I've been doing rescue for close on 3 decades now, and one piece of advice I always give the newcomers to rescue when they turn to me is ''No matter what the outcome is, he *WILL* be well. Because, if you simply cannot change how they live, you can change how they die. Either way, the suffering has ended, because you *cared*. I love you and all your team of friends and co-rescuers for what you do Kenan. *THANK YOU* from the bottom of my heart.

@Anne.M.Kenyon
@Anne.M.Kenyon 4 жыл бұрын
@@danwebchange I see why that could be confusing, sorry. It wasn't to 'question' his care, if you read my comment again, I have nothing but praise and admiration for this guy and his team. The part you are referring to relates to how I guide my trainees, or any newcomers to rescue if they feel they have failed because they were unable to save a life. I tell them that they will not be able to save the life of every injured/sick/tortured animal that comes to them. Some will pass naturally, some will need euthanasure, but even under those circumstances, it is still (in my opinion) a good rescue. Because the animal has been saved from a potentially long, painful/torturous death, because the rescuer cared enough to do something. The *cared* was starred in order to emphasise that regardless of the outcome, the caring still made/makes one hell of a difference to the animal. (Sorry about the essay, but hope it makes sense now. )

I was going to guess river otter. Otters are smart animals, probably went for the eyes strategically. Otters are known to kill alligators in their territory, and it would explain why the alligator was not eaten (to big a meal for the otter).

@@wendypeeters3675 Some people don't pay attention. They seem to forget that animals prey on each other. It's not always a sick human being that does these things but they have a Pollyanna/Disney view of reality that blinds them to the fact that animals DO kill each other just like people do other human beings. There's a higher portion of animals who are CANNIBALISTIC than there are human cannibals! There's a portion of people who comment on KZfaq animal videos that are very negative ALL the time towards other human beings. I'd say it's about 20% of posters who are mental. They obviously have not paid attention to Kenan's other videos where Slinky attacked a female monitor lizard who was put into his enclosure for mating. It wasn't an "evil act" -- animals don't understand "good" and "evil" like people do. It's just something that happened. Half these creatures will eat their own young to survive!

I am a member of a gator and crocodile sanctuary! We would have helped him but I fear we would have to put him down due to the pain he has and did go through. The other week we saw a 10 foot gator by the road and we thought he was dead till we got close. Scabing on both eyes and missing all of his feet but he got around well. When we brought him in the scabs were removed and perfect beautiful eyes were there!! Everyone had no hope and when we watched this, we realized how lucky the old chap was. Thank you for what you do!!

It would be hard to feed an animal when his eyes are gone. Gators rely on their vision for eating, so getting it to eat with no eyes would be near impossible and stressful for the animal. Putting it to sleep was the better option, rather than hoping it won't starve.

@Patchwork_Dragon
@Patchwork_Dragon 5 жыл бұрын
@Anon Anon they humanely euthanized the gator. No animal can possibly survive AND have a decent life. You wouldn't want to be stuck in an enclosed space, unable to walk, swim, see, or even hear properly, relying on something else to provide you food and water? The best they could do for the poor thing was put him out of his misery, and that's what they did.

Would you call this gator "evil" if it did the same thing to a different animal? Hunting is nature and it's inherently cruel, but not evil. If it was a human, than yeah it would be classified as evil because it's torture with no intention to eat the animal. If was an animal, it was most likely trying to survive as well by hunting this gator for food, the gator just happened to escape, but with massive damage. It happens all the time in the wild. Calling a natural hunting behavior "evil" is not correct. This thought of "It's killing other animals, therefore it's evil." is what made several predator animals go extinct or nearly extinct, which includes the American Alligator several years ago before they made a comeback. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just thought I'd explain this to you.

With cases like this one where the problems where only caused by other wild animals, what do you think about leaving it to natures cause because you have now effectively removed the animal as a food source from the ecosystem. I would understand if it was caused by humans so humans should step in and help, but my thought is that nature sometimes isn't the nicest and that's the reality so we shouldn't have the right to intervene. +Xander De Breuck I'm a zoologist who has studied this in the past. and yes it may not feel morely right but it is how nature intends and is always an angle which should be looked at as with conservation our ultimate goal is to get to a stage where intervention is no longer required. especially as we don't have the money/resources to be fighting the good as well. No one missed us before and no one will miss us after, just like no one is missing the nonexistent Martians - otherwise we'd have another planet with fragile sentience to worry about. I am someone that doesn't get any sort of emotion due to really bad depression, but when it comes to animals no matter what sort they are, I feel my heart sink and I get a lump of sadness in my throat. I love what you try and do for every animal you come by, you really understand the pain and suffering that animal is in, I can see that you are really attached to all animals. So with this all being said I appreciate everything you do or try and do no matter what it is. And a big thankyou to you for being the animal loving person that you are.

He wasn't left to suffer - that's a successful rescue a lot of the time. I'm sure you already know, but still worth saying that your efforts weren't in vain.

You saved a being from suffering a slow painful death. In my eyes, that is a good ending. Maybe not the best, but certainly not the worst.

I wish there were more people like you. I tried for a week to rescue a goose his big kid bed broke it off so he could not eat or drink he I couldn’t find anybody to help rescue him I’m legally blind so I don’t drive and I could not handle him because of my surgery I had just had. I would not mind over a phone calls I bet you did I pleaded I finally got one person who told me they would help only to that show up the next day he ended up dying slowly over a week of dehydration he got to the point where he couldn’t fly because he couldn’t clean himself anymore and he unfortunately had also flown out of the area where he could be caught so he died a very slow painful death because I couldn’t get anybody to help them second problem was was he would fly back-and-forth to adult location to another location when you got to the point that he couldn’t fly nobody knew where exactly where he was but we knew he was just slowly suffering I just prayed that death would take it quickly .

I want to add that I also called the local fish and wildlife people as well as multiple rescues nobody would help with the scoops which I’m shocked because he should’ve fallen out of the category of fish and wildlife but they refused to do it either

I'm blessed live here in Florida I want to do the same kind of thing that Kenan does. 46 years old but never too late to start. So far I have had the honor of picking up to gopher tortoises off of the road Seven Springs Highway which is a four-lane divided highway in New Port Richey and taking him to the other side where he was pointed. And I did the same thing again on plathe Road which is near a sanctuary area called the James Gray Preserve. In New Port Richey. You always take them and put them in whatever Direction they were going even if you have to cross a four-lane highway to do it because that's the direction they are pointed if you take them back to the shoulder closest to them at the time they'll just try crossing the road again.
