Former President, Jacob Zuma, has launched a counter application before the Constitutional Court.
He wants to have the six Justices who presided over his contempt of court matter, in 2021, recuse themselves. This, as the apex court is set to hear the matter between the IEC and the MK party, next Friday (10 May 2024). Political Analyst, Sandile Swana joins the discussion.

Surprisingly the commission was conßtituted by him, Zuma.He the ANC to support the commission suddenly when it is his time to go and appear before the very commission he defies the same commission. Zuma is a crook.

Electoral Court judgments are not appealable, why is the IEC being allowed to appeal through back door? They are not seeking clarification, they are appealing ruling of the EC. Providing the final clarification is the job of the CC and what they should be doing everyday through normal channels. That is, via cases working their way through the courts system. If this were not an appeal against the EC the case would have taken its proper place in the queue of cases requiring finality from the Apex court.

We can't allow Zuma to keep rubbishing the laws of this country. The justices must not recuse themselves and judge against him. He will then learn that he is just another individual, he is not important. We need to create anti-Zuma laws in this country to prevent this habit from becoming embedded in our system.

It is not that Zuma is intentionally delaying the court process until after elections, he is exercising his constitutional right enshrined in the constitution in terms of section 167(2)...also the question of him having not been allowed to appeal his sentence which is also his fundamental constitutional right because the constitutional court deliberately made itself a court of first and last instance does not fall within the provisions of section 47(1)(e)...whether the judges agree or refuse to recuse themselves whatever ruling they arrive at in this matter that does not favor Zuma in terms of section 47(1)(e) will be unconstitutional...one would be inclined to believe that the Apex court harbored the intention of punishing Zuma and deny him of his right to appeal deliberately by making itself a court of first instance knowing that it is the highest court of the land...
