======== En Livstid I Krig LYRICS =======
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?
Gick ut i strid för Sverige, blev döpt i blod
Där ute väntar döden, inte hjältemod
I fält där fränder faller, hörs ingen sång
Utmanar våra öden, ännu en gång
Långt hemifrån
Döpas och dö i strid
Och världen brann
För kriget det kan
Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?
Och när min tid har runnit ut
Vem bryr sig då?
De kämpar på
Får en soldat ett värdig slut?
Få somna in
Försvinna bort
Och aldrig vakna
För kriget det kan
Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?

It is sadder. The lyrics are about the individual soldier instead of the war in general. "The war can destroy a man. I give my life for my fatherland. But who will miss me? See me like a husband, a friend. Father and son who will never return. But who mourns me?"

The 2 versions of this song truly express the Sabaton's principle of oppose war, honor soliders - the English version sings about the 30 years war in a very negative light, while the Swedish version immortalizes an unknown soldier and his forgotten peers. "Has man gone insane" is the most powerful line in the English lyric, while "Men vem sörjer mig?" ("But who'll mourn for me") is easily what makes most people tear up in the Swedish version.

For our none Swedish speaking friends :) "I look around and see my home disappear My time at home now feels far too short Only youth, hardly a man when duty called me If I get to see my home again, I do not know Among relatives from my village, I went out to battle And the world burned For the war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who misses me? So see me as it A husband, a friend Father and son never coming home But who mourns me? Went out in battle for Sweden, was baptized in blood Out there, death awaits, not heroism In fields where relatives fall, no song is heard Challenging our destinies, once again Far from home Be baptized and die in battle And the world burned For the war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who misses me? So see me as it A husband, a friend Father and son never coming home But who mourns me? "Guitar solo" And when my time has run out Who cares then? They are struggling Does a soldier get a dignified end? Get to sleep Disappear And never wake up For the war it can Destroy a man I give my life for my homeland But who misses me? So see me as it A husband, a friend Father and son never coming home But who mourns me?"

I don't speak the language, and to be honest before I found this band, I never cared. I also didn't care much about history. This was the very first song I ever heard by this band, the Swedish version. I was already in a particularly rough patch in my life, and then I found this randomly. I broke down. I could not understand a word of it, but it crushed me that night. I've always believed music affects so many people because it's pure energy and that night, it could not have been more true for me. I searched everything I could about this song and band that brought me quite literally to my knees that night. I found so many more songs, about history, things I never knew. It was the beginning of my absolute love for them. My fathers side of the family was in the military, and I never really cared in the past. This band changed that. I can't explain it really, and to the average netzien, it likely sounds like the ramblings of a madman. I accept that. I wanted to say that Sabaton, you changed quite a bit for me that night and those going forward. Thank you. I hope one day I will find the courage and the means to see you in concert for myself. Best wishes to you and yours.

When life is beating you down into the ground, find a song like this, raise up to, carry on, no matter what burdens are on your shoulder it may be:regret, sorrow, heartbreak, financial, or depression. Music can be the little thing you need to push through. For me this song is my goto song when life is giving me hell, and only path is forward and through it. Emotional, inspiring, loving and in plain text, an awesome song. 💯

My dad has spoken swedish to me my entire life, even though we live in Finland. Always, no matter the ocasion he speaks swedish to me and as such I associate the swedish language with him and to hear a song sung of soldiers being sent into a meat grinder never to see their families again.... It hits a completely other way especially with the current political situation and him still being the age where he would be called to service for his homeland

It’s trippy when you realize that the English lyrics match the Swedish ones, even though they are different (like they take the same time to sing)

I did a presentation at my school for our history class last Friday, I spoke about the swedish great power era (I'm swedish) using the carolus rex album and went through each song on the album and explaining what they are about. I wanted to show the class one example song that they could listen to and I chose to show this video between 01:00 and 02:18 so thank you Sabaton!
