of any smartphone, but there is a catch. And that is the way most people look at photos nowadays, and that is on a smartphone or, at best, a tablet. Add to that the compression used by social media and the end result between an advanced smartphone and a full-frame camera will be almost the same.

You’re comparing a professional camera to a smart phone, but to use the smart phone in point and shoot mode instead of pro mode. I don’t get it. Why not use the S 23 ultra in full mode? I’m pretty sure my S 21 ultra would’ve done much better than the results I saw coming out of the 23 ultra. I hate to say it, but I really think you don’t know how to use that phone’s camera. For instance, everything you said that was darker could’ve been brighter if you tap on the screen on the subject that you were focusing on. It looks like you just shot those pics by just pointing the camera. If you’re going to do a Comparison like this, use this phone in pro mode.

Thanks for the comparison. the thing is, despite the A7SIII looking better from a cinematic point. the S23 was clearer and more detailed for most every day shots - this is perfect. I picked one up on launch and very happy with it, perfect for vlogging. will still use my sony for my indoor studio shots though :)

lol like sharpness is everything) the image is softer probably because of the settings. I do this myself. Sharpness (-3) so i can make the image sharper on the post. This way the final result will be much more pleasant to look on. In this comparison sony a7s3 simply trashes S23 Ultra

@kidstardust1457 over time you will value compromise on things like this. I wouldn't go shoot a movie with a phone... even though they are pushing that agenda now. But for simple vlogging, what you gain in less overall items to carry has an advantage

Go to pro mode where you can do 120 fps 1080p and that is much better quality than 240 fps and you can use two lenses: the main and the UW. However, no zoom lenses are available for slow motion.

I prefer the s23 videos, has more detail I feel in the sea. It is slightly darker, but at the same time enhances detail. I notice your camera also on the sea front the camera also magnify the haze in the atmosphere, so get a more washed out image. Also you can have manual modes on a smart phone, so can get far better videos and photos in manual mode and a professionals never use out of the box auto modes.

I think this comparison is the one that more people should watch than those who glorify smartphone cameras. I own Samsung phones for a decade now and love them, but a phone can't replace a camera at all, even 1080p on a cheap MTF camera with a decent low aperture lens looks better than 8k video on a phone. Phones can excel when it comes to processing still images through AI, but they just always look flat compared to the dynamic range and bokeh of a real camera. Often content creators go to a city and take a shot of a church or whatever, and yes, a smartphone can do that basic thing really well, it's just not good at pretty much anything else, especially any type of video. I honestly think that even the super stable footage of the S23 looks worse than what you did on the Sony. Yes, it's steady, but it's still weirdly sharp and just doesn't look good while being so steady.
@MJ-uk6lu
@MJ-uk6lu Жыл бұрын
I personally really didn't like Ultra's footage. It's always clearly oversharpened, with tons of crushed blacks, lack of grey shades and then random overly saturated objects. The hardware itself seems to be decent, but Samsung really needs to work on their processing software. Older Samsungs used to be far less overprecessed and looked more natural, even on older lower end hardware, but with very acceptable and slight sensor flaws. I think you should try Open Camera app (it allows to turn off some auto processing) to see what you can achieve with it. Hell, it would be very interesting to see what would happen if you matched manual controls of both camera and took pictures with focus set to same part of picture.

After watching a lot of pro camera reviews, I believe they nailed it & it's considerable option for photography starter. To summarize, Auto mode isn't enough & it doesn't give you what the lenses are capable of, manual pro+raw mode are must. You won't need colour or light editing, as it's embedded by default

Smartphone cameras are improving all the time for sure, and I own an S23 Ultra which I love to use for photos and videos linked to my hobbies and interests. I love the thing, especially how it allows and encourages you to take charge of your own settings to get the effects you are looking for. I know though DARN WELL that in no way, bar basic stabilization, can any smartphone realistically compete with a top professional camera's flexibility and efficiency. To suggest any phone can is pretty absurd. Especially videowise against an A7S111. Then again, to suggest that someone could carry a professional camera around with them in their pocket all day is pretty absurd too. This is what smartphone cameras are all about in my opinion. Getting good photo and video quality in a portable device. Let's not forget that you can carry editing equipment around in your pocket within your phone also. I started by saying that mobile phone cameras are improving all the time, but let all flagship mobile phone owners not forget that professional camera development is not standing still. Far from it. The gulf in quality between the two will always exist.

@@ItsTomRich It may be a standard but all movies you watch are on 24 fps. That's why I like my productions to be on 24fps instead of 25. Feels more cinematic!

@@CHTFilms In Europe, if you shoot in 24fps you get unavoidable light flicker from any artificial lighting. Hence why it’s not used by any production companies here unless you’re literally lighting everything in your scene

@@ItsTomRich i shoot on 1/50 or 1/100 so it's not a problem. 100fps on 1/200 still flickers so it doesn't matter to me.. i shoot on 120fps only if I light the scene
