Yeah I mean they're all sexist and horrible, but the ones where there were only daughters were kind of the lesser of two evils for me. The ones where there were daughters and sons, and the son was exempted from having his mouth taped, upset me so much because of just the thought of what that teaches a little boy about how it's acceptable to treat his mother and sisters (and how to see women in general!). It's just horrible. And, as someone who has a very good relationship with her father, I can't imagine how hurtful that would be for a daughter!

Sadly tho it doesn't, just like most beans don't make you grow titties. I went to see The Color Purple in NYC back in 2016. I had read the book for school and didn't know what to expect going into the theatre, but it was incredible. I'm not black, but I am a lesbian who grew up Catholic, so there was still a lot to relate to. And Celie's whole story, even the parts I couldn't relate to, were beautiful and inspirational. The literal color, purple, does not represent royalty in the story lmao. One of my favorite quotes from the book explains it well: "I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it." Purple is a color that isn't seen a lot in nature, but the thesis of this quote is that God made that color so that we as humans could have something so beautiful. I'm really excited for the movie! I hope they do it justice.

I was just thinking, I've only heard of the color purple in reference to the gay storyline? I've never read it, so just going off the context of your comment. @@katc2040 because those are both vital aspects of the main character's storyline? idk, from what I see, people tend to talk about both aspects an equal amount. I don't think it's fair to the book to call it the "actual" main context, when Celie's life cannot be neatly separated like that. she's a wonderfully nuanced character. anyway the most talked about aspect, from my perspective outside the US, tends to be how often the book is banned. worth a read regardless--it's a great book and a historic film.

As to why it's called "The Color Purple", I just finished re-reading it and it mentions it once in the book, but in the forward I read the author elaborates: purple, the color, is meant to represent god. Both are found everywhere in nature if you look hard enough, but every time you find it, it manages to be an unexpected surprise.

I mean we're animals and therefore will be more susceptible to animal hormones-- not to mention the animals we consume are pumped with copius amount of hormones. It's always funny how the people who are so against soy and subsequently plant estrogen always harp on about eating meat and eggs and infamous the carnivore diet. All and all though I don't think either of these variables-- plant and animal estrogen levels in food-- contain enough hormones to even do anything-- as you have already mentioned 😮‍💨

@@sondpnichqfvd When I was a kid my brother and I fought a lot. We're only two years apart in age, so...shocker, right? Well my mom would tell me "if you aren't nicer to your brother, he's going to hate you when you're are grown up!" Internalized that and carried it around with me for so long without even realizing it! Finally, when I was 33, in a conversation about this feeling of guilt, and deserving it, I had around being bullied as a child, my therapist asked me if I can think of anyone I did something to that might have warranted how I was treated, ie: was I a bully to anyone first? My brother was the only person I thought of, so I called him up that night and apologized for how I treated him when we were kids. He said he had no idea what I was talking about! So I named a few examples of like pranks and stuff I played on him, and he seemed baffled as he asked "You think I'm still mad about that now???" I don't even think he was putting up a front, because from what he said he was of the opinion that we had a totally normal childhood relationship as siblings and events like the ones I named were things that he barely even remembered. Well that conversation was the topic of my next few therapy sessions, which led me to figuring out that my main memory from those events wasn't my brother's reaction but rather my mom's and her telling me that he'd hate me when we were grown up. Well, once we were grown up, I fully expected that to be true and it turned out it wasn't! Be careful what you say to your kids. It might seem like they don't listen, but they do hear what you say!

I’m a family photographer and every year around Christmas I get people asking if they can do weird shit like that. I always say no I’m not comfortable with that but some people can be really pushy, you never know it could be the families idea, the photographer could have not known prior to them getting there and saying no in person is a lot harder than through email communication while booking. It’s tough but definitely putting your watermark on it and posting it is giving it your stamp of approval, really embarrassing that anyone things it’s okay.

As someone who was raised in a very insular Christian environment I head the phrase “peace on earth, goodwill to men” a lot related to Christmas and it’s in at least a couple Christmas songs/hymns. In the context it was said as the thing Jesus brought or what he was sent to earth to achieve. “Peace on earth” in that culture is heavily associated with Christmas as like, god’s gift or his gift through Jesus to humanity. So I can see how the phrase was maybe brought up in a brainstorming for a Christmas photo shoot and then the misogyny just took over and now it’s like a viral Christmas photo trend for people with no sense of self awareness.

That last clip...I can't believe that he put #npc in the tags as though the _other_ guy were the one exhibiting the npc behavior. As though he weren't just reiterating a question when faced with an answer he wasn't expecting. Isn't giving an unexpected answer to a A or B question the _opposite_ of npc behavior? Do these people even know what an npc is??? Its not someone who gives a wrong answer or someone who disagrees with you. An npc in a video game couldn't give a 'both' option unless its a pre-prepared answer. To be clear: people in real life are not npcs. Calling people npcs is just a tactic to dehumanize political opponents, that's it. Presumably so that when the genocide and work camps come they can assure themselves that they aren't actually committing atrocities because you can kill Nazeem as many times as you want and there's nothing wrong with it.

Once in college, I was sitting at a restaurant booth with three other people. Me and the guy across from me were having a conversation about martial arts. Nothing wild, just comparing our experiences and chatting it over. And the other two people at the table just seemed really bemused. One of them said we were acting like NPCs, and just... how? Like, it's become such a desensitized phrase that it's totally meaningless. People think that just... responding to things normally, and having a casual conversation is NPC behavior. It's wild

Its like they're almost sentient, capable of speech and stuff but they are not capable of learning or knowing anything that they were not programmed for. Dunno how else to explain it but the interviewer is a perfect example of a non sentient human body. Like a homunculus or something. Or like a phone that doesn't have service. Idk

6:04 honestly part of The Incredibles is learning humility. When Bob saves the jumper, he fucks up his neck. When they have to live in secret, Bob can't use his strength to solve insurance problems - he has to learn every loophole in the system just to make sure people can survive, which is totally based and probably the best thing about Bob in the movie for me. So we have Dash, and Bob. And we have their foils, Violet and Frozone. Dash wants to use his whole power, Violet wants caution and is afraid to fail. Dash's recklessness nearly gets them killed a few times, Violet needs to overcome her fear of failure to save Dash, Dash learns he should cut back a bit. Ok I lied, there's a foil for Bob and Dash at the same time. It's Buddy. Buddy is permanently 12, he thinks like people do at 12, hence "When everyone's super, no one will be." But that's not exactly true, is it? Yes we define super as greater than the norm, the average, but this isn't about being born with it, it's about jet boots and ZPE gauntlets. Not everyone can equip those. And the people who can't will need a lot of help. Already the logic is breaking down. As for Bob and Frozone, Bob is too eager to rush back to being a hero, like the old days. He almost gets Frozone killed. He falls for Buddy's trap. He's not strong enough alone because this challenge needs more than one Incredible. Frozone is careful and stays on the sidelines. Which means he's not there for Mr. Incredible but that's okay in the end (the robot was put in a volcano to murder Frozone specifically). Being isolated or isolating yourself from the other people who could help you when something bigger than you comes along is bad whether you're reckless or too isolated. I could go on but I'm passing out.

I think it was probably duct tape or some kind of painters tape (i know it comes in bright green as well but this looks overly saturated) - it even kinda looks like a small mouth mask. Which makes me think they saw the photo and said "hmm this doesn't look very festive, it looks a little too realistic" and solved it with some bright festive green masking... instead of scrapping the entire idea and reevaluating some life choices.
