I am sorry that you had to see the Hawk doing that. Sadly that’s one of the downsides of having a yard that attracts birds, since it also attracts predators. We have three Red Tailed Hawks that visit our yard and will even sit on the deck railings. Usually they grab Mournjng Doves since they’re a slower bird and larger than most other visitors. Hawks are beautiful but I never like seeing them grab another bird.

Dave, thank you always for all your support. It was the first time I have seen a hawk up close. I was upset at the time, but it sure was very beautiful. It is very painful and sad to witness the natural order of the weak and strong, but I guess we just have to accept that this is the way things are. It seems very cruel, but we know that the sacrificed sparrow was returned to nature. Still I was glad to hear you say you never like seeing hawks grab other birds.🥲
That was terrible to look at... and I'm sorry you got so scared...but your reflections are spot on once again. At first glance they looked like pigeon's feathers, anyway I'm glad it didn't happen to Nico or Kappa. Sometimes we dream about being free like birds flying in the sky, forgetting how fragile they are... in fact birds are on a constant guard moving very carefully and watching in every direction. Nothing to be jealous of. Their cuteness often distracts us from how nature works. Rest assured however that our little superheroes are swift as ninjas and they will escape any predators 🥰💪 Thanks for this report.

Thank you for your comment ☺. This tragedy was painful and sad, but I felt the preciousness and importance of their existence more than ever. I feel sorry for the sparrow that became prey, but at least I can accept that it didn't die in a man-made disaster and that it became food for the next life.🥲
MUCHA VECES LA VIDA ES TAN DIFÍCIL PARA MUCHAS AVES Y ANIMALITOS😢 🥺😣🌳🍃🌳🍃INFINITAS GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR...SALUDOS CORDIALES YBUENA SALUD PARA TODOS💪🙏🙋♀️🐾

I'm happy that our special birds aren't hurt and sad for the little Chun that lost his life.🕯️ Thank you for the TS I don't like to hear the scream of dead 😥 At least it was no cat because the bird of prey need to eat, too. 🙏📿

Son Chan, Thank you always for your comments and support!🙇♀️ Chun was obviously in heaven when I found him. I tell myself that he had fulfilled his life span on this earth and had fulfilled his role as food for the next life.🥲
I can imagine your emotions as the birds in your garden are known to you ..True the sparrow hawk has to eat .Usually birds are quick to spot and 'freeze" until danger is past . ..The biggest enemy here = traffic which hit birds the fly over the roads .They do more damage than birds of prey ....Please don't blame yourself , it is as it is . ,Greetings & understanding ♡

Thank you Helena. That was very shocking, but I am glad that the sparrow's life was not wasted in a man-made disaster. I believe that being prey is a very important role in nature. 🥲.

We often forget that the life of these birds, and of all wild animals, are often brutal, and in some cases (as it is with pigeons for example) humans are not making it any simpler. I thank you for being a friend to birds, and for seeing in every bird an individual - as I usually say, every bird is a person 😀. Love to you and to all the birds

Thank you very much for your words, Stefania. They all have their own characters and I deal with each of them differently. So I was very happy to read your comment and know that we share the same thoughts and feelings.🥰
All it takes is one act of nature to turn a bird-watcher into a nihilist. If this is your perspective on war, you just added to this planet's darkness.

It was sad to watch the sparrow fall prey to the hawk this time, but I was grateful to be reminded that this is the natural order of things and that we humans benefit from this cycle of natural environment.🥲

I am sorry that this was your first experience. I used to try to chase the hawks away but when I see how man takes away the places where they hunt, I leave them alone. Some go after doves, others the finches. I can accept that more then I can cats who hunt and kill for no reason other then that they are predators. That angers me. Birds and other prey animals must be vigilant. Those that are not, fall. It is sad to us but it is their life. It is nature’s balance. Only man tries messes up the balance directly and indirectly. Hugs to you. I am happy that your favorites were not prey this time.

Although I understood that this was the natural order of things, I was disturbed to actually witness it😢. But I am sure that all birds are trying their best to survive, and there are no bad ones out there. And the little birds that are preyed upon become sustenance and lead to new life. I am glad that it didn't become a wasted life, as you say, attacked by a domesticated animal that is out of the food chain. Thank you so much always for your comment and support🙇♀️
Yeah--such is the world of the wild. But for all I know, Kappa, Nico, Chuntaro and the sparrows, and even Isomaru, are on heightened alert, as, I'm afraid, that sparrowhawk could be just lurking somewhere.

I've been letting my dog guard the yard for the last week. The dog won't stay out there all the time, but I am hoping that if the hawk sees the dog coming and going, it might stop coming.🤞

@@Sekisuke : Also, to be honest, first glance, I thought it was Isomaru, judging from the color of the feathers. Thank heavens it's not him.
@Sekisuke4 ай бұрын
