Quick tip that changed my mobile hunting life forever: When you're attaching a strap to a stick, always always always put the loop with no buckle on first, and start the strap significantly shorter than you will need it to be to get around the tree. Hold the buckle in your hand as you pass it around the tree, and let out just enough slack in the strap to barely hook it onto the button, then cinch it tight. Then you never have to fuss with the strap dropping as you try to tighten the strap, and the buckle can never contact the metal stick.

Good video. I have used my tether as a second lineman’s rope to go around branches so you’re always connected.

Just gonna offer some recommendations for safety and information purposes.. as someone above mentioned, never unhook your lineman’s belt. When you get to a branch, use your tether to get around the branch then either at the next branch or at the top of your climb, reattach your original lineman belt. 2nd suggestion... please don’t step off of your stick and onto your platform with just your lineman’s belt. At the top of your top step, go ahead and set you tether, and hook into your bridge before you make the transition to your platform. Then, once your into your platform with your tether hooked into your bridge, at that time, disconnect your LB. Just looking out for you and new guys getting into it. Thanks for the video bud.

Awesome video, i’ve been wanting to get into saddle hunting lately. As i primarily hunt the mountains of Northeast PA, i prefer to pack lightly and saddle hunting would give me the versatility i need for tree selection. Keep up the good work!

Being from Marshall count in West "By God" Virginia and not being a fan of hang on or climbing stands, I have been wanting to get a tree saddle and try it out. I wish there was a rental program or somewhere close to me to try it out and learn before making the investment in a Tethrd or even their competitor in AeroHunter. Since I mostly hunt the property around me I am not going to set up permanent stands even though I do like ladder stands especially double mans. So a tree saddle system and either ground blinds (mostly natural) are what I have to go with. I want to hunt more public land in WV and some places are really step so that would give me a nice vantage point. Would be cool to arrow a deer or a black bear or a turkey during fall season while in a saddle. Some people will actually wear their saddle into their stand since it is so light, just to save a step. Thanks for sharing.

In not currently a saddle hunter I’m gathering info before I make my purchase, but I am a power lineman (10yrs) when u clip your lineman rope in make sure your clip is facing out this will prevent your body opening the gate and “possibly” un clipping you wich could result in falling off the platform.not sure if that was stated in above comments or if it was just by mistake.but in the trade it has happened allot.stay safe brotha great video.thank you for taking the time to explain your technique. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Great video! As far as the safety side of it, not so much… I carry a second lineman’s belt that stays attached to my harness when I’m climbing up to my hang on platform stand as it is always smarter to stay attached to the tree when going around branches, you just never ever know what can happen and in a split second, you’re either laying at the base of the tree with a broken back or neck and paralyzed for the rest of your life and now Hunting is over for you forever, or even worse, dead… If I’m using my saddle, I attach my Tether before disconnecting my lineman’s belt, it literally only takes an extra 5 seconds! Also. If your lineman’s belt is ever below your waist and a strap breaks, climbing stick fails, or you just slip, there’s a very good chance that you are going straight to the ground like a bowling ball rolling straight down the tree because your lineman’s belt can’t catch and is just falling with you. If you’re lucky and don’t fall all the way down, I can say for a fact and speaking from a bad experience you will 100% hurt yourself terribly and enough to not want to be there anymore as you’ve just fallen atleast 6 feet and your entire body jarred just like a head on collision in a car crash and look down due to unbearable pain coming from the side of your calf where a climbing stick ripped you open 2” wide, 8” long, and an 1” deep while about to pass out from watching what looks like pints of blood poor down the tree and dripping so much at the base of the tree that it sounds like it’s raining in the woods… I’ll spend the extra 5 seconds attaching my Tether or my other lineman’s belt and keep it at or above my waist at all times. Thanks!

Glad to see more people getting into saddles. My only suggestion would be to ditch the cam buckle straps and go to a rope mod, versa strap, dynema daisy chain or something like that. Way faster and quieter. Good luck

@@TheUntamedHunt tethrd just came out with some new dyneema ones i have my eye on. I currently run an amsteel rope mod and its fine but i like the peace of mind of the daisy chain style bc i know it wont loosen up. I hunt from a mini platform on my top stick so it is a worry of mine after hours of shifting around on it.

Never tried this, but looks like a lot of work. I can be up in a tree in less than 5 minutes with a climber. What’s the advantage of this?
@pkoutdoors0692
@pkoutdoors0692 3 жыл бұрын
I use a climber a lot as well. I got a lone wolf hang on and sticks for Christmas last year and I think for me the most advantage of sticks (I have never used a saddle) is the ability to just leave it there if I know I want to come back to it soon. Also for me to get into trees with more cover. It takes a little more time to get up and it definitely has its uses. I still have used my climber more than the stick this year
@williamjenkins8566

Lighter. I have always used a climber. I when to saddle and use a lone wolf hand climber seat and its lighter than any climber on the market

You would be surprised what you can do with your "eyes closed". I'm legally blind and I don't use a flashlight very often. No cure for my eye sight and I love hunting. Not saying I would do THIS without a light though lol. I'd have to use this a lot and have some sort of routine to be comfortable to do it without a light

The odds of finding a straight, branchless tree in the right spot are extremely slim.. and that's why I switched to the saddle. Did 4 frustrating years of climbers, probably ain't going back. If your issue is timing, just have your mom wake you up a little bit earlier, that's what I do.
